Suggestion: Prison for Cheaters

Create a in game prison where cheaters, botters and other such are put and they must spend actively spend 5 years (the time is negotiable) in game time doing hard labor for their crimes before any of their characters can be let out. The timer would stop the moment they log out and their sentence would lengthen if they do not meet the quota for mined stone (to be used to support the war effort) and because their abilities and weapons would be restricted to just one pickax for mining other players not serving hard time could go in and make their lives harder.

Edit:
The people serving a prison sentence would not be able to use any attacks or even defenses. They would have to mine one resource unit at a time and would get a random resource type, that they would have to go to a certain spot. If they go to the wrong location they are punished for giving the guards more work and do not get credit for turning in that resource and even have extra requirements added to what they have to harvest.

Other players who are not in prison will be able to go onto the walls and shoot various ranged attacks at those who are in prison causing them to drop their gathered resources and have to go back to mining.

They would have a certain quota of gathered resources they have to get during that time and if they do not meet the quota the time is extended. If they exceed the quota then they gain no benefit.

Edit 2:
The goal of this would be to create a situation where the best way they have to get their characters out of prison (yes all of their characters would be in prison) would be for them to put enough pressure on their fellow cheaters to stop cheating long enough that they are forgotten about by the rest of the players and then they can catch the proverbial carrot on a stick in front of them.

I don't see a point in spending development on time on something that would only affect cheater/botters/individuals who should be banned or have their account suspended for a time. Just ban the account/suspend it for whatever amount of time is appropriate.

A prison for people who got caught by the guards for having a bounty and couldnt pay is another thing, although probably not that good of an idea either.
May the moons watch over you all.

I only voted no because botters and script kiddies would figure out how to afk mine the stone and it would be pointless. Perma-bans, social bans, temporary bans, sure.

How about ZOS just starts enforcing its existing rules and bans botters/cheaters. And this time, bans them permanently, not letting them come back if they ask nicely or just buy a new account and use their old names with special characters.

Interesting idea, but IMHO cheaters should be banned from the game, permanently. Hence, hard to create an in-game environment for them that I would agree with. Just my $0.02

Lineage2 did this a long time ago. PK's (player killers) who got caught and killed by guards were put in a prison of sorts (small dark room) with other PK's where they could slaughter each other and taste their own medicine. It was only for a short time (15 minutes or so) but it is enough to stop someone from doing a rampage and make them realize that there are consequences.

Real life prison for cheaters yes. Game prison for cheaters? Pffft like they'd care, they'd just make a new account to cheat on.

Except that its actually difficult to escape real prisons. Being banned is temporary, even when it's "permanent."

Just perma ban and hardware ban them. There is no need to waste server space on cheaters/botters.

No, if someone breaks the ToS just ban them, temp bans then full bans.

Jails and such are just gimmicks to make people think it's "cool" but does nothing but take up time which could be used to develop real bot detection tools or just sorting through all the mails.

While the idea is funny, they shouldn't waste resources on scum.

Permanent bans should be applied to botters and AFK rubber band controller scrubs.

Punish them and enforce TOS penalties. Why give any notoriety or pixels to them at all?

While the methods need to be noted by ZOS, cheaters should simply be forgotten about. My guess is most of them do it for attention in the first place, so deny them what they crave.

What a strange world this is that we have a thread suggesting ZOS actually create content for cheaters.

Only in ESO would this seem remotely normal.

I loved the "dunce cap" idea in GTA V Online for cheaters and bad sports. An ESO themed dunce cap would be phenomenal.

Infinity Ward created a separate server just for cheaters. Instead banned you, they put you there. Cheating wasn't so fun anymore when you can only play with it against other cheaters.

That's what ESO should do, simply replicate the entire game on a different shard just for cheaters, you get caught, you play there...that's worse then being banned because you can still play, but not with your friends. Fingerprint their hard ware and drive seriel number, etc for good measure so they get put there even if they create another account.

This will handle that issue. Cheaters should never prosper nor ever get to benefit from their deeds. Denying what they want most is far better then banning them.

Nah, that much effort for that kind of criminal scum?

I say, instead just assing them a fine to be paid in crowns and lock their account until they pay up. The current limited time suspension is worthless, but making them pay real money in fines might serve as some deterrent...

That prison idea on the other hand...
...that I would much rather see as revamp of the justice system!

Like, have your bounty no longer deteriate automatically (and instead being divided into alliance specific bounties, so the pact guards in your hometown are no longer looking to arrest you for all the despicable things you did over in the aldmeri dominion - but if you go back, the dominion guards certainly will remember your face from their "most wanted" lists...), but if caught and unable/unwilling to pay the fine, having to "serve time", like ten minutes in the stocks (with an chance to throw rotten fruit and mudballs for passerbys, including other player characters), or for more severe infractions perhaps a public whipping (and lingering health debuff for an hour or more afterwards)...

And if your bounty is high enough... you get thrown into a "prison isle" public dungeon with their skills and equipment locked (aka, unarmed, and wearing only prison rags) where you have to work it off by breaking rocks (stamina characters) or sewing jute sacks (magica characters, can't really expect that limp-wristed mage boy to swing a hefty pickaxe, right?).

With prison clichee random encounters where your speechcrafts and such might come in handy... "persuade" that sadistic guard to pass you by, use your thieves guild contacts to get on decent standing with the boss of the prison gang (and possibly even unlock a hidden vendor... "Yah, shuure, mah cousin vinnie ovah in Sentinel can set yah up wif de finest gear fell offa wagon..."), avoid an ambush with a dark brotherhood practiced stare (or use your training to shank them with a dull spoon... the dreaded "spoon of woe"), or use your "intimidation" skills to preserve your modesty in the showers... (or get a very special title if you fail...) :p

And of course a hidden "jailbreak" quest for those who want to go on adventuring, bounty be damned. With a secret success chance that depends of how many of the "gather all stuff we need to get out" miniquests you find and finish... and yeah, meaning if you fail, you get thrown in right back, with an big added bounty to boot...

And there could be more rewards for achievements there... a "shackles" disguise that shows your character bound but breaks when entering combat for those who got time in the stocks or "whip scars" option for those who got to the whipping post... and special tatoo unlocks for various "prison isle" achgievements, a "ex-con" title for those who work off their bounty, and "prison rags" costume and "escapee" tittle for any who manage to flee...
