Starter Isles the Best Place to Grab Mats?

Finally got around to Caldwell's Gold and I'm going through starter isles in EP. I accumulated more crafting mats in two hours of playing through into Davon's Watch than I think I've gathered in the last month. Is this intentional to let new players dive into crafting right away?
I don't always drink Skooma, but when I do I go to the Southwall Corner Club. May you walk on warm sands my friends.

    LOL. But thanks for reminding me. I'm in some desperate need for some heartwood right now, because I just bought a new house today in between server crashes, and I'll be making all the furniture for it.
