What hit me?

I pvp once a year when friends force me into it.

Until ZOS finds a way to tone down the multitude of cheats and exploits rampantly parading through cyrodiil, I'll admire the zone from afar.

In before pvp elitist tells me to gitgud. I'm plenty good enough, exploits in pvp are a fact, not a whiner fantasy.

Not nearly as much as you think they are. But hey, you know best right? After all, you spend a whole day a year in it and know everything about it....
Give me a break.. It is exactly a l2p issue. Not everyone who beats you is a cheater and exploiter. Reminds me of Call of Duty/Battlefield chat lol.

Well if anyone figures it out let me know because in PvE it happens in VMSA on Xbox one and it's a rage quit experience after the 4th 5 time in a row. This being with full stam and health

Best to record your fights if you can. Shadowplay works great if you are on PC with an nvidia - continually records the last few minutes and saves them to a clip at a keypress.

I often could swear i got hit by an unbreakable CC, but when i watched the recording it turned out i simply didn't have enough stamina to break free. Not always, mind you, but the few cases where i couldn't break free with enough stam could be attributed to lag.

It was probably a City Guard, throwing their one-shot doohickey through a portal that opened up spontaneously.

    Ranged CC would be:
    Javelin (templar)
    Fossilize/Stonefist (DK)
    Agony (NB)
    Destructive Reach (Destro Staff)
    Bombard/Magnum Shot (Bow)

All those are hard CC bar from last two for bow which are soft CC but annoying nontheless.

Could be any of these (maybe i missed any, can't remember)
Hmm, I thought you were able to break free from any of those that hit you... Was I wrong?

You can break free from any CC. Difference between soft and hard CC is soft CC only roots you in place but doesn't prevent you from attacking (just mobility).
Hard CC in any form disables you from doing anything until you break free.
That's what's confusing me about this. Whatever it is that's hitting me is unbreakable CC that knocks me down and pins me to the ground for a couple of seconds. Breaking free doesn't do anything. Each time this has happened it's been the first thing that has hit me in a fight and I've been at full stamina (or very nearly full, I think one time I had been sneaking shortly before it happened). I would suspect lag is causing me to not be able to break free, but I haven't been noticing anything else that would indicate I've been lagging.

Ive had the same thing happen to me the last few times I was in Cyrodil. Im on PS4 so it is not specific to a platform. When it happens to me I usually get killed by a NB so I assumed it was one of their moves

I don't think it's that you "can't" break free it's just that break is not all that effective at the best of times and if you're lagging or have a high ping it can literally be deathly slow. I know exactly what you're talking about and it really sucks, you get pinned flat and basically that's it even if you're at full stats when pinned. You'll just get messed up by who ever is around with no chance to get up. If you do get up it's about 3 seconds later and you're basically dead at that point. I attribute it to my high latency (300-400) based on my location.

Does it just knock you down or knock you back AND down?
If the latter, maybe it's the stamina morph of templar's javelin... Maybe with all the fuss that zergs create in Cyro, the game doesn't load the visual effects properly.

Based on this thread I'm thinking that like you suggest it's the Templar javelin, combined with this:

I recommend Miat's CC tracker while you are in pvp land.

Also, keybind your CC break -- it's often more responsive than the double mouse click.
I've got my CC break bound to one of the buttons on the side of my mouse, so it's already a single click. I'll check out the CC tracker though - that sounds very handy, thanks!

Miat's is the best thing to happen to me in PvP. Hands down.

The best part of that addon is that for whatever reason, in laggy situations, it will tell you when you are cc'd even before the effect shows up on the screen. Sometimes that can be a full second difference and maybe even a bit more. Since using cc tracker, I have not experienced the NB unbreakable fear issue. Miat's displays a big icon wherever you want it (I keep it right on my character) and you can actually break free (with animation) before the cc animation plays. My guess is that ZoS makes the cc display determination after everything else, sort of like the last turn in a round of Zelda type games.

It actually goes well beyond just prompting a break free, it displays the icon of whatever you are in. So if you ever have the issue where you don't have the anullment effect on your screen and don't know to move out of it, Miat's fixes that. It will tell you if you are standing in an enemy DK standard, etc.
