Noob Cake Question

I just started ESO last week, so I am still learning the mechanics of everything, but having a ton of fun doing quests. I just now feel like I can walk around Daggerfall and not get lost. lol.
Double XP cake is fantastic (congrats on 3 years), and I am looking forward to eating some...however so I don't waste my cake...how does it work specifically? One-time use, like an XP scroll from the crown store? Eat cake once every two-hours? Eat cake once a day, for two hours get the boost?
