ESO/BDO Combat

Steam offered BDO (Black Desert Online) for $5 this weekend if you happened to catch it. Something I was interested in playing a year ago and forgot about, I spent hours creating my characters and damn, what an in depth character creation tool. There's way too much text pop up going on however. But combat, after leveling up several different classes to get a feel for combat, without guides or the tutorials, I have to say that ESO feels like a turn-based game in comparison to BDO's Marvel vs Capcom 2 style.

The ability to combine keys for alternate skills, literally saves an entire action bar and one can stack potions or other buff skills entirely :) ESO NEEDS this badly. Having to swap weapons to buff is a waste of time and often fails due to high latency. Will probably never happen here but at least I know where I can find a break when I'm burned out from the Dolmen grind.

BDO is also heavy P2W ... where ESO is not.

BDO turned heavy p2w while they said American servers wouldn't, also you had to be playing every day since the start if you wanted a catch up. BDO is also automative pvp at level 50 now.

Sounds awful. Too many "RPGs" have been going the twitch/action route the last few years. "Even more action-y" or "like a fighting game".... what a turn-off.

Thanks for that, though - I'd been tempted to try BDO just for the character creator. Now I know not to bother. ;)

(Yes, I'm a big fan of turn-based JRPGs, and isometric games like Wasteland or Divinity 2)

I haven't even been offered to purchase anything yet from the store. In fact I don't even see it highlighted when entering the game world, which I know most online games do these days( Crown store pimpin daily). I'm sure it will rear it's ugly P2W head at some point, as with Final Fantasy, ArcheAge and many others I've discovered.

The "at some point" already occurred nine months ago ...

To be honest, I haven't tried BDO.

But, I wanted to head off any sort of self-efficating promo of the game ... when the actual cost is much more than $5.

Huh, that's odd. Usually, being able to buy "cash shop" items with in-game currency is considered to be a remedy for p2w, since the stuff is no longer restricted just to folks who paid real $. (Of course, if the economy goes nuts and only a handful of folks have enough currency to buy things, it doesn't really change much.)

Anyone thinking they will be playing BDO for 5 Euro/Dollar have no idea what they are getting themselves into. This is a Korean MMO and it got the monetization thats typical for that sort of disease.

It's a Korean MMO. If you've never played a Korean MMO consider yourself lucky. They're all the same in the end. P2w endless grind, zero originality, just second hand Korean patches poorly coded and slapped on to the game.

BDO graphics and combat are amazing but everything else is horrible.

ESO does not need to be more like BDO.

    Not even a little bit.

Played it, loved it, then left it.

You literally have to dedicate your entire life to that game if you want to be competitive on any level.

And yes, as others have said. 100% p2w game.

Not only P2W (selling insta-rez tokens for cash to avoid losing progress, with cheesy insta-gib bullet sponge bosses, per-character rather than account wide $50 costumes that buff stats, you name it) but they are also a FORCED PVP griefer paradise.

So not only can you pay for an advantage but other players just trying to quest or craft or fish have no choice but to be constantly killed by OP credit card heroes looking to flex that epeen. I guess they like that sort of farce in Korea?

I would rather play bobbing for razor blades in a barrel of broken glass then play the travesty that is BDO. Too bad because the graphics are pretty.

and IBC. Clearly no game is going to permit a thread in their forums that advertises a different game. Yea.
