The anniversary event and motif farming..... Collectors be damned!!

I have spent the best part of the last 3 months trying to complete all motif collections. Then on rolls this event and motifs I had been spending hundreds of thousands of gold on are being thrown at me just for logging in and doing my writs.
Now my problem isn't the typical "whaaa, I spent time farming and now everyone has them all", not even close. My issue is the fact that I was forced to run circles in Rkindaleft for many hours to attempt to complete Ancient Orc, which I only completed a couple nights ago, most likely due to this event.

That's all fine. But here is the problem. And I'm sure it's mainly a console problem. But I literally COULD NOT complete many collections due to RNG. I logged every day, searched many traders on the regular, and even grinded myself, to no end. If you need one or two pages on console to complete a collection forget about it. If having to pump out motifs at this events rate, just to actually give a reasonable chance of certain motifs appearing within the economy, then that economy is very broken. Farming motifs is not the quickest way to acquire them. Purchasing them is. And if you are on console, you literally have to scroll every single motif 'one by one' in the hope of seeing the magic words "use this to add to your library". You also HAVE to be on your main crafting toon. And have to be really really lucky.

We need a system that prioritize's drops based on knowledge of said motif, but this again would force us onto our main. So maybe a system that knows what achievements we have unlocked on our accounts. That's probably asking for a lot. The best means of a fix for this nonsense is a major update to the traders. If we want to view listings in pages instead of one by one, we should be able to. If we could quickly view listings by page we could much quicker glance over the thousands of motifs that are for sale.

Please make it easier for us collectors on console. Same goes for provisioning recipes and now furniture recipes. If I wanted to complete these collections. I would literally have to search each listing out of thousands, in numerous categories, in many different traders, ONE BY ONE!!

Edit; as @GilGalad mentions below. A search function for unknown recipes, motifs, etc. like is offered by the 'awesome guildstore' add-on would solve everything. Pleeeeaaase ZOS!!

Yeah there needs to be at least an option for unknown recipies, motifs, etc. in the standard guildstore search. On PC it is added by the awesome guildstore addon, so it can't be too hard to implement.

I am not sure if dynamic drop rates based on the knowledge are really the solution to the problem. Since all of them are tradeable and the droprates should be equal for the different pages, the market should equalize the individual differences in page drops. I think the problem is more that the drop rates for some motifs are way to low.

The dynamic drop rates sounds ridiculous when you have the option to search traders for unknown's. But to me it sounds legit because there is practically no other way to complete collections besides spending every single moment of my game time staring at single motif pages.

    Well then let's try that:

@ZOS_GinaBruno is it possible to add an option to filter for unknown recipies, motifs, furniture blueprints, etc. to the standard guild trader UI especially for consoles?
It should not be too complicated and would save many people a lot of time!

A simple fix for this would be that the dungeons drop tokens: trunks, urns, bags, etc dropping an additional token. Take the tokens to a vendor and purchase what you're missing.

I've always liked this function in games as it softens the RNG and allows dedicated players to finish out the pieces (or motifs) they're looking for. I was going to make a thread suggesting this, but none of my suggestions ever seem popular.

Basically, the Crown Crates to gems is the same function. Would work in game just as easily and be fun.

Or even just a basic keyword search. Even on PC, this shouldn't need addons, it's a bedrock basic function of any auction-style interface. Between the lack of decent filtering/search and the idiocy of having to run across two dozens zones to talk to 50+ NPCs to see who has <Item> at a decent price, I'm assuming that ZOS deliberately designed the Trader system to be user-unfriendly/unusable, and to discourage any actual trading.

(price/unit sorting would be nice, too. Looking at all those crafting reagents and having to scroll past all the stacks of ingredients trying to calculate in your head just how much gold that is per ingredient.....)

edit: does this "awesome guildstore" addon work for any guild vendor you walk up to, or only for the guild stores you're a member of?

Awesome guild store is one of the addons ZOS should just buy/steal/whatever and make part of the base UI on all systems. They did that (or something like it) with combat text and scrolling loot, just make it happen.

I'm on PC, so it isn't an issue, but I can't imagine even doing BASIC mat shopping on console, let alone looking for specific setpieces, motifs, or recipes.

We have been asking for some sort of search feature for a long time.

Like "unknown motifs" or even just a way to narrow it down to just one style of motifs

I know what you mean OP, hours going through lists upon lists of motifs and seeing "axes, daggers" over and over again.

Ive been hard at work grinding out motif pages for two years now. Im somewhere around 29 complete motifs right now. With certain ones near completion but are just astoundingly hard to complete because of the rarity of the motif pages. Its frustrating....Especially when youve been at certain motifs for months (Draugr) and all you have left is three pages but the same three you already collected are still dropping when it does drop (Even though you are running all three dailies on five characters).

The new event does nothing for me outside of 10k gold per character I run dailies on. I havent had a single motif page drop that I could use. Sure Ive gotten ones that were rare and hard to find. But Ive already bought them or grinded them out. I know I'll likely never catch up fully to the latest motif and that Ill always have a handful between me and the new ones. But at this point Im not sure if Ill ever truely be able to close the gap any farther. I realized the other day that I dont actually log in for content any more. Just the grind for more gold to buy motifs while farming motifs. And its no fun. I havent enjoyed the game the same way I have in the past by listening to every NPC that had a quest and taking my time to ask every question and get every response.

Zenimax always said they wanted ESO to be "different". Different can be good, and in many aspects ESO manages that. But in order to be genuinely successful "different" also has to work at least as well, and preferably, better than that which it is trying to be different from - in that regard ESO's Trade System manifestly fails.

Trading has been what I called "Zenimaxed".

That is when something tries so hard to be different that it forgets that it also needs to work.

The value of motifs always come down in price. The event merely helps it. I also think this information was available on PTS. I understand it was tested but do not know what changes occurred.

Yeah I'm with you on the guild store search feature. It baffles me as to why it's not in the game already. ZoS lazy. Everyone other MMO I played had search feature.
