The biggest problem with crates is you are forced to gamble to get any of the new cool items like hats, pets, costumes, etc. you used to be able to get with sub crowns but which now most often go straight to the crystal section with no chance to buy outright EVER, no matter how many sub crowns you get.
This makes sub crowns very close to WORTHLESS.
Many threads have been posted about people feeling the sub incentives still need a little love, and ZOS themselves have indicated they are looking for ways to improve the benefits of ESO+ a bit moving forward. So, I thought I would share my idea for what would make the sub feel more worthwhile to me, given the current system we have in place.
The problem is really pretty simple. Prices on lots of stuff have close to doubled (sometimes more) since launch, yet the monthly sub Crown allotment has never changed. They did add the craft bag, though while I do love it I have never been a fan of the "take something away to give you something" style of incentive.
Furthermore, the vast majority of new cool items like hats, pets, costumes, etc. you used to be able to get with ESO+ Crowns now most often go straight to the Crystal section with no chance to buy outright EVER, no matter how many sub crowns you get. I honestly think most people don't even realize there is a separate currency, and a section under Crown Crates in the Crown Store that sells these items for the Crystals you get exchanging bad RNG items you got but didn't want while gambling your Crowns away in the Crate Casino.
What I propose is that ZOS add a decent chunk of Crate Crystals to the current list of ESO+ incentives. People could save them for when something they wanted was in the Crate reward section of the Crown store, and never even have to touch a crate, and they could save them over multiple crate seasons of subbing. Eventually they could save enough for a current Apex mount just from saving like a year worth of sub Crystals.
Alternately, they could allow people to exchange Crowns for Crystals, though they would really need to bump up the monthly Crown allotment to 2k or even 2500 if they went that route, to be fair given the steady inflation of Crown Store pricing.
What are your thoughts/suggestions on the sub incentives?

You are sort of misinterpreting or cherry-picking my words out of context though, and the parts you are choosing to leave out completely changes the obvious meaning of what I was intending to say:...forced to gamble to get any of the new cool items like hats, pets, costumes, etc. you used to be able to get with sub crowns
Do you not see how "they are forcing us to gamble" is a completely different sentence and meaning then "you are forced to gamble IF you want these things which never used to require you to gamble" as above? It would be like saying the sentence "we should hook up" is somehow the same as "we should hook up Discord so we can chat."
The fact is, game started off allowing you to just buy things from the Crown Store. Then they bumped the prices (that has since continued), and later, they started relying more and more on the "limited time only!" impulse sales gimmick.
Now most of the things you used to be able to just straight up buy, you suddenly can't anymore. THAT SUCKS. In order to get MOST of those things you used to be able to buy (talking about TYPES of things like hats, not ALL hats including ones no longer on the store anywhere, but I think you understood that), you are left with NO CHOICE but to gamble.
Again, THAT SUCKS. This would be a solution. I think, a good one.

ESO+ does get major perks non subs cannot get by any means. The crafting hag and we will get more bank storage just for being subbed. I think it was confirmed double bank space.
Both of those are pretty huge.

I'm not greedy I think what we get is by far more then what a lot of other subs get in other MMO's. The price of crown stuff is pretty much the same there are stuff that are more expensive then others when they come out, but by and large the prices are the same. Just like in real life you have to save your crowns as you do money get what you want, if you spend crowns all at once you wont have any for the larger new stuff comes out. That is life get over yourselves that keep wanting more and more and more.
ZOS has gone the 4 and 5, 6 route. if theyre going to go this way- then go all the way- and give us better conveniences- lift research, lore books, shard and levelling times, give more slots, players would sign with the quickness.
but 5 is especially attractive- especially to MMO's where players invest alot of time and money in players- and want a sense of individuality, character and "liveliness" to their experience. They need to up it ALOT more if they want to attract anything but the most devoted of followers.

Considering that horses were like that before B2P was the thing and you actually could only put 60 pts to upgrade a horse, I wouldn't connect the horse speed to seeking money. My thoughts on some things...Giles.floydub17_ESO wrote: »@Galwylin

But how huge are they to someone that doesn't craft and deconstructs everything they pick up? I think those things are nice. They allow you to pick up and keep everything. But honestly, do we need to or have they just made it possible. That's assuming the bank space does make it in. I'm pretty sure the more items a game has to track on each character the more it impacts performance so we will see.NewBlacksmurf wrote: »No one is a "free player" everyone is paying in most cases. I am referring to non subscribers (or whatever we should call it). Of course I know we all have to make some type of purchase upfront but more content means someone somewhere has to offer up the cash. Those that don't play for "free". Each month. But I'm glad you made the distinction. If you do plan to play those areas, 5500 will buy them (if you didn't start with the Gold edition) and you don't need to sub beyond four months. Which is what the whole discussion is about. How to make the sub more attractive.MasterSpatula wrote: »The biggest problem with crates is you are forced to gamble to get any of the new cool items like hats, pets, costumes, etc. you used to be able to get with sub crowns but which now most often go straight to the crystal section with no chance to buy outright EVER, no matter how many sub crowns you get.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not completely sure of my numbers here but I believe there were two new costumes offered in the crown store this month compared to the 6-8 in the crates. I can't remember any new pets but there seemed to be a whole page of them in the crates. Of course the new mounts (still the ugliest things I've seen in the game btw). While forced may bring to mind a gun to the head it just means if you want new items of certain categories you will gamble. Plain and simple. IF things were reversed and most of the new items were going to the store and only a few to the crates we wouldn't be seeing crowns as we do now. To be fair, the naysayers (who I argued against) were right. The crates seem to have become the focus. I still am not gambling. And I am curious. Have the drop rates decreased or have the crates lost their luster? I just don't see as much from other players as I did when they were new. That would be poetic.I'm not greedy I think what we get is by far more then what a lot of other subs get in other MMO's. So on the one hand you want us to believe we're getting more than other MMOs but we're just greedy. Basically, shut up and give them our money. No, thanks. Do like other businesses and earn it. Stop depending on this nostalgia kick and fanboy appeal. If you say all the game needs is the initial purchase then I think we all have met that requirement. Stop asking for more money. Stop giving me popups about some stupid sale. We paid already. See, you may think your fellow players are greedy but I'm sure we don't pop up with our hand out on you. If you want money each month DO. BETTER.
Actually what ZOS did more that other MMOs was give everything away at the start then expect people to sub. There is no downside to not subbing and who is surprised a large number of people don't. And why wouldn't those thinking they were getting all future content free of charge with one with that debacle on Morrowind drop it. Like the anniversary boxes. Most MMOs would only offer them to their subscribers. You know, the people that contribute to the game in ways to keep the lights on. Nope. They could have even offered two instead of one. Its like they have absolutely no appreciation in any way for their subscribers. Is it true the craft bag wasn't part of the sub to begin with? Its like they didn't pay one bit of attention that they no longer required subscriptions to play and just thought people would keep doing it.ZOS has gone the 4 and 5, 6 route. if theyre going to go this way- then go all the way- and give us better conveniences- lift research, lore books, shard and levelling times, give more slots, players would sign with the quickness.

Exactly my thoughts. Really, how game breaking is it a player's horse can go 60% faster? I don't even get why that's a thing. Storage capacity and toughness make sense but still, if you get there eventually why is it behind a timer since a new player isn't even going to have a horse in many cases much less the money to train it completely. I would assume that is who its meant to punish since MMOs love sticking the little guy with some arbitrary nuisance for some reason.

The horse upgrading involved tradeoffs. Go max speed, and you get knocked off your horse easily. Go max stamina and you are slow. In both cases, you are foregoing 60 inventory slots.
