What is so fun about heavy attacking?

With the new PTS changes happening, the new meta is going to be heavy attacking stam builds that dont even run a single target spammable and magicka builds the weave heavy attacks instead of light attacks. Why would this ever seem fun to anyone that plays this game? all this does is ruin the uniqueness of classes, stam builds all run nearly the same skills 9/10 of them being non-class skills. When i envision this games future and i see myself heavy attacking for half my time spent playing the game, all i see is boredom in my future. I honestly dont see my self continuing with this game even considering my 3000+ hours spent playing if the new meta is going to be simplified to all non-class skills and heavy attacking. Hopefully ZOS recognizes that the way that the game is currently going is causing people to drop their subscriptions and morrowind pre-orders and they do something to turn back some of their planned changes to better suite the fast passed play style that i and im sure other people love about this game.

Edit: im going to add to this post that my perspective comes almost solely from an end game min-max PVE perspective as that is almost all i do in this game.
Edit 2: To all the people that say having a single target spammable is just as boring as a heavy attack, with an actual ability as my primary dps, i can light attack into my spammable into an animation cancel and move on to my next skill before i could even finish using one fully charged heavy attack, so that is why i consider holding down the heavy attack button to be boring as apposed to using an actual single target spammable ability.

Based on my experience the bold is at least not obviously shown to be true. Will heavy attacks and other resource producing options see more use - of course. but there is no evidence of it being necessary or even best practice (assuming live is exactly the same what we have in the first playtest patch) to toally drop single target spammables for stamina, only use heavy attack or for magica to drop light attack weaving entirely.

not doing things exactly as you do them now does not mean you have to go to the opposite extreme.

i wonder how many of the "either this extreme or all the other extreme" have played this in test?

From what i can see ZOS is setting up a spectrum of choices between "max sustain" and "maxdam" and a lot of approaches and builds and tactics filling up the spaces in that spectrum. For some, it may be as simple as using cost reducing glyphgs and a slight nudge to the rotation.

Not really. Try out No-CP Azura, you mostly do fine with a sustain set and 1 damage set.

It's the only attack in the game that has any weight behind it, except for Wrecking Blow perhaps. Everything else feels like fly-squatter fencing. So it's very satisfying to hit with.

I do this already with my lightning staff. The best way I can explain it is with a boxing analogy. Heavy attacking is like when a boxer jabs his opponents. It's not "exciting" in most cases, but they add up. Abilities would be like uppercuts.

Yes, a boxing fight with all uppercuts is more fun, but it's not an effective strategy because you'll be gassed, effectively running out of resources.

So, yeah, the act itself isn't "fun", but winning is. So I do it.

Could the heavy attack meta be a way to combat animation cancelling essentially catering to the noobs?

The heavy attack meta is for those that want to max damage output. If you want to build for sustain and long battles or utility, then you cam build something else.

I can see proc sets coming back as well. Get rdy for tremor, viper, insert 3rd proc set here.

I'll agree until the noob part. I'd be stunned if it doesn't lower animation cancelling but I don't see it as "catering to noobs".

There are so few people that do it, especially noobs, that it's more like catering to long term players who have weird builds. My build is weird AF to everyone but I'm approaching my 30,000th kill with probably half of them as a solo player. So, I guess it's catering to me?

This is a pretty good point. When I spam pokey sticks it's not any more fun than heavy attacks. Same thing with breath of life, a javelin or radiant oppress... wait ... spamming Radiant Oppression is more fun. Never mind on that one.

But do you know why it's fun? Because RO kills things. The animation or my MADSKILLZBRAH aren't why it's a better time. It's simply more fun because people fall over when I time it right.

I've killed plenty of people with heavy attacks. As long as blades are flying or fire is erupting around me I am having a blast. Doesn't matter to me which buttons I push to make it happen.

Also true. I would love to see the breakdown of my career kills with each weapon and ability. Heavy Lightning Staff attacks might actually be higher than anything else now that you mention it.

@t3hdubzy you may be very right... I'm thinking of switching my mag temp to a stam temp just for a change of pace. But going really trollish with a bow heavy attack... jack up the befoul CP, poisons plus proc sets. Obviously for the CP campaigns
