Third person.....because anything else hurts my head.

I really want to play this game in first person.... I would prefer to play first person.

But when I used to play it regularly it was just dying and having no idea why... I can't see the red circles in first person.

I am trying to do tanking in first person now, since dying to red ciricles is less likely but then I can't see when allies are in trouble.

It just seems MMOs aren't meant to be played in first person.

Mostly 3rd but I go 1st when scrounging around for Dwemer containers or stealing stuff. It's good for checking who can see you.

When there are little cutscenes taking place or I am just looking around the environment, or fishing, I like to do it in first person. I like how it feels better. If I am doing anything else such as quests or dungeons, definitely third person.

This is the first MMO that I've ever played. I started playing RP and dungeon crawl type games with Dungeon Master by FTL on the original Atari ST in the '80's, I got my first taste of 1st person play and I immediately got hooked. Since then and all the way through Skyrim, I have been known to play RP games solely on the basis of their 1st person perspective, and I have passed right over other games that were exclusively 3rd or iso, etc. In fact, that's exactly the primary appeal that drew me to the TES stand-alone games to begin with, starting with Oblivion, then going back to Morrowind and then onward to Skyrim. The Might & Magic series was coming to an end, and I was looking for something to replace it when I found OB. You could say I came for the 1st person, and I stayed for the fun. For me, 1st person is the most natural view of a game, it gives me a sense of immersion, like I'm right in the game, because it matches our own normal vision IRL, and there's nothing to have to get used to.

Anyway, by the time I first started playing ESO, I was a strict 1st person player, and anything else felt stilted and uncomfortable. For quite a while, I played ESO exclusively in 1st person. But I was hearing from many other players, that you just hadda play 3rd person, to be able to play well at all, especially within group dungeon dynamics and PvP. In fact, I was hearing that some experienced or "elite" players would ignore you at best, and mock you at worst if you were a 1st person player. Eventually, when I started dipping my toes into a little bit of group dynamics with my fellow guildmates & a bit of PvP on my own, I forced myself to play 3rd person. It was a struggle at first. But now, I play mostly 3rd person after having gotten at least partially used to it. I still don't enjoy it, like I did with 1st person, but I can see the need for it, in this kind of cooperative as well as confrontational gameplay environment.


PS: take a look at the voting numbers at the top of this page...at the time that I posted, it was 78% 3rd person.

i'd use first person more but as i'v complained about in several past thread posts aura glows fill the screen and many staves are held like bloody javalins

A mix of both because i think the world looks amazing in 1st person and reminds me of other ES games . that said 80% 3rd person

Notice most of the 'mixed' are all third person is combat. Play first person if you want, dont join non-friend groups. Ez peezy

I find it quite unsettling in first person. I don't know what it is but its not like Oblivion or Skyrim. Maybe I can try mucking with the head bob setting or something.

I was playing Skyrim in 1-st person because game was a slow action.
I play ESO in 3-rd person because game is a fast action.
And because I like to watch my character running, it lets me immerse deeper into action.

I also did vma in 1st person just because bored and wanted to see how hard it would be... it's not that hard tbh, stage 7 mushrooms are tricky though

Seriously, the game looks awesome in 3D but it really shines when you run in 3D and 1st person.
Some of the dungeons are spectacular!


PS: I do run a mod that allows me to disable the cross-hair as it is rendered in the 2D UI plane and looks completely out of place in 3D.

@SirAndy, how do you get 3D to work well with ESO? Are you using the fix from helixmod site or something else? I have a 4K 2D monitor now that I mainly use but still have my 1080p 3D Vision monitor to play around with 3D from time to time. But, I read on helixmod site that the Homestead patch broke their fix. I tried ESO early on in 3D but at the time the fix only supported DX9 and there were various issues with the DX9 version of the game.

There is a mod called Dominoid's Immersive Things (http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info805-DominoidsImmersiveThings.html) which allows you to automatically switch from 1st person to 3rd person when entering combat. I have tried it some and like the concept but found the constant switching distracting, especially in delves/caves.
