Just remember that looking to be offended is kind of like looking for a fight. You're pretty much guaranteed to find it, especially if you're obsessively looking everywhere for it.

... If enough people stopped coming to the internet to cry about the mean things they hear and just ignored the offender, the world would be in much better shape and with fewer "bullies". With no one to hear or care there will be not much point trying to spew hatred, trust me. Snowflakes keep feeding the trolls with tears though, so we have this.
Sorry, but that's not true at all. Bullies don't go away and stop bullying just because people don't complain on the internet, or because they don't have "tears." Bullies just keep on bullying. They don't care.

Until they get their ass kicked.

Bullies are mentally weak persons, they will bully only people that seem weak, so part of the fault is on you, iv'e been bullied sometimes when i was younger, as i grew stronger both physically and mentally guess what, no more bullies.

Tall, skinny, red hair, I had the tri fecta going so got loads of it in school. I learned quick how to talk back, made them feel and look stupid. Gave one a bloody lip in the middle of class. No more bullies after that.

Found the bully in the thread... :astonished:

Here comes the people defending this type of behavior saying you can just block/ignore. You tell a bullied kid in school to just ignore bullies? To walk another way to the cafeteria so he won't bump into the bullies? By just ignoring you're making this type of behavior acceptable and others may start behaving the same way.

Ummm no. You hand them a warning, if done again, you give them the permaban! If your parents wasn't able to raise you right you have no business playing a game with thousands of other people.

@andreasranasen Reporting is telling the teachers (zos) to get the 'bully' in trouble, muting is... you can't do it in real life, it literally stops you from seeing anything the person says, with no effort on your part.

Some people never grow up, that goes for bullies and bullied...

I receive 5-20 messages a day with "stop doing that" "you're a cheater I cant see your skills" "it's not possible to hit that much" "I know why u called monkey you scrub" "you're bad at this game (he got 1v6 then proceeded to say that)"

I guess it's just Internet and it really depends who you are and what you do, solo players usually always receice hatemail because people hate to understand that they lost in a situation thats it was in their favor.

But I've never seen racism stuff, I'm proud to say that my server never had racism or bully stuff never, it's all about you and they don't generalize I guess that we're lucky.

Bullies in the adult world are usually just referred to as criminals. Gangbangers, abusive spouses, terrorists, muggers, etc...

    With ONE other exception:

I would also categorize bullies as people who seek extreme retribution for relatively small sleights due to a rampant victim complex.

You know, people who want to get you fired from your job, or otherwise ruin your life, because you committed a "micro-aggression" or some *** like that.

Bullies come in many flavors, and they always think they're morally right, toting that "victim" card. :|

That being said, being insulted by a random stranger on the internet is nothing compared to actual bullying.

    What was the quote?

"When fighting monsters, be careful not to become one yourself."

Has any one suffered racist remarks, comments, sexual comments, sexist comments. If so what did you do about it. And was the matter resolved ?

The reason I ask this is that a close friend of mine has been pvping a lot. And as a result he receives a lot of racist comments to say the least. He is not the only one, people suffer from a variety of issues. Ausburgurs syndrome. Self confidence. Interacting with others as not feeling accepted or being ridiculed due to mental state. Where certain players do not see the funny side as there health does not compute the humour eg telling a player he is not good to put politely and socialy uninteractable. But that player takes it literally that the person who made the comment that they are correct which leads them to be depressed and feel they are not socialy acceptable.

    Reference to mentaly challenged
    Reference to ancestors
    Reference to slave trade
    Reference to sexuality
General moral damaging comments. He has logged his concerns and awaits the result if any. But what about whispers in chat how are they noted, reported

This seems to be common in pvp. Especially when a player is doing well. To give a example another friend became emp. All he got was whispers of threats and whispers of tellung him to do harm to himself

I ask is this not acceptable and what can be done eg whispers as this seems to be on the increase and has a effect on players moral and questions there whole playing of the game. These guys that receive theses comments are nice guys so why I ask

Please add comments and thoughts as I belive this is a big topic in online gaming eg tamriel one

    Thank you in advance

The one thing I dislike about the ignore feature, is that sure you can ignore them, but the player you ignore can still see and respond to all your comments in chat. It's one feature that keeps me from blocking/ignoring people, as I expect the type of people I have blocked/ignored are the same type of people who know I have them blocked and will respond to me in zone/say knowing fully well I can't see what they are saying to/about me.

Its a shame this is happening, i have to admit i don't come across people like that except once when i heard one young guy maybe 13 years old saying N word and swearing towards random people in area chat in deshan .. so i got onto the mic and i told him " you do realize you can get permanently banned account for the things you are saying right? " and he said " ohh really? im sorry .... he stooped swearing and then he said he is scared of my deep voice and ran off " :D

you know why he ran away ? " BECAUSE IM BATMAN "

But joke aside racism and all of the bullying ect should be 3 day banned if evidence is provided

PVP and /zone are way worse in terms of racism and general abuse than before, but then, so is basically everything else right now. People have been afraid for a long time to let the worst of themselves show, but we've entered a period where our society has decided it's worse to call out racism and abuse than to be racist and abusive, that it's worse to take offense than to give offense, and that there's nobility in not caring who you hurt.

It's said, "This, too, shall pass." But that doesn't help much. I'd say /report them, because they're generally toxic and bad for the community and the whole experience, but that solution only goes so far.

OP, the only other advice I can give you and your friend is this: When someone engages in racism, sexism, or other bigotries to try to hurt you, try to shake it off by remembering that that person has just revealed himself to utter scum and, thus, their opinion is without value.

Report? LOL! Like if ZOS would do something. I had reported several times people saying racist things, moral attacks, etc., and ZOS never did anything. You can see those players our there, in PvP mostly, still attaking people freely.

Reporting in this game doesn't exist.

In all honesty, ESO has a much friendlier community than any other MMO I've played.

I mean sure, but that's a pretty low bar to clear.

I think the problem is pervasive across the entire gaming community. MMOs are one of the last safe spaces left for bigot snowflakes who melt upon contact with other's opinions. Maybe if they were banished to their own server we could save their delicate fee-fees and prevent them from lashing out at real people.

I don't see as much of it in ESO as in other games, but there are certainly still a few individuals roaming around who haven't quite caught on yet that they aren't a good fit for the ESO community. Report when you can and let the gamemasters and others take care of the problem. You can also talk about it and let them know that their attitude and comments aren't appreciated and aren't protected under the TOS. Really up to you on how to approach it, but don't feel the need to ignore it. It won't go away no matter what you do so you might as well take a stand where you can.

While you could go out and try to ban every mean person, you won't really make any difference. This isn't exclusive to ESO mind you. What you need to do is learn to deal with these comments and how to handle the situations. Ignore the people who just want a fight and to not feed into their hate. If you keep up your own good spirit you will hopefully spread that and make a difference.

Yep. I had a bully all through junior high, and every year I became a more and more bitter person because of him. I was scared to death of my upcoming freshman year of high school, so I finally decided to take control of the situation. You know what I did? That summer I worked out every day, and when I came back to school, the first time he picked on me I put him in a headlock and punched him in the face until a teacher broke us up.

    Nobody ever bullied me again.

The online world of anonymity is great for those people with any sort of unsocial attitude and I think we have to develop thick skins, for our own benefit. Most places I go in ESO have someone using text chat to abuse, harass or complain about someone - whether calling someone names, accusing people of cheating or fraud, or picking on them for them or their characters features, ethnicity or sex.

I turned area voice chat off almost immediately when I started playing the game and was happy in my own little world until text chat came to console. It would have to be the most intrusive and obnoxious tool in the game and there is nothing I can do to be more 'selective' about what I want to see except to turn it off.

It would be nice to not see sales pitches or slanging matches between other players when I want it on to communicate with guild mates or other members of my group who don;t have mic's. I hope ZOS can do something about creating 'text' channels so we can use it without having to put up with the toxic stuff that often fills it now.

You shouldn't be on the internet if you take what people say seriously when they're trying to offend you, let alone a MMORPG.

The only opinion that matters online is yours, it doesn't matter what anybody behind a computer screen, half way across the world thinks. If you believe that we, as human beings, have the right to judge one another then you've already lost.

To also clear things up, there really is no such thing as a "bully". You are the one that creates the bully by empowering them. Take away power from a "bully" and what have you got?
