I may be wrong but I believe I read somewhere (or maybe heard on ESO Live?) that Morrowind new content will be closed beta but all the base game patch changes are open PTS. So you will be able to test your builds out still based on balance changes. Again, if this is true.

Yessir this is very much true.

    I win this thread then.

That's right, but almost all the relevenat information will around Morrowind. Gear builds, mechanics, tactics, farm spots, all that is from the expansion.

YouTube and forum posts will take care of all of that very very quickly as soon as NDA is lifted. But as far as builds are concerned, if Warden stays behind closed beta wall, anyone playing the other classes will be fine testing all balance changes on open PTS.

I'm assuming that they won't lift the nda until the launch. Hopefuly i'm wrong.

It's amazing how many people are still ignorant to game development cycle.

Alpha/Play testing > Closed beta > Open beta; no one wants all information about their product out too early.

I am fairly certain we will all get a chance to test Morrowind in May before release.

Maybe even any new gear or monster sets added to the game will be part of open PTS. Maybe closed beta is only about the Morrowind zone itself in regards to zone, monster, etc, glitches and bugs.

There isn't always an open beta. In this case I would doubt that we will have one. Unless they find a way to do a beta on console, I doubt they will implement one at all to avoid the inevitable rage that would cause.

In the end, its pure speculation until ZOS says either way.

To those saying there is no competitiveness in this game, I'd have to disagree. The top guilds, while there may be few of us, are all competitive and want to always try to get the best scores we can. If we weren't competitive, we'd be pugging vet trials.

First clears are important to people. It's a race. It's fun to claim "FIRST."

I personally don't have interest in first clears, so for me its a non-issue. But I am very competitive to get the best scores I can possibly get.

Just because scores wipe every patch doesn't mean they don't mean anything. They wipe because the balance of the game changes and you can't really compare the scores on one patch to another when we could be doing more or less damage from patch to patch. For example, from One Tamriel to Homestead patch, players may have gotten slightly better, but the major dps increase we saw was due to balance changes. All across the board our top scores are already higher than the last patch.

I see a lot of entitlement in this thread. Remember beta is to test bugs and and fix them not to form strats and finish content. To those who say that they have done this amount of content and they must be invited, how many times have you gone into PTS and tested content for ZOS? Take your entitlement elsewhere. You are 0.001% of the game's population. Nobody cares.
I play how I want to.

Anything released in Morrowind could be tweaked from beta to release. Also, everything they learn will likely be available on a website within a day of release. It will however reduce the bugs as some will be fixed by release. This isn't being discussed because every mmo I have ever played has done something similar and it really won't be an issue.

Jim, you really think we'll have access to all sets stats, boss mechanics, and grind spots from Zos' articles? Cause we won't have permision from player created content. And even then, you think that could eb remotely to potantially 2 months of betatesting?

You realize this exact kind of thing happened prior to the game's release with people in a closed beta right? And this is a much shorter time frame compared to launch. If the closed beta were to damage the game's competitiveness, it would have done so years ago on a much worse scale.

Eso's original launch had a virtually open beta, where everyone who asked for it could have access. I think we should have a similar beta here, give us at least 2 weeks of open beta and everything should be somewhat ok.

Not entirely true, the open betas were mostly just weekends, and your characters would get wiped after until the last few before launch. This differs from the closed testers with 24 access for months at a time. Source, was in the Psijic Order.

Also, the few competitive guilds we had burned out pretty fast. Lot of the strongest players the game has seen weren't in the closed beta.

As far as I can tell it seams to be a bit of an industry standard to have some kind of closed beta or pay for early access via season pass, like bf1

So you're always going to get a % of the players who know the maps, mat runs, dungeons, etc no matter what

I just take it as a given and don't sweat about it

This was an unofficial statement from a member of the champions guild and understand that my comments may not be in conjunction of the official stance of said guild

    ESO has competitiveness! :joy::joy::joy:

PvP FotM builds will be out in a month of launch, doesn't matter who tests, everyone will just use Sypher and Fengrush's latest builds because streamer awe.

PvE guilds will be grinding new sets for six months any way.

Not so much that, but I know and play with a metric crap ton of people in game... I mean more than I knew in WoW (which means I play this game way too much lol) and I don't think a single one of them gives a flying monkeyfart about competition and many of them laugh at the few people who keep trying to make it a big competitive deal.

The game has mostly TES players, not WoW players....I mean what they are throwing one raid (ZoS doesn't want to even call them Raids) as a bone in the Ex pack? And the PvP scene is getting more casual by the week.

I just don't think the competitiveness has ever been there so why worry about it going away?

I personally don't care either way. I am a console player who transferred from PC. If I get in the closed beta or if they open the PC beta to everyone I'm set. If not I will be okay with it as well. It kinda sucks that console players generally miss out though.

I don't think some really get what a closed beta is and why it has a more controlled environment. Seriously if you don't like it, don't do it. It's not always as fun as the game, there are bugs, things don't work right, and your toons maybe wiped. I always liked beta testing myself. It's nice to have input into a developing game.

I'm looking forward to the prospect of walking into the unknown so to speak as it will be a refreshing change from already knowing everything about a dlc before stepping foot in it.
Betas are great for testing yes but the trend with this game has been people going out and farming sets as soon as someone releases a best in slot video. As a console player this generally kills off the in game community for a few weeks as people are farming gear so nothing really gets done in game for a while. I've noticed that with this patch though people are just going about their daily eso lives whether it be pvp or doing dungeons and waiting to see what's on the horizons rather than going and farming the new gear & charging ridiculous prices for extra pieces they pick up.
