This is how it starts. Bots taking over games, leveling up toons quickly. The next thing you know, it will be full blown Sky.Net and terminator droids taking out the organics for playing too slow.

I'm already working on a theory that Morrowind is actually a codeword to start Judgement Day.

A low CP player that has very difficult to do accomplishments is not necessary a "carry for gold" or "someone else logging in that account" with or without financial compensation, ingame or IRL. More likely it's either a player with another account - I know many people who have opened a 2nd account back when there weren't any extra character slots for sale - or opening an account on the other server - ex. a NA player opening his account on EU. As for sharpened VMA staves on low CP players it's probably just luck involved, because the several dozen runs needed on average to have > 50% chances for even a mediocre trait one will probably gain several hundred CP.

Remember the god mode in 90s doom games and dozen of others? Or was it 90s? I suppose many would love to get that on ESO too.

Botting is just a sign of a deeper issue. There should be means to get to engame content instantly with alts after you have reached 50 with your 1st character.

And please dont start with "learning your class properly" crap.

CP 600, bow/bow build, heavy armor. I can haz dungeon loots?

I really think they need an active gm. If there is a report, they fly in and bring doen the mighty wrath of the ban hammer. If its done quickly, theres no business

The sad thing is that it's still happening and ZOS hasn't really managed to crack down on it in a meaningful way.

I know Jessica said they were looking for a in game way to edit this but really they need to figure out why it takes over a week for a bot report to be acted on (if at all).

Because you don't ban bots individually. You wait till you have lists of 1000s then ban them all at one time. If you don't alone then they figure out quicker why they were banned and how they did it. By the time you get through the current botters the old ones are back with a new system. Do it in one fell swoop you might get a couple months of relavtively no bots.

And with every bot and abuser the game becomes more unplayable - until it reaches a limit where real playing pays no more.

That pretty much is the case as is. You have people who openly advertise doing VMA for you (for gold of course), and guaranteeing you of a leaderboard spot for the week.

Easy solution there, get rid of this "leaderboard" thing. (Seriously, why does even PvE need to be "competitive". Bad enough that PvP exists at all.....)

Once people turn something into a competition, folks will do all sorts of stupid stuff to "get ahead". (Ok, to be fair, they'll do that even without competition, but competition just makes it more/stronger.)

    ---
...I suppose I've been lucky. I haven't seen gold/run sellers in chat, except for Skyreach. And that's paying for a group/assistance, not someone running your character for you. I've actually been surprised at the total lack of "gold sellers" in this game, since I've seen it in every other MMO I've played.

You have people selling gold in the zone chats regularly, and linking which site to visit to buy said gold. You have people who sell AP for gold (I don't know how this is done). You have people who sell: VMoL, VCoS, and VRoM skin runs. You been had and still have people who sell emperorship. When the exploit was around, you had people selling Dro-m'Athra Destroyer titles. You even have people selling Skyreach runs now.

At what point is actually playing the game feeling rewarding, outside of being able to buy certain things from the achievement vendors for housing?
I agree with the sentiment in selling achievements, but the AP one is purely commercial and is in exchange for buying AP items, not getting AP directly to that player. There's an AP:Gold ratio and person A buys <x> item for AP, then person B gets <x> in exchange for gold.

Also, at this point in gaming history, the whole "The game begins at level cap!" MMO meme is so entrenched that it'll never go away. Too many people think that way, and as long as they do any means of power-leveling will be undertaken by them. (Because why should they "waste time" with the "filler" that is leveling/questing/story? /facepalm.)

And it's not the "stupid casuals" who created this fallacy, it's the Uber Pro Raider Bros who can't be bothered with anything but endgame.

Sometimes near dark anchors I run into players on autopilot who stand still and rapid fire their light attacks.

I have no understanding for this. If the game is too boring to level up by playing then why play at all? That is kinda the essence of the game?
I'm not condoning botting but for some the game only begins at level cap where they fixate on phat lewt and lolBiS gear, so they do anything to make the journey 1-cap as easy as possible .. and AFKing at a dolmen while asleep or elsewhere works for them.

Levelling is boring and can understand why people rubberband to level.

    Levelling IS the game.
    Being high level is boring.

Maybe for you but a lot of ppl hate levelling.
    End game is pvp.

    pvp is crap.
    leveling is so fun :)

Report them as botters, ZOS seems to be more active on taking them out. At least the ones I report go away.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

That's fine if you're also going to invest the time and energy in following the money and sanctioning the buyers.

Otherwise you're not stopping their operations, just giving them windows of time to farm and cash out before they need a new account.

Actually, if you report each of the players that are doing it, they suddenly disappear.
