I didn't buy crown crates yet, but I saw some videos on youtube of openings and I see how many people were disappointing and just threw so much money away.
Even if you have too much money to spend, there are other more useful ways to spend it other than supporting this massive scam.
Even if there was 100% chance to get a mount every 15 boxes it would still be the equivalent of 40$ for a mount which is the price of many brand new games.
Supporting things like that only encourages them to scam you more.

You need to buy between what, 50 to 134 crates in order to get enough Gems for an Apex mount, don't you?

At the same time, I have to consider the position of ZoS, who freely dropped the sub model. That's millions lost every month, and to find a gap between maintenance, new content, and revenue (note: revenue != profit!) must be damn difficult when the only options they can produce are direct buys or lottery chances.
My concern is the lottery taking precedence over direct buys. Yes, I lost out on a damn awesome looking storm senche, and that actually pisses me off because this was a guaranteed purchase. Now, ZoS lost this money from me.
That's where the line blurs, because those who did buy, and received their rewards, don't see a problem even if they spent their own money. I sure don't go up to people and tell them not to buy lottery tickets, and I won't do so here.
Just be cognizant that the success of crown crates gives ZoS one more reason not to release a popular item directly. If one does the math, the lottery system would absolutely generate more revenue than direct buys because of the sheer volume of crates needed to obtain a single item (excluding those extremely rare people who nailed one on their first try).
If this happens, this will change the dynamic of the game for me. I subscribe, but now I feel betrayed because items I do want, I can no longer get without throwing more money at the screen.
I'm not going to rant about it, because it's pointless. Still, I dislike being disappointed over decisions like this when it comes to generating revenue. The digital era has put a crunch on things, and companies are still trying to work things out, but these lottery chances just don't sit well with me.
I'd rather know precisely what my money is being spent on. After all, it's a VIRTUAL GOOD, which means it's not even tangible.

Perhaps if more people had coughed up and subbed in the beginning instead of screaming about it being a sub only game, it would now not be B2P.
