This is far fetched.. but how about a mobile app that allows you to manage research/horse?

I manage things for Mass Effect: Andromeda with an app and it's very convenient and keeps me engaged even outside of home. Investing into a whole new app is probably something undesirable for the devs though.

I use "ESO: Workbench" from the app store. It has not been updated in a little while, but does have all traits available. It could really use some updated features (like the ability to track multiple characters' research), but it's still a handy tool that I used on my main crafter.

It seems unlikely ZOS would make an app for this because things like horse training and research are in the game specifically to give you an incentive to log in every day. Once you're in the game there's a good chance you'll stick around and do other things too, so it helps to keep player numbers up. (And back when the game was pay-to-play it was an incentive to keep paying your subscription even if you were taking a break from the game so you didn't fall behind on those things.)

I use ESO Toolkit for android. Track everything. Research, horse, look up glyphs and create them in app to see what you need, create potions the same way. You can do it all. Love this app. And can look up gear sets and such in it. So full of info and free

I was thinking along that line but you pretty much put details and colors to those thoughts.

Does this affect the gameplay in actual game? Meaning let's say my research is done, can I use this app to choose another item to research using the phone app instead of my usual avenue of computing?

Does not interact with the game at all. You tell it your level your at, skill points into research. If you're eso plus and such. And when you research in the game. Just tap the item in the app and say researching. The correct timer countdown starts. You get a notification on your phone when it expires reminding you to research the next thing.
