✭✭✭✭✭I have gotten it on every alt i did the event on, without even realizing that there's something special about it. here is how.
I cannot for the life of me steal the apples without being detected. even on my bosmer nighblade. so I just waited for the bounty to go away, usually by switching characters. once the bounty was gone - I would ride up to the pig, click on it (it doesn't dismount you) and then just ride through town. I didn't even realize that she would show up randomly through town as you go until today.
Caveat - every alt I did it on, either has maxed out mount, or at least some points in speed increase. I'm not sure how well it would work on baseline speed.

Agreed, going east of the city is absoutely the solution for this part of the quest, however, once I get to the top of the steps, I don't even need to go behind the inn building, I just make a beeline for the main exit at the bottom, and haven't had an issue...
...as far as stealing the apples, the only time I did it w/o a bounty was by crouching within the cart behind the bushel of apples. We'll see later today if that's the answer as well, or if it was a fluke the last time I did it...0 -

✭✭✭After three days of trying to get this on my magicdk I got it by feeding the pig and running as soon as I hint the option then going up the left staircase and going behind the buildings hugging the wall to the entrance of the town. Was annoying at first but I finally got it.0 -

Seems like you need to figure out how to do it, I did it on a Templar and a Nightblade without sneaking and simply walked her to the Jester, no idea why you're struggling.To complete the Royal Jester achievement, you need to get princess tothe jester without the Butcher seeing you. I have tried this on a non-nightblade in sneak mode and everytime I get near the exit she sees me.0 -

Exactly what I did, except I didn't jump the wall before the end gate. I pretty much went right to the planter/fountain area in the center of the town and out.
I too thought I had to stealth the whole way the first time, but the butcher sees through stealth, so nightblades don't have it easy at all. They're in fact "gimped" in a way.0 -

BergisMacBride✭✭✭✭✭I've given up trying to not be detected stealing the apples - the detection mechanism there is clearly broken - invis pots havent even worked for me - I just get the apples unstealthed and run up to a guard to clear my little bounty.
Add me to the list of those who never even knew there was an issue being caught by the butcher. Granted, all my toons, even the low level ones, have max speed mounts and rapids. I just click on the pig, mount up and race back straight through town (I've always gone to the left by default). Butcher has never even sniffed at getting close to my toons - I do hear him in the background yelling at times when I'm speed running through town, however.0 -

That's what they gave you that on screen text for. It can tell for you.
The problem with the basket is the same problem with heist chests, they unhide you when you click them and increase the detection radius so an enemy that was out of range is now in range. That's the dumb part. They ahve the tech to fix that and yet they chose to not implement it ahead of time.
BUT, we have a solution!
Just make sure you have no stolen items on you and steal it straight up and get caught. Cheap bounty and you get to keep the item you stole as it is a quest item. Lots less stress.
...or if you prefer just do those dunmer a favor and slaughter the ashlanders there for them to maximize your bounty and get your revenge. Maybe the guards will look the other way. Maybe not.
Edit:
FYI, you can do it unseen. You need to be beside the cart, north side next to the guar, in a position close enough that you won't move when you click it. Wait for the ashlanders to be as far away as they can be, only 2 patrol, and take it completely unseen even if it flashes "detected". You don't get a bounty when the witnesses are as far as possible away.
The one ashlander due south of the cart walks between the wall and the barrels, wait for him. There is another that crosses left to right and back. Wait for them to be either far right or far left, not near the center.Edited by Mystrius_Archaion on March 27, 2017 10:23PM0
