With the new Crown Crate season starting tomorrow, I will be updating my crowd-sourced drop rate spreadsheet for the new items. Data entry into the spreadsheet this time will be per crate via Google Forms, so if you wish to contribute, please ensure you know which items came from which crate (or fill in the form concurrently with opening the crate); this should help provide more analytical data on how the drops work.

The Google Form for data entry will be available here:
https://goo.gl/forms/8ZwWsDbnT2ulv4FJ3

I will endeavour to open it for responses as soon as possible after the drop list is published.

The spreadsheet is available here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Zt5oj7PWNFFaTykgXhWQOOkVl1ekHAJgcJpueRN3C40/edit?usp=sharing

I wish congress would compel them to do so, as if it were any other form of gambling.

China is the first country to have begun enforcing this, where loot crates in games are legally classified as gambling (rightfully so) and all games using them have to include gambling warnings and declare the abysmal drop rates of all their flagship items. I can't wait for other countries to adopt the same measures. It really does feel like game devs are taking advantage of this ethically ***tty situation while they can.

Didn't think I was going to buy these crates but I had some MS points to use. I'd rather just type here as it is quicker for me (already got a headache from those drop down menus) - if you want to add this data to your spreadsheet then it is here for you to do so.

    1. XP Scroll / Repair Kit / Lethal Poison / Flannel Forest Hood
    2. Antler's Face Tattoo / Mimic Stone / Tri Pot / Drain Poison
    3. Lethal Poison / Root Brim Hat / Wild Hunt Senche Mount / Mimic Stone / Leaf Dance Aura
    4. Leaf Dance Aura / Mimic Stone / Wild Hunt Senche Mount / Lethal Poison / Fortifying Meal
    5. Black Marsh Costume / Mimic Stone / Tri Pot / Spell Elixir
    6. XP Scroll / Debilitating Poison / Mimic Stone / Feathered Kelp Scalp Hat
    7. Tri Pot / XP Scroll / Mimic Stone / Feathered Kelp Scalp Hat
    8. Mimic Stone / 12 Point Antler Cap / Lethal Poison / Tree Minder Costume
    9. Crown Riding Capacity Lesson / Lethal Poison / Leaf Dance Aura / Lethal Poison
    10. Warrior Elixir / Crown Riding Speed Lesson / Mimic Stone / Black Marsh Costume
    11. Fortifying Meal / Banekin Pet / Mimic Stone / Fortifying Meal
    12. Lethal Poison / Winterborn Shaman Costume / Lethal Poison / Vines Body Tattoo
    13. Fortifying Meal / XP Scroll / Hircine Banner / Feathered Kelp Scalp Hat / Lethal Poison
    14. Moth Swarm Pet / Fortifying Meal / Black Senche Panther Mount / XP Scroll / Lethal Poison
    15. Mimic Stone / Lethal Poison / 12 Point Antler Cap / Mimic Stone / 12 Point Antler Cap

Items in BOLD are the bonus items.

I have 273 crown gems after I got rid of what I didn't want (or had to get rid of), so I'll save those for the next season of crates.

Wow, so many of those crates only had a single blue item as their best reward. No epics or legendaries, let alone an apex mount. They're 400 Crowns each, right? And you could just end up with some useless consumables and a tattoo... Kind of like a bad night out.

    It should be:
    • First item: Common or better
    • Second item: Fine or better
    • Third item: Superior or better
    • Fourth item: Epic or better
    • Bonus item: Epic or better

Yeah, there will be nonsense like that, as there was last time. I can always delete things like that if necessary, but hopefully there will be enough legit entries that one odd one won't skew it too much. I will delete any impossible ones though.

Which is exactly why congress would need to act in the US. Anybody who objectively looks at this and says it's not gambling is frankly delusional.

I think they can avoid the gambling classification because you buy crowns, and what you do with the crowns is your own choice. Someone told me that, I have no idea if it's true or not.

Crowns have nothing to do with it being gambling or not, legally it's not gambling because you always win something (and unless I'm mistaken you always win something worth more than 400 crowns if you were to buy similar items in the store) , gambling requires a chance to lose.

I've heard that it's a combination of a few factors which make crown crates (and similar boxes in other games) legal, and not technically gambling.

    1) Legally crowns are not a currency, so you're not gambling with real money - you pay money to access a new part of the service (meaning the game), but you're not paying for the crates directly with real money. Its the same as things like RNG drops from DLC - you pay to access the DLC but you don't buy the drop with cash, so it's not gambling.

    2) Legally all of the items in the game, including ones from the crown store, remain the property of ZOS and have no real-world value (beyond their value as intellectual property - an idea) so by one interpretation we don't win anything from crown crates.

    3) All of the prizes are known in advance, have roughly equal value (none) and you are guaranteed to get a prize every single time, which puts it into the same category as those vending machines that give you a plastic capsule with a crap toy inside or a lucky dip.

Not all of those matter everywhere in the world, and there might be other factors which I've forgotten. But they're the main ones that make it ok in most countries.

Every mmo I've played that had gambling boxes has had these kinds of topics on the forums. I'm a bit divided over it. I played Star Trek Online and there would be people who spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on ships that were locked away behind these gamble boxes. One one hand, if these suckers want to throw so much money on a virtual item...you can't really blame the company from taking advantage of it. Companies after all don't have ethics when it concerns profit.
It starts to suck for us normal people when they put everything cool in those gambling boxes, at which point its time to find a new mmo imho.
Personally I think the people that buy the boxes are more to blame than the companies that offer them. And I don't mean the people who spend 3000 crowns they have from 2 months of subscribing and decide to use them on these boxes because it contains an item they love to have. I mean people who actually cash in 50 or 100 dollars for crowns with the purpose of buying the boxes. Of course, those people often defend that by saying they have plenty of money and do it to support the game in this way...so yeah. Difficult.

Zenimax has an epic legal team. I wouldn't argue the legality of it unless you really felt it was against the law - in which case they would probably still win against you :p

Zenimax legal team won them $500 million from Facebook.

I'm not sure why you would assume that people are not offering legit information (though I suppose it can happen). In my only storm crate last season I DID get Storm Guar, Storm Wolf, Frost Mare, Storm Orb Juggle, and Wrestler's Buzz Cut. It was the only crate I purchased, as I wanted to just try it once.

If you get furniture apparently you can turn it into gems. Got a Tapestry of Hiricine and turned it into 133 gems.

Wish I got said gems during the last crate cycle though, I'm not impressed with most of the stuff aside from the sweet Spriggan mounts.

3 new classes. 3 new spellcasters. Zenimax has forgotten how to make melee classes.
  • RandomForumUser12
I purchased 4 Wild hunt crates for 1500 crowns and I got the Wild Hunt bear on my 4th.. and I also received about 40 gems of useless crap.

The mount will go great with the new Warden class.

As for the spreadsheet, I question the reliability of random user-inputted data. Sure it's cost effective, but the best way to determine drop rates would be to buy 100 crates and use that as your sample.

It's nothing to do with crowns not being legal tender. Because after all, you can buy tokens on proper gambling sites and those sites are still regulated under gambling laws. It has to do with the prizes having zero monetary value. I know people will argue the toss and state they do to the people who are buying them, but it doesn't matter if I think they're worth £100's or worthless, the law here in the UK doesn't recognise them as having any monetary value. It's all to do with the prizes, not how you access those prizes.

Wait, what? That should be technically impossible because there are no consumables. Every crate must contain at least one Green or White card, otherwise the "crate of consumables with a chance of a collectible" line doesn't work...

And if that's not the case, someone somewhere sold me duff information... :stuck_out_tongue:

I just added some data to the list. :)

I got a lot of crates, though, so it will take a few days to put it all in. Basically, if people buy these crates, be prepared to get a million mimic stones, and the Bravil Retriever dog over and over and over and over.

And soul gems. Yegads, they put soul gems in there. :# As if I don't already have 300 soul gems in my inventory RIGHT NOW.

I purchased 30 crates in the end received 3 apex rewards, the senche, bear and camel. However I wanted the horse but had enough gems to purchase separately.

All the apex rewards were however achieved after my 15th crate. So had to spend $100 to earn anything at all.

In the 30 atronach crates I did not receive a single mount let alone apex and received only duplicate superior items mainly costumes.

Idk if something was changed or if rng was good to me today.

I opened two crates and simply counted my findings - the way I wrote it down isn't compatible with the Enodoc's crate by crate format, so there's the result :

    8 crates = 32 cards + 1 extra card = 33

5 XP scrolls (5 converted into gems)
2 Flannel forester hood (1 converted into gems)
3 poisons (don't remember which one)
4 mimic stones (4 converted into gems)
5 food (5 converted into gems)
    1 tree minder costume
    1 soul gem (1 converted)
2 mementos leaf dance aura (1 converted)
    5 potions (5 converted)
    1 bravil retriever
    1 winterborn hunt costume
    1 wild vine face tatoo
1 wild hunt antler skull cap
    1 west skyrim costume

total gems after process = 33
