Unwritten Ethical Node Picking Code of Conduct

Jemcrystal

✭✭✭✭✭
1) Do not pick someone else's node.
2) To claim a node while engaged with the enemy stand directly over the node as you are in battle.
3) If you cannot for some reason stand over the choice node you forfeit your right of claim to said node.
4) Do not pick a node what has a person of some close distance to node unless individual remains still for more than 12 seconds.
5) Do not get pizzy when node is lost to fellow farmer. There are many nodes aplenty and you are being a foolish silly smallmind to get mad at just a game.
6) Give benefit of doubt to other node farmers. Sometimes they do not see you because spacing off bored doing mechanical repetitious node picking and you might have been in their camera blind spot.

Anything anyone might like to add go ahead.

Not covering barrels and chests. Not because it isn't node picking. More because I lack info about the respawn dynamics of chests, barrels, sacks, etc. Not sure if you must take all from them to respawn or not? Not sure if a barrel with a lemon in it, once removed, will chance a recipe/valuable or if it will always respawn a lemon in it?

Barrels, Drawers, (not heavy) sacks, etc. are all instanced, so it doesnt matter what you do with them, you will not affect another player.

This reads much better when replacing "node" with "nose"...

    This is all that matters:
    5) Do not get pizzy when node is lost to fellow farmer. There are many nodes aplenty and you are being a foolish silly smallmind to get mad at just a game.

First come first serve... it's a online rule. I've been clearing enemies around a chest and they come in and take it while I'm still fighting but it happens all the time, no use crying over it because the people that do it love it when you whisper them, get mad or cry about it. Same for nodes...

Nodes have no ownership. Just take everything in it. Sucks to harvest an enchanting node and find that it only has a ta.

Yeah, everyone taking everything would make all things a lot more pleasant for anyone else. After all, you can always destroy the stuff you don't care for...

Otherwise, just don't be a jerk. Don't take a node someone else is fighting over. Don't try to race someone to a node, if you spot them being closer then you, just move on, get a head start to the next node. (doesn't count for those who just stand around before a node - take it or loose it) And don't bother getting worked up if someone does one of those, just shrug and move on. There's always more nodes, those things respawn after all... ;)

Same rules apply to treasure chests BtW.

    Children...
    Trolls.....
    And Arsshole......
That sums up most players these days....
Back in my day kids we had gamer ethics and respect, due to the reflection of the world people bring in their Fπ€£ED up lives into the game....
Gaming use to be a place to escape the mundane and madness of real life, a sanctuary to just have fun, now it's all about trying to cause other people suffering so they feel better about them selves...

My husband and I to this day will ask if a player wants that node they are standing next to, if no response then we take it,... If we someone running towards a node we let them have it.

We try to gather nodes off the beaten path so we do not have the competition fighting over resources.

In more experienced developers of games, the best gathering mechanics is where nodes are character bound, and multiple players can gather resources from the same nodes and not effect the resources of other players.

I consider node thievery as an invite to a friendly game of node PvP.

I farm on a nightblade with a full run speed build.

    I can't remember ever losing. :D

    Nope.

No one is entitled to a node in this game.

With the amount of nodes in this game, I generally skip a chest or node if I see a player fighting next to it or clearly aiming to interact with it. There is always going to be another node a few seconds around the corner. What I would like to see is a forced auto-loot-all to end the partially looted node issue.

I can agree on this, as I'm generally the guy that isn't too greedy with farming. If I have been fighting over that chest, I do want it, but can't get too salty, cause they do respawn at some point.

Now these troves are another story. I seem to have spotted more when I didn't have the DLC, now I barely find them. Whether it's campers, or spawn rate, not sure as of yet. Just got the gold edition finally. Need a trove site out there that is more accurate though.

Code of conduct is becoming more of a relic though these days. Too much attitude, narcissism, and lack of respect from people these days...it all carries over in game. I have to remind my girl's youngest not to be rude in group chats, cause it really isn't a becoming trait. Not over a game. It's better to woosah than to lose all face.

Yes. Especially if you have dedicated "BUILD" for farming. So you sprint faster than mounts do... (I have seen some threads on this forums when people with such "builds" were accused of cheating lol).
Is that fair when such people run around Hew's Bane and just pick literally everything ?

Yes, investment equals reward for them. They don't just run around doing the same as everyone else and expect special treatment or better results because they simply take up space.

I don't remember too many civil, UN-like, gathering communities and I've played the mmos that matter.

    1. A node is yours when you actually open it. Not before, not after.
    2. Don't leave anything in the node, it can't respawn if you do. Take all or nothing. (On PC there are addons that destroy junk so it doesn't clog inventory)
    3. DON'T USE BOTS
    4. Report Bots

Lesser offenses that are annoying but not worth worrying about. (See 1 above)
    1. Picking a node while some is fighting an enemy that had to be engaged to get to the node. (can't always be sure person actually wants the node to begin with)
    2. Taking a node/chest someone else tried to open or actually picked but they couldn't open it because of an enemy or whatever reason.
    3. Farming the same rich small area over and over basically claiming the nodes in that spot (should have a long wide route)

Remember this a game. It's a competition just like most things in it. Being and opportunist is okay, just don't be a cheater or sore loser. Two biggest points of emphasis.

If a node is harvested in a forest and no one else is around to see it is it really a node?
Personally if i see someone heading to a node i don't race them for it and if they're fighting a wee beastie at the node i'll help kill it and head off to another node since there's plenty of them everywhere. That said i don't get angry if someone grabs a node i was headed for either, i just shrug and head to the next. As for chests, most of the chests pop up in places i never see other players, so i rarely have competition, but otherwise my approach is the same. There's a couple chests i like because they spawn on high ledges or waterfalls and seem to have Master locks more often, so it makes them more interesting.

It could be so nice if nodes were like containers you steal stuff from...(so if someone already took that node 1 sec before, it would not affect you and you also could harvest resources from it). Simple, right ? ;)

    ...snip...
These are two different thngs. Some amateurs may claim to be faster to catch a single node. Serious farmers do have speed builds, but then it's question of yield. I have harvested hundreds of thousands of mats but i never fight over a single node.

I can agree with OP's rules while emptying Hew's Bane at the same time. Stealing nodes is being a jerk. Clearing an area is making results.
