Sometimes near dark anchors I run into players on autopilot who stand still and rapid fire their light attacks.

I have no understanding for this. If the game is too boring to level up by playing then why play at all? That is kinda the essence of the game?

And that is something that decreases enjoyment not only for them but the players observing such stupidity. ESO online is supposed to be an imaginary world where this kind of activity breaks the illlusion pretty nicely. Is it allowed? If not can they be reported to someone?

The sad thing is that it's still happening and ZOS hasn't really managed to crack down on it in a meaningful way.

I know Jessica said they were looking for a in game way to edit this but really they need to figure out why it takes over a week for a bot report to be acted on (if at all).

I think the only real violation of rubber banding is that you are not subjecting yourself to auto-logout like everyone else.

It got coined rubber banding because of a rumor that to do this you can wrap a rubber band around your keypad, mouse, or console controller. In actuality I believe they are using macros which either come with an expensive keypad, mouse, controller or are a downloadable program for pc. They may or may not violate agreements. They may or may not be bots. Bots are gold sellers, RMT's (real money traders), that are only leveling a character to do some goal their boss set for them. RMT's usually work in a home office that looks like a telemarketing service. They are found in the USA as well as overseas. Or it could just be a young dad with a wife and newborn twins who has one foot still in gaming and the other foot in changing diapers and trying to get in enough work and sleep.

What it is tho is a potential witch hunt that will get legit players account banned. That is what you get when you live in a policed state. There will always be innocents prosecuted and persecuted. So if it isn't getting out of hand or interrupting gameplay just leave it be.

I was wondering why went I went to an anchor there was a guy constantly jumping right where the pinion would be if the anchor was up. I'm like, we'll isn't he excited to play. Then i realized later he is a bot trying to close that pinion so he gets the xp for it. Should have just let him die instead of fighting near him

@Jemcrystal rubberbands, macros and any kind of automation are violations. Jessica Folsom confirmed it in another thread about this.
    Hi everyone,

We know there have been a lot of questions recently about botting, automated play, what’s a Terms of Service Violation and what isn’t, and what we’re doing to combat TOS-violating behavior. We’d like to answer some of those questions and provide insight.

Per our Terms of Service, this is the definition of botting and automated play:

"Utilizing automation for your character is a violation of our Terms of Service. This is defined as taking action on your character, without human input, to further advance your progress in the game. Which is considered botting."

Recently, some of you have asked if it’s okay to put tape or a rubber band on your controller. The short answer is “No.” Automating your character in any way, including placing tape or a rubber-band on a console controller, is considered a violation of our Terms of Service, and action may be taken on your account. You must be actively controlling your character.

In regards to our efforts to combat botting and automated play, we’re tackling it on two fronts: Game Development and Customer Support.

On the Game Development front, we are auditing the monsters that are most commonly targeted by those who bot and automate play to ensure the spawn timers are what they should be. As we find them, we’re fixing any monsters that are instantly re-spawning or on a spawn timer that is shorter than intended.

On the Customer Support side of things, our Terms of Service team suspends and bans accounts daily. We review all TOS reports that we receive, and prioritize the investigations of accounts that have received multiple complaints. We regularly send our Support Agents in-game to watch high-traffic areas such as Dolmens, and take action on any violators we identify. We turn over identified “black marketeers” and repeat offenders to Sony and Microsoft, which sometimes results in a ban of the individual’s PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. We also do other secret things. ;)

So how can you help us with our efforts to get rid of those who are botting and/or automating their characters? Reporting them to us is a huge help, and we do review every ticket we receive.

Honestly most do it to level up while sleeping, at work or at school.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

This game is a commercial product, and it all explains. You can pay money, buy a game supplement - and kill unarmed women in the back, in the middle of the city. You can be a fat man with a beard, buy a woman's pink dress and go in it in this game. You can run through the dungeons, and spoil the game to other players, killing the Bosses.
You can run along with another player in the location, and open the chests under his nose.
You can be a cheater, and provoke a duel. And then win by disabling the game animation.

I have to agree that autoleveling is most likely a symptom of lack of content. Having leveled up 10 of my 12 toons to 50 (other two are high 40's) and currently with almost 700cp, I must say, these last two toons are dragging. There's only so many times you can do the quests over and over and over and over.

And rather than put out new content, it seems ZoS's philosophy is to spend resources on nerfs.

These things are where I just trust in the developers direction to it all.

My preference is to enjoy the experience of the people that rubberband their characters. It is fun to interrupt them now and then, and at some point they have paid to get the game account to login. So in small ways the community benefits for their existence.

The reality of their life scenario would be quite a sad tale, they are dedicating their computer resource to have the game running to either skip the levelling process for themselves or to make a small profit to resell an account. Both are sad tales as I cannot envision much happiness on their end occurring in the process.

Maybe they are just doing it for that one day as they need a couple levels to be able to unlock something that they are having difficulty to get?

Either way it is quick to judge that which we are not experiencing. I am sure the moderators on the game have it in check.

Well, when you already leveled a few characters the "proper way" but want a fresh one fast and without going trough the same boring scenery and quest lines the 12th time dolmen rubberbanding doesn't actually look that bad. I just ignore those players. At most I amuse myself kiting the dolmen mobs over them so they kill them :)

Where'd you pull that 80% number from? I'd think that on a bell curve, the average would be the middle 50 percent, and the above and below average people occupying the upper and lower quartile respectively, and thus the number of people with average and lower than average intelligence would be 25% + 50% = 75%.

I'm only asking because when you go on an online message board and call other people stupid, it's usually a good idea not to be factually incorrect yourself.

What I would like is to simply remove the ability to hop up onto inaccessible areas near dolmens where an afk player can set his stick to autoheavyattack. As it is now, such players are merely an ambiance-breaking annoyance. Without their safe perches, they could add a fun aspect to the game as real players kite daedra over to kill them. :)

The dolmen near Vulkhel Guard in Auridon seems to be a good example of this. Somehow, the autostick bots get on top of a tent there where the baddies can't really reach them. It seems that if an afk player was vulnerable to daedra attack at dolmens the problem would sort of solve itself?

That pretty much is the case as is. You have people who openly advertise doing VMA for you (for gold of course), and guaranteeing you of a leaderboard spot for the week. You have people selling gold in the zone chats regularly, and linking which site to visit to buy said gold. You have people who sell AP for gold (I don't know how this is done). You have people who sell: VMoL, VCoS, and VRoM skin runs. You been had and still have people who sell emperorship. When the exploit was around, you had people selling Dro-m'Athra Destroyer titles. You even have people selling Skyreach runs now.

At what point is actually playing the game feeling rewarding, outside of being able to buy certain things from the achievement vendors for housing? Because, I genuinely don't see it. I really don't. It's very crushing to see a CP200-something person with a Dro-m'Athra Destroyer title, and Maelstrom Inferno Staff. Only for them to link it, and it's sharpened. Very crushing, and it's incredibly obvious what's up with the player.

This is how it starts. Bots taking over games, leveling up toons quickly. The next thing you know, it will be full blown Sky.Net and terminator droids taking out the organics for playing too slow.
