Selling Blueprints and Plans - Is this smart?

As I'm new to ESO, I don't have a character with a lot of crafting experience. But my character is a thief, joined the thieves guild, etc. As a result of his thieving, or borrowing for an indefinite period of time, he's accumulated a number of blueprints and other crafting plans (in addition to the Food Recipes he's found).

I started selling them a few days ago, mostly because my bank was full and they're worth a lot. In that time, I've managed to make about 30k in gold just selling these in zone. My reasoning is that I don't have a character who can make the stuff and I expect, from what I hear in zone chat, that the prices will come down at some point in the future. My thought is to sell now and later, when the prices are lower, buy what I want. But this is just a rumor for me as I haven't been in the game long enough to understand how the ESO open market works.

Is this reasoning sound? Does the ESO market work this way or are there internal controls, like drop rates, that control the prices?

Man knowing the answer to all that is the trading holy grail

I would assume, like you however , that sell em while they hot is a good strategy. This tends to work for Motifs etc. But sometimes things end up oddly rare, so can go up in price for certain ones.

A difference would be if you are a master crafter, learning .the plans then making the gear may net you more gold. But as you aren't that's not as viable.

Just make aure you don't sell too cheap, people are that specific plan will pay more

The prices for furnishing plans have already dropped down pretty far. The people who made a lot of money were those selling all plans they found in the first four days of grinding. Personally, I don't care about making money that much. I've been learning every new blueprint I find, and selling the known ones at guild trader. Saves me from having to hunt for or buy that same blueprint later.

I understand, but money is important to me as I need bank and bag space, and I'd like to get a house eventually for storage and convenience.

Since you are new to the game, here is some advice you will thank me for later. Pick a character that will be your Master Crafter at some point. Does not need to be crafting today. But, this is the character that will learn all the Gear Traits, all the Motifs, all the Recipes etc.

While you are learning the game, have this character decon all the mob loot you don't sell, and research traits that are not known. You don't need to invest much if any skill points into crafting at this time, but you do need to level crafting and research traits.

Now, to answer your thread question, what I do is learn the recipes and sell the dups. I don't know yet what will be rare and what will be common.

Houses in ESO do not have storage. This may or may not change at a future date, but currently storage is not an option.

Er... at the moment there is no storage with housing. It has been said, that at some point in the future there may be storage with housing. The details of how, when or how much has not yet been revealed to us.

So housing doesn't have storage. Then what can you do with your house?

Can you buy enchanting stations, etc.

Damn, no storage. I don't say this easily about a game but that seems kind of stupid.

With houses you can:
- Decorate aesthetically to show off your style or your stuff
- Use as a free teleport into the house
- Add a target skeleton or several to test your damage abilities
- Add crafting stations (all six crafts) and also dyeing stations
- Someone in my guild added a jumping puzzle to his, so you can be creative
- Allow friends to visit to see your decorations, hang out, use your crafting stations, or whatever

That's pretty much it?

Yes you can get crafting stations buy completing master writs and collecting vouchers or you can buy generic ones with crowns (pretty hefty price of 3k crowns).

Housing, so far for me, is a side activity - decorating can be fun - but mostly the convenience comes from getting a house near a wayshrine or guild traders.

Okay, thanks. It's something that I can craft in my future house. The lack of storage seems strange to me, but I'll admit I may not understand the reason for this decision. Why would this be something that wouldn't be included? Server storage issues?

Advice: make the crafter character a race that can do magic and stam, as a nightblade.

The crafter character will sometimes be needed to travel through pvp, and the nightblade is best at stealthy movement. My crafter nightblade has slid past enemy players less than 2 meters away undetected, without even activating cloak.

It's a lot easier to do some of the thieves guild things to farm motifs and such as a nightblade - again that cloak is great.

Farming chests and urns efficiently is easier without needing to beat your way through every mob in sight.

That is what they said. However, they could give us a Mules worth of storage in each house (200 bag slots). But maybe that blows up the save files.

However, the number one reason to need storage is Crafting. They have a Crafting Bag that comes with the subscription that holds all your crafting mats.

You can role mule characters to store excess swag, and each can have 200 slots on them. I have 4 of those myself and 6 characters I play.

I'm not asking for anything for free. Storage has been an essential part of every TES game ever made, and a central part of every housing DLC ever sold for those games.

But - as I said - I may not be familiar with the storage limitations for an online game, which is why I asked about server issues.

So please relax, I"m not angry.

It just seems strange to me that storage wouldn't be included (clearly an incorrect assumption on my part). And without storage, I won't be paying real money for a house. I'll just let that wait until I have enough in-game gold to buy it.

To the OP...

Storage wasn't on the list for the INITIAL rollout of housing.

Why?

Take all the characters created, on all servers. Make 2 equal piles - one of those piles has NEVER upped their inventory space at all. No backpack upgrade, not even a single point put into the saddlebag mount increase. Half of all characters are running around with base start inventory size.

Okay... That's. 50% done nothing, what about the other pile of 50%?

Well, of that other 50%, break it into 2 groups, 47% and 3%. I think you can see where this is going...

The 47% pile has only done some of the inventory increases. They still have space upgrades to buy. They haven't gotten all the backpack and saddlebag increases.

So, what picture does that paint, when 3 people have run out of space, 47 people are getting along with what partial upgrades they've done, and 50 people are just fine with the bare bones?

The picture that paints is that 97 out of 100 do not care enough about storage for it to have been a priority for rollout. The actions of the 8 million players spread across X million characters speak louder than the forum complaints of the 3%.

So... I guess I'm the bad guy who gets to explain that.

Seriously, a full upgraded bank is I think 240 and a fully upgraded backpack is line 210. And things stack, so it's not like that's 210 individual items.

If you want to make money in ESO, be on the sell side of every transaction for 2-4 weeks following the patch. Easy as that. Yes the prices will fall.

This is not universally true, but as a general rule: Prices will be at their highest in the first few days following a new patch. They will then gradually fall as you approach the next patch. You will then typically see them bump up a bit as the new patch is about to be released as people try to complete what they are missing. Then the process repeats as the new patch comes out.

Learn to ride the wave. Buy Low, Sell High.

Okay, that post makes more sense.

The way I was looking at it was you could buy bank space in the bank or buy storage space in a house. The latter would be an alternative to the former.

But if that's how the game works, that's how it works.

That's pretty much it?

You can also, if you have purchased the Banker, Merchant or Fence with Crown Points, put one in your house. The Banker doesn't give access to guild stores, like the real Bank does, but it does at least give access to your bank storage. Not hugely useful, though, since you can just summon these guys anywhere for yourself anyway without traveling to your house, but could be helpful if you have a friend without them (or better yet, like me, a friend who does have them and puts them in his house
