Dark Elf: Dragonkngiht or Sorcerer?

Trying to go for a Magicka Destruction Staff build. I have tried Sorcerer but I cant get past that every single sorcerer ability is based on lightening for some reason. Whereas with a Dragonkngiht it is almost always fire. I am a bit OCD with my characters and wnat the lore to match them perfectly. My Dark Elf is an Ashlander. Did Ashlander casters in Morrowind ever use anything other than fire? Did they ever cast lightening spells too?

I know Dark Elf has the fire bonus which is why I am leaning towards Dragonknight. But most guides say a Dragonknight should use heavy armor. I assume that is because they are typically tanks?

I haven't played one yet but I've heard of magicka dragonknights which a dark elf might do well with and I would assume they would wear light armor.

On my Xbox account I used a race change token on my old sorc I had transferred from Nord to Dunmer. IMO they make excellent sorcerers and mages in general, and lore supports this, look at House Telvanni.

A Dunmer sorcerer will have 7% to both fire and lightning and 2% frost, but since frost is now for tanking it doesn't really matter.

And you get a small amount of stamina if decide to switch over, it's not great but it saves you the trouble of leveling a new character or spending money for a race change token.

Some good info here. I used this framework for my Mag Sorc build with a couple of tweaks.

I would recommend playing whatever feels the most fun to you. Buffs and nerfs come and go but playing a class that's satisfying to you is the best long term investment.

    Dunmer?

Definitely a Dragonknight for me! Just grab that inferno staff and take mage skills :)

    You'll do real good!

I play a dragonknight with heavy armor, although it's a custom-crafted Seducer set that has a bunch of magicka enchantments on it as well as health enchantments. The Seducer set means if you have five pieces, it lowers the magicka cost of your spells. It's worked great for me as a DK.

AFAIK lore-wise Dark Elves are destruction magic and weapon specialist. Which... Rather fits Sorcerers... But isn't exactly a bad fit for Dragonkngihts ether.

... Given that both fire and lightning have both traditionally fallen into the destruction school of magic, I don't really know why lore Ashlanders would be limited to ether one or the other... Or even just the destruction school at that.

Not a good time to roll a DK. Idk maybe mag is that much better, but I can pull dps on a stam sorc with incomplete skills, passives and rotation that takes concentration, all skills and all passives on a stam DK.

Well that's good to know. Also, aren't most DK spells designed around a close up casting tank?
