Can't delete characters ... Dunmers look different in game than in the creater screen ... argh

Trying to make a Dunmer. I think I've made a cute one, and then it turns out they look different in the game than they do in the creator screen. I wouldn't say this about all races ... my Breton and Nord pretty much looked the same in the game as they did in the creator, but not the Dunmers for some reason.

Anyway, I deleted a few last night because I couldn't get their look right. Now it won't let me delete at all. I read an old post that said there might be a 24 wait to delete characters after the third one, so maybe this is what's happening. Just wanted to say that SERIOUSLY SUCKS. There is no reason I can think of to limit how many characters you can delete.

Now I don't even want to play at all, because I can't make the character I want right now. I also wish there was a way to save faces so we can re-use the same faces later. That way if we DO make a nice face, it'll be saved in the creator menu so we can use it again at some point.

Just wanted to moan for a bit. In other news, that Walking Dead episode last night was pretty intense. B)

The character delete limit was introduced to stop botting. It was fairly successful when first implemented.

Ahhh. I suppose that makes sense. Thanks.

LOL. Same here. My Dunmer looked pretty in the creator, then in the game she looked like she had a fat man face. :p

You can't make a nice looking Dunmer anyway - they all suffer from bat-face.

You can always make some characters on the PTS or the other live server that you don't play on. That gives you room to make characters, take screenshots of the sliders and see what they look like in game before copying something you like to your server.

The reason for creating the delete limit was to stop botting. Those people would create toons, spam their gold selling stuff and then delete and repeat. Yes, it does suck, but that just means you need to be really sure what you want to do with your toons and make sure the spelling is the way you want as well on their names.

It's always sad when legitimate players have to pay the price for botters. I feel your struggle on getting characters right. Perhaps one day they will let us make them outside of Cold Harbour lighting.

That's a great idea. I don't really have a way to view the screenshots once I'm in the game, though, unless I e-mail them to myself and open them on my husband's computer. I suppose I could do that, though. Thanks.

Just to confirm is this as soon as you enter the game or did you put a costume on? Some costumes have issues with changing character shapes a bit and making them look quote different.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed how much of a visual difference there is between the characters during character creation compared to how they appear in game. Talk about a graphical downgrade.

I had to make mine shown above 3 or 4 times to get it right, but the last/final version, she looks the same in editor and out of it, though the lighting is slightly different. I believe there might be some certain face shapes or something that cause the change, OR the lighting inside the creator just plays that much of a role on showing you the shape of the Dunmeri face, maybe because it's a blue hue to the lighting, and dunmer skin has much of the same tone?

I've noticed this happens to my Nord too (all my Nords look identical, but they look slightly different in editor vs in game, but not a whole lot.

It's always good to take screenshots of the sliders when you're creating a character you'll want to keep, just in case something happens.

When I was making my most recent character (coincidentally also a dunmer) I got all the way through the creator, then realised I had no idea what to call him. I spent so long trying to think up a name that I got booted for inactivity and had to start over!

Then I realised after re-making him that I'd spelled the name wrong so I had to delete him and start again!

I try to find the face of a real person (or a couple people) as a guide to how I want to set the facial features up. For a Dunmer I think the females come out better if you go with more Far-Eastern Asian features, but that is just my opinion.

The thing is everybody is going to have a different opinion on what they think is attractive, so keep just trying until you are happy.

Female faces don't have the same shape in game as the customization, the designer is a higher polycount than in game.

One workaround I used was to make a test character on EU server. Once I had my character's look down, I remade him on the NA server.

For PC players there's also the PTS.

I think some of it has to do with scenery in Character Creation. It's dark, and indoors. There should be a button to "preview" your character in different parts of Tamriel.

Its easier to make a scary looking one. I gave up trying to make a good looking one. Scary + stage 4 vamp and I'm happy with her.

I feel your pain. I've had the same problem with all my khajiits. They look great in the creator but once I start playing they look terrible. My temp took over a week to get right.

Maybe they could allow us to make templates of our existing characters. Then we could use up all character spots to make a good looking char and once we have one we like we just save the model for it and then picks it for the real character.

(this would also be helpfull for roleplayers who want to make sibling characters. Or people who for some other reason want to make a new char similar to one they already have)

I think one of the issues with char creation is the angle. You always view them from like waist-height for whatever reason as you zoom out, which is an angle at which you'll basically never see them in game. A lot of the time faces look quite different zoomed in and zoomed out but you can't properly zoom out there and know what it'll look like in game :( I wish they'd let us freely spin the camera around like we can in game

    I think you're right.

But it's still (marginally) better than Oblivion where you created your character while standing in the darkest room in the entire game, and then were offered the chance to re-do them...while standing in a literal sewer pipe (and at no point in between did you get to see them outside or in natural light).
