I don't think it will be so much that they are flavor of the month, I think it will be more of a need to level them so they are equal to the other 8-12 characters players already have.

Of course most people will be playing wardens when Morrowind comes out. It's something new and interesting.
But then the numbers will drop off after a month or so, when the newness dies down. Then many people will go back to their older characters. Some will continue to play wardens, but not everybody.

At least it's not like a lot of other MMO's, where when a new class is released, there's an overabundance of that class's role, especially DPS. In an MMO my husband plays, they're going to release two new classes, and both are DPS. He's eager to try them out, but says he's going to wait and ride out the instaqueues he'll get as his tank/healer classes for a while.

While the party finder here is somewhat lacking, at least there's flexibility in the roles each class can play.

They won't be FotM. Everyone will be playing warden because it is new and they have played all the other classes. They won't be playing for competitive reasons, and I don't think FotM is applicable if not for min/max reasons. There is no reason to believe they will be OP.

Complaining that everyone is playing a warden is like complaining that everyone is in Morrowind.

Probably, but it'll die out after a month when...

-Fotm pvp rerollers realize that it's not an op pvp class...at all.

-PvE dps rerollers realize that Wardens aren't the best at dps

-Solo'ers realize that Wardens are very support and group focused.

-Templars realize that they're still better healers

When the dust settles, it'll be me and the few other people who really want this class for what it is. Especially if you're like me and have been waiting for Wardens since release.

Except possibly for your comment about Templar healers, you are exactly right about the Warden. It is primarily a support class. It's for this reason, plus nerfs to Templars specifically and sustain generally, that I think Wardens will be the better healers.

Trust me, there's always a reason why numbers get nerfed for classes. You might not realize it now, but we'll all eventually figure it out.

Remember, not everything about balance is in the patch notes. Balance teams go through a lot of number crunching and if they're nerfing, it's because some other new variable is in play that could send templars over the top on their current state.

That's what patch notes "don't" tell you. It's up to min/max'ers and theorycrafters to find out what the balance team knows.

I have a feeling Templars will be okay.

Yes, I find it utterly shocking that

    1) an MMO company would drum up anticipation for a new class, and
    2) lots of players would likely try/play that new class when it's released.

Shocking. Totally unprecedented in MMO history. Obviously a sign of conspiracy.

    (yes, that's sarcasm. ;) )

I remember when EQ released the Beast Master class. You couldn't go to a zone without tripping over them everywhere.
Such is the nature of MMOs' and new class hype....

I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally !

That's an assumption, and it is incorrect. Please try the class first, then go to the Closed Beta forum to discuss about it, not here. Warden makes good healers/off-healers, they have a chance to compete with Templar healers and they can heal side-by-side with Templar healers, but they aren't better healers, period. Full stop.

I doubt it. The Warden is intended to excel at support roles. Not many are going to want to main a primarily support oriented class after the newness wears off.

When it comes to gaming, I don't touch anything new - that is, until the bugs are sorted out, it is patched up, guides are out and available. So I won't even think about warden until its been around for 1-2 years.

That said, I confess I'm wrestling with a bit of resentment regarding the warden. I can't help feeling the warden is partly responsible for the significant number of silly nerfs and changes that I see in the patch notes draft for MW. So at the moment, playing one is about the last thing on my agenda.

They can hype it all they want.

Testing so far has shown that, while it excels at Tanking/Support and does a good job at healing as well, it's DPS is something to be desired. It's a better Off-Tank class than DK and arguably a contender for main tank but that's pretty much it so far. Even healing with a Warden is not going to be optimal as Templars because Shards trumps Orbs every day, even more so now that Shards returns both resources again, making it the go to resource battery class once again, leaving Warden as a slightly better Healer than a DK/Sorc/NB but not good enough to overcome Shard because that's literally the only thing Templars have over the other classes at this point.

People will make it to level it and play with it but only people that actually like the class will remain Warden while everyone returns to their preferred class.

Yes because, despite the whining about nerfs going around, you will still be able to play classes like stam DK... it's not like the classes are completely broken in Morrowind for shites sake.

Any new class will come out to be overpowering - to sell more. Then it will be 'balanced' with most likely a weight put on Stamina after Magika to sell more race change tokens. Then it may be looked at and balanced again.

Don't doubt its simply to sell more. Look at how Redguard was used since the last time it was changed, now will be worthless after Morrowind patch for a lot of builds )

I think folks expecting the warden to be some massive healer/dps doomsday device are going to be in for a huge letdown. Everything I've seen points to a so so healer, especially with the recent tweaks, a pretty good if quirky tank and a useless dps. This thing will max out at 25 to 30 k dps at most, even on the pts I can hammer those numbers with the other classes. Personally I'm going to use the bear, mostly cos it's cute, then its weapon and guild skills for the rest. The skills just dont feel potent visually, there is no sense of you unleashing destruction in the same way that you get from pretty much any other class, over all it's a bit of a disappointment, but on the plus side the zone looks epic B)
