4 man groups Templar will still be optimal

As for trials it may be one Templar one Warden. We'll have to wait to see how effective the natures embrace skills will be.

From what I hear trials groups will still run with two templar healers and then a warden off tank for the group utility.

I'm excited for warden (even though I plan on just having one as an alt) because it seems more of a "buff" class then a pure healer sort.

Thus I don't see it overcoming Templar as THE healer in dungeons or even trials, but I can see maybe one healer or an off tank being designated more of a "buffer" role which I think is cool and I miss when games had even more roles then the straight trinity (a class great a time CC, buffers, debuffers, etc.)

Not a chance. Templars will still be the main healer, but Wardens will be a good in a buff support role.

It's too situational and positional. People are lazy and averse to that kind of planning and execution. There will, however, be some truly awesome players who make use of the healing skillset--but they'll be in the minority.

It doesn't have to, it looks really nice anyway. Just as other classes can heal, so too can Warden. Looks good on paper also. There will be trials groups running 1 Templar healer and 1 Warden healer.

Also, they get a couple of nice aoe heals to stack with Grand Healing/Blessing of Protection, plus some buffs.

Templar need only 1 skill to play ESO - Breath of Life

How are you going to beat that? Give Warden a Passive Skill that massively heals people when they are near the Warden? xD

Who knows. I doubt anyone can see into the future just from the skill details without numbers. Time shall tell.

At the very least Warden healing will be a lot more interesting and skillful than Templars BoL spamming. Seriously I don't heal much but I might get into it with Warden

No. And this is my biggest problem with ESO right now. Healers are almost required to be Templar due to Breath of Life. Sure, I can heal 4 man vet dungeons just fine on my DK but a trial? No way, which is exactly what ESO is supposed to be against. On top of that, you are supposed to play as you want (to a degree). I can be a competitive tank with any class. I can be a competitive DPS with any class. As a healer, I put my group at a disadvantage by playing on my DK. Sure, I can do the content but I offer no advantage over a Templar.

Take Breath of Life away from Templars and put it on the restro staff. They do not give DKs the only taunt in the game. So why give Templars the only instant group heal? Templars would still be a beast with Repeantance and Shards. However now Dk, Sorc, Magblades, all would now be able to heal on par with Templars but offer a different style.

But what do I know, right? Anyways, Warden should be fun to play. They will make good DPS classes and tanks. If built correctly, they will be able to be top notch. Healer? I doubt it, only due to the way they lock down the heater roles to Templars.

I'm actually pretty disappointed with what I've seen of Warden. Very few Stamina morphs, nothing that I've seen for a Stamina DPS player in Winter tree, no real 'melee' options, the list goes on. This is why I like my Magplar, he can play at range or melee all from within the class, Warden seems to be mostly aimed at 'group' play- which is pretty much what they said on ESO Live, but for a solo DPS player, the class doesn't seem to offer a whole lot that a Templar cannot do better.

I'll wait until I see builds start to roll out before deciding if it's worth creating an alt for, until then, my Magplar and Stamsorc will continue to be my preferred classes.

This is strange to me that people are focusing so much on BoL. I hardly ever use it unless someone is away from the group doing mechanics and Springs/Ritual won't reach them.

You know what's one of the biggest reasons templars are so prominent in trials? Sure the burst heal from BoL is nice, the shards are nice (but magplar dps do that too), but what really makes them stand out is Channeled Focus. From one ability you can get almost a full uptime on Major Mending, and hey it also gives you Major resolve and major ward.

In a trial you can go with 1 Templar and 1 Warden, and it is what I will be doing. But to compare the two, you can run with 2 templars in a Trial but you can't run with 2 Wardens, you would be nerfing your group doing so.

I hope people don't hate on templars because of BoL. And I hope people don't ask for it to be nerfed again. Admit it or not, you want it more than you hate it, PvE and PvP wise. BoL has saved everyone many times. If you want, have threads asking for warden heals to be buffed, not for BoL to be nerfed, it will be everyone's loss.

I like that the warden's playstyle is different from a templar. It makes the game more diverse.

PvP wise, the warden is better support than the templar. It has cheap healing ultimate, tons of situational skills (porting you to other allies, magicka/stamina regen when needed), tons of buffs that last longer than templar (major resolve, major prophecy and so on). I think it will rock hard in groups & battlegrounds. But I reserve my judgment until I see the skills in action and the amount of healing they provide with a fully equipped character.

PvE I am not sure. I guess it will depend if the new trial introduces mechanics requiring you to use the specific skills that were designed for the class (porting and all). BoL is not that used anyway so I don't think the burst heal is the issue. Maybe the spear shards ? but who runs stamina characters anyway in competitive trials ? and templar dds can throw spears.

I agree, without BoL templars become even more crappy, they are good still but they really don't need a nerf. If you want to nerf something nerf sorcs.

As for the question, not sure, I doubt it but it may just be a good alt class for healers besides templars.

Luminous Shards (Spear Shards morph): This morph now causes the synergy to also restore an equal amount of Magicka or Stamina to the casting Templar, with a 20-second cooldown.
    Developer Comments:
    Spoilerhide
This reduces the need to have a Templar to constantly feed Stamina to your Stamina DPS and Tank, while making the Spear Shards synergy more useful to Magicka builds.

Repentance (Restoring Aura morph): This morph now restores Health and Stamina based on your character level instead of your Max Resource. It also only restores Stamina to the casting Templar, but continues to restore Health to the casting Templar and his allies

Sacred Ground: This passive ability now grants Minor Mending instead of Major Mending when you are standing in your Cleansing Ritual, Rune Focus, or Rite of Passage areas of effect.

Hmm dunno now depends on how strong the heals of the warden are.

I'm pretty sure I initially said no, but that was based on seeing the Warden skills only, and not on the changes to Templar. The removal of Major Mending from the Templars is a huge change that makes it a very real possibility that they will no longer be the best healers.

Well my vote offically changes if the patch will go through. I can see meta people booting templar healers from vet dungeons. It's not even entirely the devs fault, Templars could still be decent healers but people are jerks. I was kicked from a normal dungeon just for being a khajiit healer instead of argonian. Imagine what those very people would do once they see wardens CAN be better healers.

So basically other healers also can have shards:

Necrotic Orb: The synergy from this ability and its morphs now restore Stamina or Magicka to the synergy-user, whichever percentage is lower. The amount restored is now based on your character level instead of your Max Resource. The synergy also has a shared cooldown with the Spear Shards synergy.

    This is nice.
