What do you do when you someone takes a node from under you

This generally rarely bothers me. The only time it does bother me is due to the bad mechanics of the game itself, and that's when I pick a chest and didn't realize I was almost at inventory full, so only one or two items goes into my inventory and the rest is just shown to me, and I didn't get it. Then someone runs up and loots the chest while I'm trying to either sell or delete items to get the other stuff. Basically, the design should have linked that chest to you for a minute or so once you picked the lock. But stupid things happen, and the world is a complicated place.
    Clueless, but willing to learn.

Yep. Someone took a chest while I was fighting the NPCs guarding it, standing right on top of it, so I followed him everywhere and stole absolutely everything from the ****. He kept trying to stealth, thinking that would make him invisible, and he kept trying to sprint but I could run faster. Eventually he sprinted off a cliff and died and I felt happy enough to move on.

But seriously, if this game is going to allow resource stealing like this, then it should also allow PKing. There's literally no downside to stealing from people, so anyone without a moral compass is encouraged to be a *** in this game.

I'm not ever on chat so I just speak harshly of their upbringing to the air and move on. I'm much harsher towards the rude ones who leave chests and other collectibles with junk still in them. Is it so hard to take the damn worms or copper and destroy them if you don't want them so things can respawn?

Just move on to next node, being upset over it takes more energy then looking for more wood/iron/plants/whatever.

However if I see someone going for a node/chest, I usually leave them be. One time I did accidentally steal someone's loot, he unlocked the chest and he must have been full because then he backed out with stuff still inside. This is when I first started playing so I thought everyone got a copy of the chest like they do in dungeons, but then I noticed he came back to the chest, well, where it was anyway, and I saw the stuff I grabbed was his level. So I mailed it back to him, hopefully he got it.

If I've had a particularly bad day, I may call the person an unflattering name, but nothing unprintable. Otherwise, I just move on to the next. I always feel guilty if I get there first and get the node a half second before the other person. I often wonder if other people feel that way.

On the topic of mudballs though....I got mudballs thrown at me several times yesterday when I wasn't doing a darn thing to earn that type of treatment. I was not farming, grinding or anything else. I was just doing the quest I was given (trying to level up some alts during this event) and BAM!!! Then BAM, BAM, BAM!! Where can I get some of these mudballs in case this happens again? I've seen them at guild traders in the past, but not recently.

Hmm. Some of the responses to this thread have made me think again about some things I've been doing. I have to admit I've been guilty of assuming that someone standing around doing nothing was just not interested in a chest or a node they were close to so I've just gone ahead and looted it. Nobody's ever said anything and I've never received a mudball in the face so maybe I was right, better not to chance it though... there are plenty of nodes for everyone :)

    I throw a tantrum
I kick and scream, call my mom and tell her a mean person took my node!

And then! I follow that person, and try and steal their nodes for the next ten minutes. It's usually ineffective. But hey! I tried.

A player followed me around an area, in one of the zones doing exactly that. About to pick the nodes when the said person raced in three different times, just as my character was about to interact.
Didn't say a word in zone chat, whisper them or report them. Plenty of other nodes around. Best way to stop a potential troll, is to not react.
To top things off, the following day a player ran up from behind when I was about to pick pocket an npc. They failed and was chased off by the npc. After the npc came back, went to have another go at pick pocketing. The same player came back as I was about to have another attempt at pick pocketing and killed the npc using the blade of woe. This time I chased after the player, as I was going to report them. Couldn't keep up with their bolt escape lol.

What will reporting the player do? Nothing! He wasn't breaking any rules and you think there will be some type of disciplinary action taken on him when nothing happens to botters and people afk at dolmens ?

Forgive my ignorance but can you please elaborate on afking at dolmens?

But it takes a special kind of dirtbag to steal a node from someone who has aggroed the mob next to the node. You either help to kill the mob (at which point, the node is fair game for both players) or you move along.
Even then, it's fair that the first person who was there and fighting the mob gets the node. Otherwise, it's still a **** move to take the node.

The game needs to change how aggro works. You shouldn't be able to steal a node right next to a mob because another player aggroed it. Aggro shoud be shared.
