Thanks to the crafting bag, I don't need to sell any materials if I don't want to. They can pile up forever.

It's wise to check the current prices at guild traders for anything you wish to sell.

Everytime i think i've seen everything on this forum it always surprises me.

Actually this scheme is very much akin to insider trading, which in many countries is an illegal activity, so no, not really basic economy. Let me quote: "A person who becomes aware of non-public information and trades on that basis may be guilty." This is exactly what's going on here, trading on the basis of non-public information. I'm simply making the information more public with this.

Crafting is non-public information? Everything is public whether people choose to do research is up to them. Its their own fault.

Worse, if you have MM, go to the furniture store and you see that the MM price for their products is higher than the npc sale price.
Scamming is fooling someone like swapping an sharp necropotente staff for trash then the other guy put down 300k.

On the other hand telling people not to sell but to make poisons and sell is honorable.
It will also lower the price on poison.

people buy morrowind motifs for 100k then we all know the price will drop hard.
But yes anybody with 100k to spend on an motif know a bit on how economic in ESO work.

Crafting stations are easily accessible to everyone. NPC vendors are easily accessible to everyone. There are no insider information involved. Just because some people never bothered to look up certain information, for one reason or another, doesn't mean these information aren't public.

By all means, tell newbies what's going on so they can make a more informed decision, but don't accuse people of scamming.

Guess I'd better convert my 40k worth of alkahest into who-knows-how-much worth in poisons with trash ingredients before the price gets "fixed" in a future patch.

I used to make a lot of money in Star Trek Online, buying up items listed for less than half of their listed EC value in the Auction House, then running over and vendoring them.

    It's goofy, but legit.

You're getting stuff for less than its true value. That said, "scamming," is a pretty strong word for this. I mean, if I see someone asking way too little in zone for something, I'll sometimes, "helpfully," link my MM data into zone. But, ultimately, people are getting paid what they agreed to. They could be getting more, but that's ultimately their decision to make.

I mean, I applaud the existence of this thread (some), because it's better if they're making an informed choice, but still.

It's actually good for the market. It's removing many items from the economy without producing potions/poisons to be sold on the market. By selling to NPCs they are creating both a demand on ingredients and not flooding the market with products. Those that sell potions/poisons are actually getting a higher value for their goods thanks to these NPC using individuals.

Stop using the term insider trading in this context, because you clearly have misunderstood what it is. The mechanic of vendoring is surely public for anyone who cares to look for it, therefore it is not inside information.
Public information is just public, you still have to look for it, it won't be handed to you on a platter.

    To give an example:
If ZOS told a player that they would remove alchemy from the game and said player used the information to hoard potions and sell them for extreme cost to players apfter the fact, that would be abuse of insider information. No other player could know this no matter where they looked.

    Can you see the difference?

Ultimately Zeni should fix this by making crafted poisons and potions have a 0 cost or 1 cost per item instead of the current value. After all, people craft poisons and potions to use them not to sell them th vendors.

i was about to say "will the war on crafting ever stop?!" and then i noticed the poster.

Alright, I'm not one to rat about other people, but seeing as the tendency just keeps on going, I think it's about time that someone makes a PSA info post about this, so people can make an informed decision.

For a while there have been buyers in zone chat that will buy all your seemingly trash ingredients such as fleshfly larvae, spider eggs and cheap mushrooms, and they will usually offer the MM price or around there, which is rather low for these ingredients.

Seemingly a good trade for you, right? Thing is, you're basically selling away free profit for these people, as they will use the many thousands of ingredients to craft large quantities of poisons that they sell off for good profit to NPC vendors.

I believe that people have the right to make an informed choice and decision, and I think this is falling in the category of a dupe or scam, as essentially one party is privy to information that the other party has not got, meaning that what seems to one party to be a nice and good deal, is in fact a scam where you're being duped into selling away your profit. If you knew about it, you could just have used those ingredients yourself to make profit by selling the poisons to the NPC vendors.

Ultimately Zeni should fix this by making crafted poisons and potions have a 0 cost or 1 cost per item instead of the current value. After all, people craft poisons and potions to use them not to sell them th vendors.

Anyway, feel free to sell off your larvae and eggs and whatever to these people, at least now you have the relevent information to make a deliberate choice about People should the value of what they are buying or selling thats not a scam

Player paying the going rate for something is not a scam. They are being straight up legit and your explanation of their MO completely supports them.

It is realistic that the base ingredients cost less than the crafted items. Some do not want to be bothered with crafting and regardless, it takes time.

To call them scammers is very off base.

They're not scammers. Unethical maybe. But they aren't doing anything wrong.

I've toyed with the idea of doing it. People make a fortune off of it, but you feel *** inside.

And you don't offer MM, but 50% under (or more). You're trying to prey on players who don't use MM.

Wow I had no idea. Thank you for this information. I absolutely do think this is along the lines of scamming, if not scamming, definitely taking advantage of someone way less informed than others. Been playing the game for almost a year now and there are still things I really don't understand. I really appreciate the information.

Also, for those attacking this person, seriously, please stop. This information is useful and not everyone is at the information level that you are. It's not my fault I'm ignorant when I didn't even know to ask about this. I seriously don't understand the hatefulness of this community sometimes...
