Considering to buy Gold Edition, but can I play it?
I've noticed the gold edition is on sale on Steam right now, and I'm considering to buy it.
However, I bought ESO from a local store, and maybe I'm being a bit paranoid here, but:
Will I have to create a completely new account, or do I just download the Gold Edition and login with my current account?
I wouldn't mind creating a new account, honestly, twice as much toons, but I would preffer my current characters to be able to enjoy the DLC's.
Gold Edition won't let you "upgrade" your current account to include access to the DLCs -- it's a standalone version of the game that requires a new account.
However, since you already have the base game, it's currently cheaper to buy a 5500 crown pack ($24, cheaper than Gold Edition on Steam) and buy the Guilds and Glory pack, which includes all the DLC the Gold Edition includes and costs 5500 crowns.
7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019. Templar/mageblade/magDK. Requiem, Legend, Knights of Daggerfall. Currently retired from the wars.
I just tried the opposite; to login through my bf's ESO launcher (purchased through official ESO channel), and into my ESO account which I purchased through Steam. I'm afraid it doesn't work, though I'd hoped it would. You'll get a notification saying that your username/password combo is incorrect, and that you'll need to log in through Steam if that's where you purchased the game.
Would love to try the other way around as well (your described scenario) but I'm automatically logged in through Steam, and I'm having some trouble cancelling the auto-logon, so that my bf can try to login through my launcher. My assumption is that this wouldn't work either.
Edit: so yes, I think you'd have to create an entirely new account

This is true.
With the 5500 crownpack on sale it would be cheaper to upgrade your current account rather than buy a new one.
Edit: If you're on EU server it would save you €4 :P
Okay, thanks for the help guys. I'll probably chip in another €10,00 for the Shadow of the Hist DLC. Gotta help my egg-brothers.
But I might try to get my GF into this game, using the free2play week. I guess it's recommended to take my chances and buy HER the Gold Edition, right? (I think she will like the "almost" free imperial horse).
