[PSA] DO NOT disclose if you got a Closed Beta Invite for Morrowind!

As the title.

It is a violation of the Non-Disclosure Agreement sent out by ZOS ans Bethesda to even say if you got an invite into the Morrowind Closed Beta Test.

Many of you have probably seen the threads getting locked left and right in regard to this subject, and the reason is because even acknowledging that you got an invite is a violation of the NDA. It worked in exactly this same manner when I was in the Closed Beta Tests for the Skyrim DLC, and the testers couldn't even say that we WERE testers until the Beta Tests were done and over with and we had received explicit releases from the NDA we agreed to.

As seen in the multiple threads getting locked when people start voicing that they did get an invite:

https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/4000567/#Comment_4000567
We are closing this thread as it is considered an NDA violation to discuss receiving a beta invitation. Please go to the appropriate forum if you want to discuss beta related topics covered under the NDA.

Closed Beta tests are fun, and give you a bit of a peek "behind the scenes" of game design and production. It is also a kinda cool little badge of honor to have been chosen in the first place and to have been and be able to participate in this sort of thing for a game that you love.

So to get kicked out of it and have your access removed for something so small as a violation of this nature, would definitely suck heartily.

So; if you received an invite, congratulations!

But please, for your own sake, and for your ability to keep access to the Closed Beta; keep the knowledge of getting your invite PRIVATE! There will be plenty of time to rub shoulders with other invitees in the Closed Beta Forums, but don't get kicked out of it for shouting it out here!

Good luck to all the invitees, and I hope you have just as much fun as I have had in the past in Closed Beta Tests; but please don't ruin it for yourself!

Have a great day! :)

I can understand why some people might not realise because in my experience it varies, and from what I've heard the email is ambiguous. I've done some stuff under NDAs where the only restriction was on sharing details, you could tell people you were involved and what you were making/testing but not how it was going. But then I've been under others where you could not even admit that the project existed, let alone that you were a part of it.

But to me the logical solution there is to wait until you've read through the entire non-disclosure agreement and if it's still unclear ask ZOS first.

I also understand that's frustrating. I've been dying to play Morrowind since the day it was announced (really want my warden!) so it would be hard to keep it a secret. As much as I know it's highly unlikely I'd be picked I have to admit I did check my email when I saw the post saying invites had gone out. If I got one it'd be really annoying to have to keep it quiet, but it's for good reason. (Remember all the terrible reviews ESO got at launch because some blogger logged on for one stress test and was annoyed that the game ran slowly?) I'm glad ZOS have learned their lesson and are treating this like a proper beta test instead of a free preview of a basically finished product.

But it's probably not worth risking being kicked out of the beta test just to tell your friends you got in!

Indeed. From the pool of players I have seen/heard it's not very exclusive to those who tested either (not that I care) so I can see a lot of people not understanding NDA posting over the next weeks.

No, I don't have an invite.

I'm just trying to help the people who haven't been a part of something like this before, to keep from ruining it for themselves. As I said in my OP, it would suck to get kicked out of the Beta from something like this. That would suck in the worst way.

So, I'm just trying to help people avoid making a mistake that they will regret later.

BTW: I play on Xbox. I haven't ever even been to the regular PTS on my PC account. :)

The mail is an invitation, not a sign-in. You did not sign any NDA just by receiving an invitation. Calm down. It doesn't work that way, you're not suddenly bound to anything just because you got an email.

@clocksstoppe Go check the numerous Locked threads where people are disclosing that they did in fact get an invite. Check the reason that those threads have been closed, then get back to me in this thread.

    I'll wait.

that doesnt even make sense. You cant give a beta key and then sign the NDA and have that NDA apply retroactively. WHat if you get the beta key but dont sign?? Cant go against something you have not signed.

I would assume - but don't take my word for it, it is just an assumption - people won't be punished for it because, as you said, you can't have the NDA apply retroactively, it makes no sense. Just closing threads, though, makes sense.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

It doesn't matter if YOU think it's "meaningful discussion" or not.

The fact is: The NDA explicitly states that even acknowledging that you got an invite is a prohibited action, therefore disclosing that you got an invite is a violation and could result in someone getting removed from the Closed Beta.

If it states in the NDA that you cannot disclose, then you cannot disclose without running the risk of violating the NDA.

Thus; Beta invitees would be best served by keeping their mouths shut on that subject.

And no, it's not just a "spam" reason for locking the threads. It's explicitly defined in the NDA.

I'm assuming many people who are receiving invites only participated on open betas, not closed betas. Or they were under less strict NDAs when they participated on closed betas.
