Choosing a race and meta?

Hello.
I was thinking about making a DK, and since i haven't played the ebonheart pack starting zones i was thinking about choosing one of their races.
But from the races it seems that nords are the best for tanks and dunmer (dark elfs) are the best dps. I was just wondering how strict is this? Should i really choose the race based on stats? If i want to play a magicka dps nord, would i be limiting myself?
I like the look of the nords better, dunmer look really evil even though i managed to make one look fine while playing around with the char creation. I was just wondering how much do the racials impact meta, and how forgiving would pvp and dungeons be on less than ideal races for the role.
Any insights would be appreciated.

✭You can choose to be exactly as you want to, but racial passives helps out a lot. Hell I was a nord sorc healer, and I rocked it. You do you1 -

if you want a Stamina based character, Nord is ok.
If you want a Magika based character, Dunmer is the way to goPC EU

✭✭✭For Tanks and Healers Race matters very little, but for DPS, it can impact your DPS A LOT. 10% Magicka and regen or cost reduction or other similar passives gives a lot. That's why the magicka Dunmer's Fire Damage and Max Magicka makes them the best option. Now you can play with anything. But if you want to min max, mDK Dunmer is the way to go. But idk, perhaps with morrowinds CP changes Bretons or Altmers will be more preferable for their sustain.
Also since you metioned Nords for tanks, yea technically they are a tanky race but not compared to Imperials or Argonians, both of them out perform a Nord as Tanks.0 -

Once established this, Dunmer is the best in slot for Magika Dk and not so good for Stamina morphs of the same class. (passive does not stack anymore with those)PC EU

Yes, but if i pvp and get stomped by other players over race, that wouldn't be too much fun. That is mainly my concern.0 -

Then not getting your butt kicked is what you enjoy. Then that is what you should build towards. MagDK = dark elf
TankDK = imperial
StamDK = red-guard (imo)

✭All my characters are orcs. I have now orc stamplar(dps), orc nightblade that im planning to make bomb blade, and orc dk(tank). My next character will be warden healer and yes it will be orc.

klowdy1✭✭✭✭✭Yes, play whatever you want. I got lucky when I made my viking (nord temp), but I wouldn't have cared anyway. You can always make a different character for min/max. I don't find myself struggling too often, and that is usually remedied with a drink for stam regen.0 -

✭If you have no plan on doing competitive end-game PvE (as in, competing for a place on the leaderboard), any race will do. Your build, your skills matter so much more. For PvP and casual PvE, it doesn't matter much, just don't pick Redguard magsorc or something like that.
