Transmog post no.100394: ZoS, you're missing out on a money maker with this one...

People keep mentioning Rift but I've never played so I'm not sure, but it sounds a lot like outfitting in LOTRO

If ZOS stole that system and implemented it in ESO, I'd be throwing money at the crown store quite a bit for cosmetic items

    Agreed.

There's a few different ways they could implement it like by changing the actual look of the armour/weapon or having something similar to Dragon's Prophet or LOTRO whereas you have vanity slots for each item, head, chest, legs, main hand etc.

Confused by the title. You're saying "money maker." Crown store puchase = hell no.

OP is probably saying that people would be more willing to buy Crown Store Motifs if it was possible to apply the look of a known motif to a set piece.

I want it simple. Right-click, "change style to...", pick a style, a style material or Mimic Store is consumed.

I see no need to make it hard, expensive or complicated.

EXACTLY! We've been asking for this for years now.
We have the option to 'Convert to Imperial Style' already in-game and working. That simply could be extended.
It would be nice if we could by default change an item to our own racial style.
It would be nice if we could change our equipped items to an ever increasing list of styles once we fulfill some requirement (e.g. find item in-game; use an extra motif book; meet a crafting requirement; apply a skill point) allowing us to do so.

It doesn't have to be complicated, and it doesn't have to cost a real-money. Nay, it shouldn't be either of those things.
Use the system they have in place and simply expand on it.

If you can be anything, be kind.

    Biased poll is biased

Because there so so many other ways to say yes or no. Give me a break...

Even though I largely agree with much of what you're saying, your poll is blatantly biased. The answer you disagree with is worded in a way that insults anyone who chooses it.

Don't feel bad. That's a nearly-unbroken tradition on this forum.

Least it's good to know sarcasm isn't dead :)

A lot of MMOs use that system (or a variation of it); dating back to Anarchy Online (and most likely even older MMOs).

Also a bunch of MMO resently changed (or are changing - EQII last expansion in Nov) this system to save all styles in a seperate tap, without you having to keep all the gear and clothing hoarded in your bank/inventory/house anymore. Here Rift was only the first.

So yes: ZENIMAX should borrow the system from one of the other games - i dont care which, as every and single one would be great compared to having nothing.

Just DONT copy the micro-transactions of GW2 and SWTOR!

I have a bit of a different take on how a costume maker could be implemented. Armors look different with each type of material used to make them. so there are roughly 10 different looks for each motif and now there are many different motifs on top of the original ones in the game. I didn't do a precise count of each different look of each tier of each motif. But the fact of the matter is that some people are going to like the way a tier 3 medium Breton armor looks over the tier 10. And those people may want their appearance to be a tier 3 Breton armor but unless they wear far inferior armor compared to their level, that tier 3 armor look becomes obsolete and the appearance lost or resigned to low level characters.

My solution to this would be a costume maker attached to the dye station. The player wears the armor they are going to convert to a costume when they open the dye station, click the tab to make the costume and click apply and approve the making of it. Whatever clothing or armor they are wearing at that moment and what color it is dyed is the costume they get. Simple and effective in showing the many many armor styles in the game and giving players a choice in how their toon looks. Add a new tab to collection for unique costumes or just keep it all in the same costume tabs. (I would really like to see a favorites tab added to collections)

Here is where I'll lose people. ESO is there to make money. The crown store is a way of making money and I'm sure it does a good job of making money for the company. I would have two options for people to make their own costumes. The first option is for monthly subscribers. They can use the costume maker once every so often, on a timer. Say, once a day, included in their subscription. The second option would apply to non subscribers and people who wanted to change their costume more than once a day. Have a crown store costume maker token for sale for around 500 crowns. (the cost of most of the most basic costumes.) Subscribers get the option once a day. Non subscribers have the option to buy it.

The only people left out are those who complain about the crown store regardless of what's there or not. But if someone isn't going to sub, and isn't going to use the crown store, it's just another limitation of the game among the many that are already there to people who only bought the game.

That's my idea for a costume maker that I think would work well in the model ESO has. There are things that could be tweaked here and there or done differently, but the mechanics would still be the same.
