    3) If you cannot for some reason stand over the choice node you forfeit your right of claim to said node.
    4) Do not pick a node what has a person of some close distance to node unless individual remains still for more than 12 seconds.
    5) Do not get pizzy when node is lost to fellow farmer. There are many nodes aplenty and you are being a foolish silly smallmind to get mad at just a game.
    6) Give benefit of doubt to other node farmers. Sometimes they do not see you because spacing off bored doing mechanical repetitious node picking and you might have been in their camera blind spot.

Anything anyone might like to add go ahead.

Not covering barrels and chests. Not because it isn't node picking. More because I lack info about the respawn dynamics of chests, barrels, sacks, etc. Not sure if you must take all from them to respawn or not? Not sure if a barrel with a lemon in it, once removed, will chance a recipe/valuable or if it will always respawn a lemon in it?

    4. Refer to option 1.

These posts make me wish there was a full-realized justice system. Right now (well, aside from the fact that you can't actually kill me unless you and I duel) this is just a really weak justification for behavior that other players might find offensive.

It sounds tough without being tough at all. I remember in another game, there was a player who justified his (or her) behavior on the basis that she was "roleplaying" a thief. Fine, was the community response, then we should have the ability to punish you. We should be able to attack you, kill you, and take stuff from your inventory.

If that can't happen, then you're not really roleplaying a thief, are you? You're just taking advantage of a poorly developed game mechanic to justify your behavior, while enjoying the freedom of actions without consequences.

Don't underestimate the number of people that want to play a "Thief" or "Assassin" without any of the consequences.

The community pushback against any sort of risk with real teeth (and a similar increase in potential rewards) is stunning.

I love the "shaming-mewling" in this thread about "common courtesy," "ethics" and other appeals to inapposite abstractions.

When you are farming nodes, all the nodes you can get to first are yours. The end. It has nothing to do with any very strained, high-minded abstractions from mismoralizing nincompoops and fanbois. But it -is- funny to see you rationalizers try.

That said, there -are- a handful of d-chy behaviors with respect to gathering/farming. Most have been mentioned already, such as getting a node where someone is fighting or not looting the whole thing. My pet peeve is high level players putting on their speed suits and picking the three lowbie islands clean because the lowbies there are slow. Those lowbies need the mats far more than you do, CP600. D-chy...

But that isn't "unethical," it isn't a matter of "basic courtesy," nor "manners," nor any other abstraction. It's just being a jerk...IMO..., and it's entirely -subjective-. Stop appealing to some "code of ethics" that doesn't exist in the COC or TOS.

    Exactly this.

I used to get my tail feathers ruffled when somebody would swipe a chest or node on me, heck I even sent out some pretty nasty messages over it in the past.

But after all these years of ESO, I've learned. Not everybody out there is aware of your internal moral code about node sharing. Not everybody out there sees what you see - based on their connection. It's happened to me before that I see a chest - go to press it - and then all of a sudden a player fades in right in front of me, already on the chest. No matter how you try to avoid it - its going to happen sometimes.

If somebody swipes a node or chest from you, just move on to the next and let it go. That's the real best node stealing etiquette.

If you're going to farm for nodes, find a low population zone where you won't be swooped in on - or atleast it's less likely. Personal favourites are the small started islands; Stros M'Kai, Bleakrock - and the Khajit one I can't remember the name of, to the south of the map. Reason is because the only people you will see in those zones are generally low levels - meaning they have limited inventory and a limited understanding of what nodes are for. I watch players walk by them all day because it means nothing to them and the small size of the maps seems to come bundled with a faster resource refresh rate, though this could just be perception.

What I love more is when people try strenuously to offer high-minded abstractions and misuse prefixes in an attempt to place value and judgement upon others discussing a topic in an open forum. The punch line comes when they offer their own that is not inapposite with the originals under critique as they take a modicum of diligence to redefine the terms as to appear above that sort of thing.

This reminds me of when I was solo killing a world boss for a thieves guild treasure trove. This was the only reason I was killing the boss.

A below level 50 character rolls up and loots my trove...and then proceeds to fight the world boss. Lets just say I was a little bit beyond miffed.

Well I commence to run away and drop aggro, the other player dies. 2 seconds later:

"WTF, why did you wuss out and run we had that!"

My response: "Shouldn't have looted my treasure trove." - No response.

    My rules for nodes/chests:
    • If I see it and there isn't a fight going on nearby, it's fair game.
    • If I see someone fighting a mob, I join in to help them. When the fight is over, it's anybody's fair game.
    • If there are multiple people in an area, I pretty much just run on. There are a huge number of nodes/chests in the game and finding a "secret stash" of them is as simple as just wandering around the corner.

But I know there are players who don't follow these simple rules.

Nodes have no ownership. Just take everything in it. Sucks to harvest an enchanting node and find that it only has a ta.
Yeah, everyone taking everything would make all things a lot more pleasant for anyone else. After all, you can always destroy the stuff you don't care for...

Otherwise, just don't be a jerk. Don't take a node someone else is fighting over. Don't try to race someone to a node, if you spot them being closer then you, just move on, get a head start to the next node. (doesn't count for those who just stand around before a node - take it or loose it) And don't bother getting worked up if someone does one of those, just shrug and move on. There's always more nodes, those things respawn after all... ;)

Same rules apply to treasure chests BtW.

Fiord's and jailbreaker sets, The Steed with divines, Windrunning and Rapid Manuever.

My toon runs faster than your horse, so you can be sure that while you're fighting, I'm gonna steal "your" node.

I guess you didn't comprehend that my issues with node behavior are -subjective-, not objective. In case it's still not clear, my -opinions- about node behaviors don't make fallacious appeals to some mystical -objective- standards. Good luck improving that comprehension.

    2. Don't leave anything in the node, it can't respawn if you do. Take all or nothing. (On PC there are addons that destroy junk so it doesn't clog inventory)
And I don't particularly mind that people leave worms or ta runes. It's indicative of a lack of consideration, but maybe they aren't aware that nodes don't respawn unless emptied...
    Linaleah wrote: »
that said, yes, jesus christ PICK UP ALL YOUR STUFF FROM NODES AND CHESTS. you can delete it out of your inventory, but when you just let them sit there, partially unpicked - they don't have a chance to respawn and you are ruining it for EVERYONE. I understand space issues, I really do. delete crap you don;t want. ffs.
    1) Take EVERYTHING from the node so it can respawn for later use.
    1a) TAKE. EVERYTHING.

You don't understand the respawn mechanic. The despawn/respawn timer starts after the first person to "open" a node (and the same goes for chests) "closes" it. Whether that person removes everything from the node or leaves some stuff makes exactly zero difference in how long it takes for that node to respawn.

This has been confirmed by devs on the forums, and can be very easily tested by anyone in-game. All you have to do is go to an out of the way location, open a node without removing anything, and wait by it to see how long it takes to despawn and then respawn. Then do the same thing, but take everything out of the node. The amount of time for the respawn will be similar (although not exactly the same, because the timer is based on a number of variables that we can't control in an in-game scenario, like zone population, how many other nodes of the same type there are in the zone, etc).

In short: leaving things in nodes hurts nobody, and it in fact benefits the people coming along who might actually want the worms, or crawlers, or whatever got left behind.

No it doesn't benefit me because I take time to go over to it open it and find out what I'm looking for isn't there. Not one person opens nodes to just farm worms or crawlers. There is no justification to leave stuff in them. These are excuses to make people that do this to feel better about themselves.

If in wanted worms or crawlers I would go to the prison and farm the cages in the room where Lyris talks to the Prophet. You are wasting others time by leaving these things behind, regardless of how fast they spawn.

It speaks volumes about character when concepts such as courtesy, values and morals are considered high-minded abstractions. These are things I was taught in my childhood. And, in turn, taught my children at a very young age. I think the point has been made in this thread. There are those who can justify just about any action or behavior. I have observed this philosophy before. It is extremely prevalent in one particular sub-population: prison inmates. Enough said.

Yeah, had a guy in Rivenspire steal a chest from me when when I was trotting to it. He went zooming by me on his new Apexis mount and grabbed the chest, I said something in zone chat not because I was angry, I mean, we all know he got 186 gold and a green staff its just bad form or etiquette.

And of course I got the slew of you snooze you lose, I'm faster than you responses but got some whispers from people that have been long time players that said what I mentioned was worth mentioning for new players that might not be aware that having good etiquette when farming is a good thing.
