I need the lol button because this thread title did just that.

I don't use them often but mudballs are a fun way to show your dislike of something:

    -duels near wayshrines and traders...mudball
-spamming spells in those places like a jackass...mudball
-playing the flute/lute while we wait on a dolmen...mudball
-sitting around on your crown crate mount...mudball

There was someone at the Elden Root wayshrine slinging that "mudball" at everyone that came by... if I wasn't in a hurry, I would have reported him for griefing. It's one thing to do stuff like that to people you know, but to stand there at a transit station and do this continuously, that kind of childish behavior needs to be reported.

    Oh, goodness.

The mud washes off in seconds and running to a wayshrine isn't exactly something the mudball actually disrupts. Yeah, the mudball can be used to disrupt, like at dye stations and RPG events. Running through the ground level of Elden Root to get somewhere is not one of them.

Dye shop inside house... no prob.

but i can agree with the notion of mudball opt-out or at the very least a significant timer lockout like say 10m between can be hit.

We don't need an opt out. We need ZOS to disable the effect if at a dye station.

We don't need cooldowns. We need people to behave themselves, on both the sending and receiving side, and for ZOS to step in when they don't.

We need people to realize that getting hit by a single mudball as they run past is not a reportable emergency. If it bothers them, they need to forget about it as fast as the mud washes away. Reporting them for something like this seems more likely to draw attention to the person doing the reporting, if done enough, or with enough zeal.

Save the reports for times when actual griefing is being done. When they follow and hit repeatedly, when they interrupt an RPG event, or when they keep nailing a person at a dye station. Stuff like that. Not just because it is briefly annoying.

As a law-abiding citizen of Tamriel, when witnessing a murder, the murderer gets a mudball. Maybe two. Hopefully one day ZoS will actually give us some sort of game mechanic to react to all the blatant homicide that goes on, but until such time it's the humble mudball. I'm thankful for them.

I've been hit by them a couple times running through town. The effect doesn't last very long and really doesn't mess with game play.

Unless maybe you are RP'ing. Then I could see how hitting RP'ers would be considered griefing. But other than that... *shrugs*

It must be terrible having to go through life clutching at straws (or mud balls) in order to find something to complain about.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Mud-ball to the face to random players that are in world => OK
Mud-ball to the face to players that are using dye stations to customize their colors => Grieving.

That's pretty clear in my book.

    EDIT: typo

Griefing. I know, it shows up as a spelling error. Griefing is the act of tormenting a player with the intent of tormenting them. Grieving is the act of dealing with some traumatic event or loss. So, griefing has the goal of provoking grieving, but most of the time it only generates some salt and rage.

Thank you! I wasn't sure so I decided to follow the spell checker, though it seemed somewhat dubious :)

And yes, English is not my native language, so I make tons of mistakes all over the place

No worries, I save my ire for native speakers who botch things up.
