Vet ICP am I missing something?

RosenrotWolf
I was using the group finder for vet ICP on my healer. First group I joined kicked me after 3 failed attempts at the first boss. I was dying to the harvester and was trying to keep myself and them alive while they were all focused on the main boss. I asked them to kill the harvester and I was told to "stfu kid" and promptly kicked. Sooooo am I missing something? Do you not kill the harvester? Am I supposed to just be a healing god and heal us through her and the adds assault?

three failed attempts at the first boss

Failure to that boss is not the healer's fault. And you definitely kill the harvester -- unless, of course, your team's DPS is high enough to burn down the boss before the harvester and other adds make trouble for you. Three failed attempts says this group was going for the high-DPS burn strategy without it's most crucial component, high DPS. Trust me, getting kicked saved you from a miserable run.

It's way easier to kill the harvester, especially since most pugs don't exactly have op godmode deeps. Besides that, it goes way better if tank taunts harvester and tries to turn her away from others and bash her heavy(the latter anyone can do, remember, those pretty waves wrecking you are interruptable and have like 1-2 second long tell to them).
Personally I also don't really like doing it on door like many people do, it ends up in a giant clusterf...thing and harvester's waves are absolutely deadly in that narrow space. If you do do it in the corridor you're generally better off rolling in the room as soon as the harvester spawns(besides the harvester herself, there's also a boss tell, he'll say something in regards to that) and killing everything there.

That aside, it does sound like you were better off without that group, for attitude alone if nothing else ;)

The Harvester's "Subjugation" attack is the most dangerous thing in that fight. And even if you kill the boss, you still have to kill Harvester. Side-stepping Subjugation is a lot easier when you only have to worry about Harvester because boss is dead but if you cannot burn that boss really, really fast, you are better off ult-bombing the Harvester and concentrating on killing her, then go back to boss. Just because someone saw a video on YouTube of a Top 0.001% group burning the boss does not mean that is "the way" to approach the fight for all groups.

When I tank that boss I keep him by the portal where the adds spawn. Lets me easily grab the Harvester, too, and makes sure the DPS hit the adds (including Harvester) with any AoEs cast on the boss.
When I dps it, I gage how long it takes to get to the Harvester spawn, and usually end up dropping the boss to focus the Harvester to ensure we finish. He can really mess up a group, even on normal.
When I heal, if it's a PUG, I really hope people know what they are doing there. :D

My guild has tried the fight in different locations, and staying by the portal is always the cleanest, regardless of the group.

You didn't do anything wrong asking for the Harvester to go. That group just didn't know what they were doing.
Why be normal when you can be better?

Don't feel bad. After 3 wipes on first boss, I've a strong feeling the rest of your group was not going to beat ICP anyways.

How were they doing with the adds? If you were getting overrun, they weren't doing good job clearing stuff out.

My favorite strategy for this fight is to take the boss back through the door that you entered (it won't reset)... as a tank you kinda want to block the door with the boss; this will stack all the adds behind the boss (1 or 2 may get through, but they shouldn't be a threat). Usually the boss will be nearly dead by the time the harvester comes around. Here is a video of the technique:

There were always lots of adds. The tank would solely tank the boss while dps focused the boss as well leaving me to try and heal them and myself while trying to kill adds as I'm being chased by them. They would burn the boss to 1/3 health before the harvester showed up. By then there were to many adds attacking me plus the harvester Im surprised I stayed alive as long as I did.

That. Tank in one corner behind door, rest opposite side, lightning staff heavy attacks and aoes down and everything that comes through the door melts.

Don't run unless you get the boss on you or something, it rarely helps. You can outheal crazy amounts of damage by just spammity spamming Springs - and keep in mind Springs can be blockcast too, so it's possible to spam it even in very damage intensive situations. You can also drop a Nova or Barrier or something for extra damage reduction if it gets really bad.

The ads spawn as boss drops lower on health and they spawn in quite large numbers so generally there always will be some up/coming, but the dps have to keep the aoes going so the team doesn't get overrun. Since ads spawn on health % it's going to get REALLY messy if instead of harvester dps focus boss - it will make even moar ads spawn while both harvester and boss are still up. It can work if you have crazy enough dps to finish boss before the ads+harvester rek you, but it's not that common. Little ads will die with boss, Harvester will stick around anyway.
