They've gotten rid of a minor cc that has always been broken and replaced it with an increase its DoT, that sounds like a buff to me.

    Or am i missing something?

    Blazing SHIELD.

And in regards to Blazing Spear, the 30% is good, but consider the base damage. For most it is maybe 1000 (in PvE) so this amounts to 300 damage per second extra damage (150/s in PvP)

A % increase of a small number is a small increase.

True, but an increase is still an increase, especially if that increase is because they got rid of an effect that wasn't working properly in the first place :)

We're talking about Blazing Shield, not Blazing Spear (Blazing Spear, or more exactly Luminous Shard, which you're talking about, share now a cooldown with orbs and return less ressources)

Ah, my bad, i always thought BlazPlar pertained to the use of blazing spear in a build, now i understand.

Which goes to show just how little the skill is used, and definitely even less now.

What was needed was a stun, or disorient with a damage cap (similar to DK Fossilize). What we got was a very small damage increase.

How is this not considered a good change? Yes you can counter a blazplar by not attacking it, but what if you get two of them in a keep on a flag? Situations like this is whey they nerfed it. Also have you ran into an emp blazplar... Spamming one skill with 80k health should not be a viable build.

Having one global cool down that is both your shield and spam able is a bit over the top.

Do we balance around having two of something in the same place at the same time? The repentance nerf would suggest that no they don't give a flying f' if two of something is in the same place at the same time.

ok fine, put one of them on a flag with his group what am I supposed to do? the counter is to not go in and attack. So I let them take the keep?

It was a pointless troll build that was only viable when standing in a keep. Good riddance.

@Hoked_on_ponix from reading most of the comments on this thread, most people, templars included, are not sympathetic to blazing shield. The problem is that ZoS snuck another nerf to templars. Honestly I was blind sided by this because as many say, blazing shield is a one trick pony. Its just irritating that we can provide encyclopedias worth of feedback and it gets ignored for token/useless buffs and nerfs no one is asking for.

Blazplar never dominated anything. Anyone that stayed five meters got what they deserved.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because an 8 k shield is f ing useless. Died because of baddies on the forum. Too much qq too little pew pew. 16 AD 2 DC. 0 EP cause they bad, CP 2300 plus 18 level 50 toons. NA, PC, Grey Host#SORCLIVESMATTER actually they don’t or they wouldn’t keep getting nerfed constantly.

@Dread_Knight_N7 fair enough. I would like to see them more viable outside of a heal bot role. I think a lot of the problems are with certain HA sets and they should have let your class defining skill alone. That being said blazing shields skill needed a rework. Stuff that scales with health is often problematic in that it is either not effective at all or it becomes a troll skill.

It is also mildly amusing that they waited for the live patch to drop it. Blazeplars been around awhile, but it just became a problem so suddenly they didn't have time to get it on the pts?

I know it is really open beta now, even though they call it early access. It just feels like they were just trying to sneak in one more nerf to Templars so we wouldn't have to talk about it on the pts.

Good, it's the least skilled and annoying build in the game. What's the point being in PvP with a build where people just walk passed you?

Yeah, it would be fantastic if our class shield was more useful to more of us, actually. (And that is my cynical guess about why this didn't come up earlier - there would have been suggestions for that very thing from some people who know templar backward and forward. It's a pity ZOS doesn't value that input more, they seem like a great resource to me.)

Classes that don't need any class ability nerfs: Nightblades, Dragonknights, Sorcs, Templars, Wardens.

The damage is pretty low and has been, but at about 26k health, Blazing Shield still allows you to solo a lot of PvE content, so I've always been pretty happy with the skill. I don't think it should be a staple damage dealing skill. But that's just my two cents.
    PS4 / EU

    Sadryn Hlervu: Warden tank
Llaren Uvayn: Templar healer and faithful Tribunal servant

That change is very unfortunate. Non-Troll-players have been wanting ZOS to make that ability viable for builds outside of trollplar. Instead, they basically made is even less viable for a non-trollplar. They would've at least buffed the other morph, which is probably one of the least used Templar abilities in the game.

I am okay with reducing the health stacking synergy, but they should have done something else to make it more effective for non-health builds.

My NB got killed by a Blazplar ... once. My DK encountered some in duels and always wore them down. They didn't heal well. I always thought it was a useless build, since I would simply outheal their damage. Mystified by the nerf.

@Llaren_Uvayn fun fact; Radiant Shield (the other morph) does more damage and cost less than blazing shield until the user has 35-40k hp

Leave it to zos to make a pvp skill that gets halved in pvp. The healing/bubble reduction in pvp is bs.

Actually, they sneaked 2 templar nerfs in this new patch notes:
    - Blazing shield (lol)
    - Nova - now applies Major Maim, when you could stack the 30% damage reduction with Major Maim before.

This Major/Minor system is getting old, too much homogenization is too much.

@Arciris I dont think anything in the game currently gives major maim. Dk standards give a generic 30% reduction only to the caster, but that's the closest I think

Game is still loading for me so I cannot confirm but I think I saw that Major Maim somewhere... probably in the Warden skill line.

@Dread_Knight_N7 Found the other source of Major Maim:

Frozen Device – Summon an ancient portal up to 28 meters away with a 5-meter radius.. Enemies that run over it are teleported to you and rooted for 3 seconds. You can only have 1 portal at a time and it is removed upon activation. Teleported enemy is afflicted with Major Maim, reducing their damage by 30% for 4 seconds.

Warden ability of course (not even ultimate) of the Winter Embrace tree.

So Templars see their best ultimate nerfed in favor of a Warden ability. Not cool.

This was a warrantless nerf, no one asked for. No one was complaining about blazing shield. I wouldn't be so upset had they reduced cost proportionally to the nerf. This smells of a Dev getting pooped on during PTS. I have lost track of how many templar nerfs over the past few patches.

Actually, I ran I to an emp blazing shield build once. Knocked him off his horse and he tried to mist form away before finally realizing he had to fight me and dying shortly after. Any EMP that isn't running full damage is a bad emp, period.

There are quite a few PVE tanks that use this...since there is always a shortage on tanks, and no one likes sitting around an hour trying to find one, Blazing Shield helped some builds switch to tank when needed.
