I use DF every day and rarely is it a problem.

Sorry, but your experiences are not the norm, though you want us to believe this is what a player consistently faces.

    Exaggerate much??

It's been my experience and that of most everyone I know, so...I don't think its much of an exaggeration.

Yeah, all well-known and old problems
Roll tank and healer - nice, but how it helps my DDs to do pledges or level Undaunted? Nohow.

To not face with "lvl 14 noobs" you can Q only for vet dungeons, but guess what? This doesn't protect you from facing with CP1-159 scums, that is: obviously weak, has no idea of their own class and you can't trade a gear with them. Mostly happens with me on DLC dungeons.
Give me my button "Do not allow groupmates lower than CP160"!

Also, if I'm on tank or healer and I see a bad DD (most of the times this is stamina suckers) I'm starting votekick and promoting in the groupchat "you would kick him or I would leave" - works everytime :D
No regrets for this I have: I'm not a free carrier, or teacher, or trainer. I have my time and my time is pretty expensive for me.
I have no feelengs like "That's a battle we had! Such a glorious victory! GZ everyone!" - I've done all 4-man pledges on HM long time ago and this is only routine for me, and every routine must be done ASAP.
All low-lvl noobs must train on normal, until they would able do it with closed eyes. Only after that they can try vet.

Elitism? Not. Yesterday I has a "wonderful" experience of Direfrost keep with:
Tank of 910cp (NINE ONE ZERO, gentlemen!) that has no idea of how to be a tank (I've reported him for account buy after)
    Stam DD of ~90cp
    MagDD of ~300cp
That both DD were truly bad: they weren't able to even scratch a last boss - she outdrained all their damage even with fast breakfrees from her drain! ><

Before that I was in the party of 3 DDs (one of them picked a tank role, but avoided monsters as much as possible all the way. "I'm Spanish" - the only thing he said, like it must be important for anyone). Thank God this was CoH1 and I has Ice staff, so I was a healer and an actual tank for last bosses. Staying at place. Not trying to beat Usain Bolt's World records.
Did you know, that the best way to show yourself as a crazy noob is running away from monsters like your azz is burning? Or just moving left-right and forward-back with no reasons? Or trying to always run away to the opposite room corner? Or staying behind healer? Now you know that.

This is the only mmo that I have played that can't pull off a consistently working group finder. And before I get the, but this is the only game with a megaserver, excuse. No it s not.

I'm just hoping they take the time to try to get it right before morrowind. Since I'm assuming it is what they will be using for the battlegrounds.

Finding replacements in dungeons tend to work, downside is that if you do an pledge and end up just helping on last boss you will not get it, if queued solo you should get pledge even if on last boss,
..but if you help to do the last boss on HM, you can do the other bosses for the pledge on 'normal' and you'll get 2 keys! ;)

    OH NOES!

    actually who cares

Actually I'm just voicing my opinion that getting keys isn't game breaking. If it were up to me I would let people who got DF grouped on the last boss get their key without having to complete the rest of the dungeon.

For one you need to level up undauted to get orbs.
Throwing out some orbs and keeping elemental drain up on boss is not very hard.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

ZOS still enjoys the luxury of being the only game of its kind on ps4..

ark survival? sounds like too much grinding..
final fantasy? meh, don't want to subscribe..
skyforge? played for a few hours, but the atmosphere didn't catch me..
neverwinter? meh - feels like having to play with "duplo" after someone took away all your "lego" stuff..

But it's only a matter of time..

But okay, ignore that! You were lucky and the message popped up in a place where you could actually read it, you weren’t at the fridge refilling your water bottle and you pressed the key. Now you are sent to a dungeon with three other people who are level 14, one of which has listed their role as tank/healer/DPS, and none of whom are eating/drinking anything to boost their stats/regen. They cry when they get one-shot despite them having only 13K HP. Also, they spam light attacks with their bow the whole time, while the tank “holds aggro” with Brawler. Meanwhile, how is the CP600+ healer supposed to either 1) Not take a beating because their Radiant Aura aggros the entire dungeon and the only bright idea the level 14 tank has is sometimes weaving an Uppercut in between those Brawlers as a “taunt” or 2) I dunno, I guess, trade equipment with everybody else, provided they were able to complete the dungeon under those dire circumstances—we don’t really have a use for level 14 gear, after, say, level 18 or thereabouts. Grouping people of similar CP level seems like it wouldn’t be that hard of a thing to add to the DF in order to make completing dungeons with strangers a good experience “culturally” (i.e. those who have made it to a certain threshold because they developed similar playing habits and attitudes that carried them there—their culture) and useful as far as the drops are concerned (folks can freely exchange quality goods without having to eye the level requirements).

This is so accurate. I am a high CP magplar with gold gear, and I absolutely HATE it when I am healing Vet mode dungeons and there are a bunch of people in there who have never heard of food or potions, let alone using high DPS abilities. The biggest thing that gets me though is the guy that queues into the instance as "Tank" for the insta-queue who is absolutely not a tank and DOESN'T EVEN PUT A TAUNT ON HIS BAR to even try to look like a tank. So we end up kicking him and are stuck looking for a tank again forever... So I just tank with sweeps because magplars can do it all baby ;)

Shht, don't mention my secret trick to get all my pledges and slayer achievements done on my 4 magicka chars (see signature). If anybody would know that being a healer or a tank just affords a simple gear and skill swap in Dressing Room, I maybe have to wait longer than 10 seconds to queue up for any daylie vet pledge or well farmed instances like CoA1, CoH1 and VoM (I got my Rattlecage gear for 4 chars within 2 weeks in perfect traits and I didn't run them each day).

I agree and I do even play my chars in the hobby role (usually I play them all as DD) as it should be. I always wonder how many healers are out there who think healing is all what they need to do (no shards, no bubbles, no drain) and all the tanks who think meatshield is cool and actually taunting some more adds as just one is for weaklings only (and piling up adds for AoE dps isn't good, everybody should stay somewhere and do single target dps on his own mob and building for ultireg and more Warhorns seems to be not useful...)

You can't imagine how fast and stressless you will melt through a vet dungeon, when all do their job, which means, tanks pile up adds (Swarm Mother, chains) build for ultireg and ressources and throw warhorn after warhorn, DDs do dps, know what AoE dps is and actually get a benefit from warhorn because their numbers are good, healers heal and support (shards, bubbles or drain, warhorn too) and with good DDs and tanks he will end up doing dps 50% of the time.

Many groups I encountered, where someone cleverly claimed "we need no tank" just pushed the responsibility towards the healer who had to correct their bad movement and often such pledge runs end in several wipes. Not all are Flawless Conquerers out there (some maybe think they are) or did Spindleclutch 1 vet hm with 3 Stamina DDs + healer in a PUG and in a no death run, where just watching the fight and the artistic chinese sprinting and acrobatic dodge-rolling-around was pure joy.

I used to be on the LFG is broke train, but honestly besides upping groups to accommodate more DPS, what else can ZOS do? I queue with my healer and tank and instantly get a group invite. DPS queue could be 5-30 minutes. So I quest or do writs while I wait for it. The only thing I really think they need to add is to stop placing low level toons in groups for dungeons like White Gold Tower or Ruins of Mazzatun. Say you are 30 or under, you can only run the first editions of dungeons like Wayrest I, Fungal Grotto I etc.

I read this post and scratch my head. I've queued for dungeons often even though I can form a group from guild without issue.

In the past year I've had like 3 vet dungeons that the GF group couldn't clear. I've never bite kicked anyone unless they we're offline. Haven't found it necessary.

The only time I've mentioned dropping the group was because one player was being an azz. Funny thing is the other two players vote kicked the idiot.

With the QQ about GF groups and my extremely rare issue with it, I question what is really the issue with them.

No complaints from me. I queue for the random daily reward every day as dps and have had very few problems. People have been accommodating despite me being newish and using 2h+bow. (I recently downloaded Combat Metrics and found out I deal like 3-4k dps on bosses only, yikes) I ask for boss mechanics and they explain it, no problem. In return, once I know the dungeon, I explain it to other new players I encounter. The only problem I've run into is the rare occasion that the group finder makes us into a group but doesn't transport us into the dungeon.

As far as the dungeons go, hardly anyone in our guild uses the group finder because of how badly it's broken. It's a piece of trash. And I'm sitting on dozen of keys because no matter how many I turn in I just can't seem to get the piece I want in the trait I'm looking for. The only reason I do the dungeons now is for the fun and helping out fellow guildies. Even then, the dungeons themselves are getting boring and old.

I don't get it. It's not the queue length that's the problem. Which by the way, saturating the queue with tanks and healers just to beat queue will eventually turn dps into what tanks and healers are now in queue. Doesn't matter what role I'm queueing as since I'm going to get booted as soon as I get in there anyway.

Fix it how? Let me go in as a group? Give me the bonus when I'm not the party lead? Stop kicking us everytime we get into the dungeon? Stop giving us all a penalty because the system is broken?

Edit: to throw it out there, my first 2 months of playing I was also the person replying in these threads that it's not broken. I also had no had any issues. But one day they just fell apart for me, and it's been garbage ever since.

OK, I have two Group Finder Stories from this weekend.

Friday, a guild mate was complaining about how much time is was taking to queue for a specific dungeon as a DPS. I piped up and said that would always take forever, so we found a group, ran the dungeon, and he even got his Monster Helm in a good trait. In this case Group Finder would never work, manually is the only way with DPS for a specific dungeon.

I loaded up a new Alt who had not done any dungeons yet and queued for the Random, only I did it as Vet by mistake but did not realize. Well, we get put into White Gold Tower, which also happened to be the Pledge for the day. At the first set of mobs I realize what I had done with my queuing, but I decided to stick it out.

How bad can Pugging vICP be?

Turns out it was not that bad at all, but that is because we all knew the dungeon, or at least people listened to tactical suggestions. We had one group wipe on two of the bosses, but otherwise things went really good.

So, the Group Finder did not do what it could not do as expected and did what it could do very well, .
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Now maybe i have good luck and I'm not just blindly defending something that's broken, but i use the dungeon finder every day for all my pledges and maybe once a week i get the bug where you port in then it kicks you so all i have to do is port back. and even if i get a low skilled group i can usually carry them through it as long as its not a DLC pledge.

Now every bug people complain about i think i have seen but NEVER to the extent i see on the forums. ive never had a problem as a DPS getting a group in more than 10 min. except what patch was that dark brotherhood? but ever since One T that's been fixed. So i guess my real question here is are people exaggerating or am i just lucky?

This is the strange thing to me. I can go weeks with it barely working. Constantly kicking me, Kicking the group, whatever. And then I can go weeks without an issue.

To me the group finder has not be right since thieves guild or dark brotherhood. It has been broken on and off again for so long I don't even remember when it went to hell.

You got further than I did. I stopped when he sat in the queue for 13 hours and figured the rest of the thread made about as much sense. It is easier to form a group outside of GF than to waste time like that. I would guess it was off hours for starters.

Did GF again tonight and had zero issues, as usual. The dungeon went fine. Of course I am not going to queue as a DPS cause logic dictates DPS will wait longer for a queue to pop and it is normal in MMOS with GFs.

Cannot even begin to list the number of times I have ended up in a group that was at the last boss and we cleared it in one shot. Makes you wonder about those who left the group.

Sometimes, we must see how deep the rabbit hole goes during our inquiries. It certainly would have been easier to try to manually create a group per your advice, but such was not my point that day, nor has it been the point of the post. The point is that the DF tool is frequently broken beyond use. You skirt around it in ways I have already discussed in the original post, but our days of working around the broken tool are coming to a close. Of course you are free to queue as whatever you want and have it go fine with zero issues--what about every other player who actually wants to run their DPS through a dungeon? Why can't the tool just work for them?

In the linked picture, I joined the DF queue at 11 AM and stayed in until past midnight--far from the off-hours you mentioned. My goal was to see if I simply needed to wait longer; perhaps I was wrong to abandon my quest of getting a group after only eight hours in the queue and by the time the ninth or tenth hour rolled along, I would have gotten one. But no, that particular day, I went to the max I could reasonably tolerate.

As an aside, the capture was taken in August of 2016. Things have gotten better since then in some respects, but worse in other ways. I can indeed find a group within only a few hours these days, but even that is too long and it involves: Getting booted immediately upon entering the dungeon, people subsequently quitting, reforming manually or suffering an inane 15-minute cool-down timer, getting placed with lowbies who spam execute 24x7 and can't trade loot with you due to the level difference, not getting credited with Undaunted XP and supplies, finding it impossible sometimes for unknown reasons to find a replacement player if a person bails prematurely, etc. etc. etc.

I found through rolling a healer and a tank that my personality is more matched to one of a healer; thanks to the DF working fairly well for those types, I have full sets of the best end-game equipment on those characters and am working on grinding gear for my DPSs (those with DPS personality types won't be quite so lucky). But I wish I could grind out that gear on the DPSs themselves, as it would give me much-needed practice running dungeons as one. This will not be possible until some changes take place.

We feel hopeful that said changes listed in the upcoming patch actually address these woes, but given the dubious track record of patch note fixes versus actual repairs completed that contribute to a stable, working DF tool, we are rightly skeptical.

One of the most crucial features of an MMORPG is the ability to group with other players and do things together. In ESO, one of those things is running amok in dungeons. It’s fun getting four random strangers together and wreaking havoc. Unfortunately, the tool we have to achieve this end, the Dungeon Finder, is hopelessly broken and it’s ruining the game for many.

Broken DF will be my red-text “Goodbye.” from the quest of ESO; you can keep your Prosperous Glacial Staff of Nomeg Haga and 120 GP. The extreme hassle of using it is not worth the rewards anymore. Running dungeons became the one thing left that I liked about this game, but it has gotten so bad that I just can’t take it anymore—there are better games out there, online or otherwise, and the hour has come when we must set aside the fancy costumes and interior decorator compulsions, to effect meaningful change on something that has been broken far too long.

I have been playing Final Fantasy 14 since they revealed the fact they are destroying any remaining fun in this game. I have enjoyed myself so far. And soloing on a tank is not as monotonous as even PRE-morrowind tanky solo is in this game. Just imagine how unfun the game will be for some dps players after morrowind, let alone tanky/heals lessening their numbers further for content rofl.

I'll tell you, in FF 14 I don't take too long on my dps job usually to get into a dungeon and it's cross-server queue in the duty finder which could have it's ups and downs. But I haven't encountered a**hats yet, just a snob or two and rude comment which was far less than I expected and not usually directed toward myself anyways. Most players are silent and focused, or friendly there. The exact opposite of my queue/pug experience in eso after coming back in one tamriel.

If you enjoy dungeons, there are as many in FF14 as in ESO, with as much variety. There are also plenty of trials, and you can run those all of the time. The duty finder lets you pug trails and raids in FF14. I had noticed myself and a second tank would immediately fill up my high level duty finder queues for trial content sometimes while I would wait to see dps or heals show up so while low and mid levels may be slow for dps (usually not longer than about 20 minutes in my experience so far) it should even out for higher level content that has 8 players.

You get a display of the classes you are currently matched with, and your position in the waiting list and the estimated wait times are generally pretty accurate. You can also register for duty finder on one job, and then switch to another or to a crafting class and kill your time until the queue comes up when you simply switch back to the job you registered with and accept the prompt from the queue. The one exception is the leaver penalty is half an hour and you waste a leve if you need to accept in the middle of one. But you can choose to withdraw up to twice per day without penalty, on the third withdrawel (cancellation once you're prompted to accept) is when I think a penalty starts to kick in to discourage holding up the queues for people constantly. In eso when you log an alt you are back in hours long queue again, since eso doesn't have all class/job on the same character and in eso the dungeon finder has been broken since launch in some way, shape or form.

I advise you , and others who feel the way you do to do the free trial of Final Fantasy 14. I have seen a lot of people using the trial lately. Possibly because they are migrating from other games, perhaps eso even if they heard of the monotonous morrowind combat. Also it's nearing the time of year though I guess, where school end and more people are playing games and for longer. But try the free trial out, and it is also on console, on playstation 4. I'm not sure if the trial is available for console but it should be. If you like it, do as I did and purchase Stormblood instead of morrowind.

To be fair, Squenix plans some gameplay changes as well some point after Stormblood but they have a track record of never doing anything even half as stupid and cruel to casuals or even the average pve player as zyngamax has done on pts. And what happens in pts doesn't stay in pts most of the time in this game. I expect the Final Fantasy 14 Stormblood launch to be fairly smooth in comparison to the morrowind launch which will tie people up with new gear and respecs in a game lacking a simple market system that isn't convoluted and bound to exploitation in periods of need like the one morrowind will create. We won't spend our first days or weeks in Stormblood just getting our toons in working condition before beginning to experience the new content, or at least I am confident that we won't. And I believe they will do like they did with Heavensward and release content in pieces initially as well. For an elder scrolls game that obviously won't be the right approach, but it allows people time to progress and catch up in the FF14 structure.

I'm looking forward to the new jobs in Stormblood, especially the Samurai. And also to leveling up the Warrior to have all three tank jobs up to par for their inter-job skills that are important to the role. The duty finder will be ripe for that in the time leading up to Stormblood while people catch up some jobs for it, and for a while after release as they level the new dps jobs as well. I expect as much activity as I have currently experienced and realistically at least a little bit more activity by then.

Got WGT in DF last night. Had a level 16. Was the only one to not die and stopped a wipe...

I think a lot of you are missing the point. If my friend and I queue for the random normal or vet, him tank me heals, we get a group usually without too much trouble BUT once we port in we get ported back out immediately. Then you have to enter manually and since he queued us I DO NOT get the rewards. I would like to group with a friend and get rewards.

OP pretty much outlined all of the bugs (except the first parts of his post about queuing as DD) with the group finder which lead to bad user experience especially for new players. All of those bugs
(being ported back, no bonus reward and xp on completion, extremely long time for searching for replacement, "dungeon grp is ready" message endlessly popping up while already being in dungeon and after its completion, both queue and dequeue button greyed out (relog needed) and some other)
are not uncommon, they happened every single time (except the last two i mentioned) when i queued with one or two friends both for random and specific dungeons. atm it is impossible to play with one or two friends random dungeons for this bonus xp and stuff.
When queuing alone it happened not that often (probably this happens only when you get matched with others that queued as group).

Also remember that a player only can port to the dungeon if he already completed it, since there is no waypoint on the map. New players that get that bug and are ported out of the dungeon cannot port back into it except there is someone other in the group who can.
