Mannequins in housing -- an outstanding idea

Several posts have suggested adding mannequins/dummies to housing. I think that's a GREAT idea.
  • Given the need to wear dropped gear rather than crafted -- at least in part -- it's hard to display the cool armor you can craft. Mannequins could solve that problem.
  • Mannequins are a way to introduce a SMALL amount of storage to housing. Whatever the reasons are for not having more commodious storage in houses, mannequins might not violate them.
  • Mannequins might be the easiest way for multiple characters to share our best/most valuable gear. So coming home for a quick-change might be a great reason to keep visiting our houses.

Perhaps they could come in two sizes -- full-body and head-shoulders-only. The latter, of course, would be ideal for monster gear.

I don't know how hard it would be to code this up. There certainly are mannequins in the game now, most obviously in the Thieves Guild quest line and upstairs at the Vile Manse. But I suspect that those use some quick-and-dirty shortcuts that wouldn't work in a robust version. So I'm not holding my breath.

But mannequins would be really, really, really nice to have.

Glad someone posted it already. I still remember my times in Skyrim where armies of walking mannequins waited for me, when I entered my home. You could not get totally rid of that behavior even with mods.

I think it'd be an awesome feature. Adds some functionality (storage) to housing. Right now its all kind of fluff. Could easily limit the number of mannequins you can have per house to ensure it's not abused.

I never played Skyrim -- just Morrowind, and even that on an XBox.

But I'd be happy with a nice static mannequin that basically was a specialized way to store/display gear.

To fix a post in a thread, poke the gear icon in top right corner of your post, to fix a post that starts the thread(I think it works for title too?) go out to the forum page where your thread is shown and poke the gear icon next to it. At least that's how it used to work :p

Far as actual thread goes, I'm pretty indifferent to housing but it doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the gear icon on the first post, even though I am on my others in this thread. It would be weird if one couldn't edit even the text of one's opening post in a thread, so there must be something simple I'm overlooking ...

I liked the display dummies and wall mounted shield and weapon racks in Skyrim and would like to see them in ESO. Maybe they are something that will come if we ever get storage in homes - that was the best thing about housing in Skyrim for me.

    Why not... both?

I love the idea! Would love to show off some gear while I'm not wearing it!

when you are looking to edit the original post/thread title, the little gear icon isn't in your post, it's actually to the left (or right?) of your post title.. which is above your post :)

Francis has made the migration to the official forums from TF! I never thought I would see the day!

But yes, mannequins would be great. Especially for those special sets of gear that you spent a crap load of time and resources on that look GREAT...and then you get a new set of gear anyways...I would love to be able to have a meaningful place to put these sets that I otherwise would throw in the bank or decon.

I don't think anyone else suggested, but maybe also add a feature that lets you change the pose of the mannequin, idk how difficult that would be to implement

I completely agree. This would be a great way to allow people to continue collecting all those gearsets they recently released without compromising sales of ESO+ memberships. (i.e. There would still be enormous value in having that crafting bag.)

Also there is some low level gear that looks fantastic, but is totally unusable at CP160+. It would be a great way to appreciate some of these gear models.

I think it would be a great idea. I know FFXIV is adding them in a patch during their next expansion. Plus i feel putting your weapons and armor on displays is one of the cooler features of the other TES games. Im all aboard.

This is a great idea. Also a transmog system that allowed you to change style of BiS gear to whatever style u want would add diversity to look of builds and allow you to wear your fav styles into battle.

If you could mount swords and shields, might as well add mounting trophy fish on your wall as well. Unless, you already can. Still haven't found that option yet, as my fish are on my bar, not even on plates. Just sitting there...stinking up my bar.

But if they do this, I'm sure pvpers will then want the ability to mount other players' heads on the wall. Or stakes, if they favor a vampire build ;)

I would like furniture feel useful and I have an idea how. All houses will have a shared inventory, which you will be able to access from some of your furniture.
They will have builtin filters, chests will show all items, cupboards will only show your food, crates and boxes will show your furniture, armor and weapon stands will show your armor and weapons (which you will be able to equip to them from their inventory), you will be able to equip books to bookcases from their inventory...
An npc will sell you inventory space for gold or crowns (like the npc who upgrades your bag space) and it will be gated behind your first house of each type (up to 10 for free room, 20 for your first appartment ...).
    Sorry for my English.
