Can't even cancel Sub without agreeing to third parties.

I logged in to cancel my sub and before I could cancel my sub I had to agree to your invasion of my privacy and distribution of my personal email address.

Cancel_zpsqob7y55t.png

This is seriously messed up. How can it be legal to demand that we give up our privacy to you before we can cancel our sub?

Yes I am aware of the OPT out and have already done so. Thank you to everyone who has tried to post that information but I have already done so. This thread is about the fact that the agreement precedes the ability to cancel your subscription.

Well it's not as bad as all the drama llamas made out.
Hey guys, just to clear things up here, we will never sell your information and there are no plans to add in-game advertising to ESO. The updated privacy policy gives us the ability to better provide you with more personalized updates and new information on the game.

No one asked for that. They are not doing it to better provide us with anything. They are doing it to better provide for themselves. If it was for us they would have given us an immediate option. How does them giving out my email address to unknown third parties serve me? It doesn't. That quote is corporate speak to convince people to swallow this bitter pill.

Here is what their statement should say.

"We will be collecting your data and giving that data out to strangers along with your private email to third parties that may get hacked which will result in the distribution of your information and email all across the internet."

You mean options like the opt out emails and the tick boxes on the accounts page about advertising?
If you don't want to access you account page to unsub submit a ticket in game asking for it.

Jesus dude. Just cancel your sub and never come back to their website. They're not coming into your home through the game, they're not kicking your dog while you're at work. They're selling your surfing habits IF you use their website. That's it. Accept it and move on with your life. Or just opt out and not have a heart attack.

You should be able to opt out via email and then proceed with cancellation upon getting confirmation of that action. I opted out and got a response within 48 hours.

You read where you can opt out, RIGHT?

Your opting out prevents further sales of personal information, but not whatever they've already done with it, as per the policy language.

I hit agree and they distribute my email to unknown parties. That is my primary account email. That is an absurd request just to be able to cancel your sub. They are coming into my home. They are sending my information gathered outside their game, with no relevance to their game to outside sources.

Maybe you should be a little more concerned about what is being done with your information. All it takes is one of these unknown third parties getting hacked and now my email is distributed all over the internet.

Email addresses are the only thing it needs to access an account, if those third party providers get hacked (which most do) then your email is leaked. I do not like my email especially my primary being given out because this encourages social engineering "I use to play this game and use this email address but after being away because of X reason I forgot my password" then insert sob story. As a person who is taking IT security it usually starts with this then input story.

Edit: Best thing is usually third parties will not divulge that they've been hacked. I looked up my previous email and found out my email was compromised by around 10 sites that I had never went to.. I wonder why.

Email addresses should not be given out unless explictily needed e.g. account verification. Encryption is a thing but most people can get through it, I'm more than positive there's stories of people bypassing AES.

Finally a genuine poster. I have had my identity taken when I was 17, nearly every employer of mine has been hacked and my identity distributed. I eventually just froze my credit because of it.

    Hey bud,

I think you should call this number and explain to them your issue. I believe they can cancel your sub over the phone without you accepting the draconian privacy policies

    (410) 568-3200

Or you could send a certified letter to

    Customer Support
200 International Cir, Cockeysville, MD 21030

    or email support.

All of these will let you get out without agreeing to their terms.

And everyone giving this man crap for not wanting to agree to something, grow up. He is a grown man who doesn't want his information shared and if he wants to cancel his account without sharing it, he damn well should be able to.

Oh, I understand - believe me. In fact, I would agree with you really. I simply mean to say that, because a sizeable percentage of people do, they are somewhat used to this sort of thing. That complacency emboldens other companies to adopt a similar approach.

After all, if the majority of people don't care when FB does it - would they necessarily even notice a trimmed down version of the same behavior here?
