Conspiracy theory

A bill which allows companies to extract your private data (Browsing history etc) and sell it to third parties without asking from you (Advertisers etc) was passed in the congress today by the republicans. Doesn't this seem just a little too convenient together with the latest changes to the terms of service? I think that ZOS may want to sell the data it collects from you.
Thank Talos i didn't agree to the new terms of service yet and Mara bless the Trumptards when they finally realize what losing your privacy in the internet actually means to them. Much like absolving the affordable health care.

    First, inb4 lock.

Secondly, I like reading conspiracy theories. They're pretty insightful even though a lot of them are just assumptions.
That is also to say that there may very well be some lingering truth on certain parts of them.

Web sides like Google and Facebook does this today.
This is why you get adds for gold sellers after googling eso stuff.
The new is that ISP in the US can sell this browsing data the same way.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The bill is for Internet Service Providers, Zenimax isn't an ISP last time I checked.

Also the fact a government is doing this is pretty disgusting. For a laugh though the creator of Cards Against Humanity has said if it passes Trump he'll bug the history of congress members then publish it online, which would be a lovely slap in the face to them of why this is a horrible idea.

Any way, no politics on the forums so "IBL"

Your first mistake is picking a team in the political arena. Democrats and Republicans (with very little exceptions) are in it together, both would gladly throw you under the bus if it helps them gain more control. Your second mistake is assuming you had privacy to begin with.

For example; go to wikileaks and check out the Vault 7 leaks, or the new one Dark matter or something like that.

For the love of the eight! Stop trusting any politicians (even your Dems)! Hell don't ever trust anyone in a suit that makes a "promise" to you, because they just want to sell you on something. Whether it's "watch my broadcast," "buy this car," or "vote for me," it will always be a sales pitch.

I did notice the new TOS, but even if ZOS deleted all your info; as was stated in a recent cicada 3301 clue "everything is recoverable" on the internet.

This does change from your examples though in that it lets companies do this without smoke and mirrors and in mass sales.

Anything done previous and in leaks isn't something that any public person can just go and do without needing some shady goings on, this would mean literally anyone with the money can buy bulk private history and then do who knows what with it.

This isn't something other countries do, EU laws are very strict on privacy.

@Turelus you've got that right! It's a small difference that's more symbolic than anything. 1984 is has been real for a long time (see snowden leaks) they're just starting to be open about it.
Censorship is the newest trend, though.

Or, rather than throw insults and continue to create us vs them politics which divides and and never helps the people it's meant to.
We could all have constructive debates, help educate one another, be willing to accept we may sometimes be wrong and not have all the answers and continue to improve as a race.

If we continue to brand one another based on our beliefs and refused engage and question ourselves we will never move forward.

Glad I live in EU, where one person has no power to make such changes and if they attempted it, everyone would be at their throats and the ideas would be scrapped. The only thing I know for certain and is officially confirmed by 1st and 3rd parties (government and ISP providers - confirmed by independant pro-consumer agencies) is that ISP can only fish for suspicious activities such as torrenting from blocked illegal sites and/or visiting illegal sites that contain illicit content (i won't name it here but i'm fairly sure you know what i'm referring to), and even then they are not allowed to disclose any information or browsing histories (my provider has specifically stated that they don't even collect personal browsing history, except there are autonomous algorythms in place that detect connection attempts to sites with illegal content, but they are not accessible unless you use proxies/VPN's/TOR as they are blocked).
They issue a automated warning, first on the browser, then on a letter/e-mail and lastly comes termination of service if continued attempts to bypass (that are detected) are made. Yet they are still not allowed to disclose any information to third parties whatsoever. They are only allowed to sort it amongst themselves and the consumer, or in worst case - only with a court order (if a user is a suspect criminal or on tags/parole etc).

It also helps to configure the websites and browser - select not to send or collect data off your system or browser (and yes, it does work), or just use a VPN - they are cheap, reliable, easy to setup and for the most part 99% secure.
That will prevent any phishing attempts, data collection, monitoring and spying on you, I mean... they are there for that specific reason, and now that Trump is in power - I bet Americans will want to use them even more.

Here you won't get a knock on the door in 10 minutes if you search for "how to make a home-made bomb".

Slightly different in UK now thanks to the snoopers charter. Now any government organisation can get a full list of your visited sites without a warrant.
We let that one through without any fuss which makes me worried for all the debates over encryption in the UK right now.
