Noob: Best places to steal?

I see from previous patch notes that stolen stuff has been nerfed way down in value. This is discouraging to a noob( since others probably got rich beyond measure under old rules) but I remain undeterred.

Can someone please disclose "sweet spots" for getting quick cash but stealing?

Especially if you already made yours, please pass on the knowledge

Thanks! :0)

Nurin Farm by Koeglin Village in Stormhaven is nice to loot. If the farmhouse is approached from the correct door, there are no hostile NPC's in the way. I almost always get a homestead crafting recipe from there.

Are you sure? Green items are all 100g and blue 250g, that hasn't changed at all, the last “nerf” I remember was 2 years ago, soon after initial release.

If you want steal, focus on green and blue items. Visit each zone main city and loot all containers there, including sacks, barrels, boxes etc. Visit every house, every inn, manor, castle. Then start again, at this moment containers will be refilled again.

I am not bothering with selective stealing. Just quick reaching the 140 daily fencing cap.

Go to Rawlka inn, first floor, there are a lot of wardrobes, trunks etc. Steal everything that worths 40+. When you deplete the floor, just relog and everything will be refreshed.

You can kill the witnesses before stealing. This way you don't have to sneak and stealing is even faster. Then you can go to outlaws refuge by the exit on first floor, trough the balcony, without going near any guards.

My daily fencing cap is 140 and with maxed Haggling passive I am gaining 9-12k total a day. Reaching the cap takes me less than 30 minutes.

    • Fence every stolen treasure that is green, blue or purple.
    • Launder every item you find, that is a motif, even blue ones, recipes of any quality, and furnishing items.

Now you can choose to learn all the recipes yourself, however certain blue low level recipes are worth a ton on the player market, so if you are not a collector or completionist, then just sell those to other players via a trading guild.
-I don't know what platform you play on, however if you are on PC platform, then get Awesome Guildstore addon to be able to search guildstores and view prices better, if your pc can handle it then get Master Merchant addon as well, to have a sense of what items are worth.

If you can afford invisibility potions, or is a nightblade with cloak then you can steal inside buildings, for this you can go to any major city ....otherwise stick to market places such as in Auridon, Riften, Glenumbra or Wayrest, because it's open and you can run from guards and down to the refuge.

The ships at the docks in Daggerfall are good for new thieves because there are no NPCs around so there's no risk of being caught, and there's lots of containers. And if you want something a bit riskier there's lots of containers on the docks too where you could be seen.

Plus it's only a short run to the Outlaw's Refuge with just 1 guard in the way. (And if you don't want to risk that you can go into the water, around the lighthouse and up to the Refuge with no risk of encountering a guard.)

Other than that any big city is a pretty good target. I prefer to steal from large public buildings (castles, temples, banks etc.) rather than individual houses because they tend to have more containers in one place, you never have to pick a lock to get in and it doesn't count as trespassing, so it's easier and less risk.

I find that most of the castles, manors, taverns and fighters guild buildings in every town and city of Glenumbra, Stormhaven and Rivenspire are loaded with loot-able containers that have green/blue/purple things to fence as well as furniture plans to sell on guild traders. The furniture plans could net more money overall. I go for cabinets, dressers, anything with a hinged wooden door because they can contain both types of loot.

If I remember right the ships in the harbor outside of Daggerfall is a good place to steal things. Once you are in the ships there are no witnesses and plenty to steal. Be careful on the deck though because one of the NPCs on the pier will sometimes spot you.

Don't waste laundering on recipes and motifs you're going to learn yourself, just learn them as soon as you steal them, that way they're not at risk if you get caught and you don't waste money or your daily allowance on laundering.

If you want to get rich stealing, it's a good idea to level all associated skill lines: Legerdemain, TG, and DB. They all have passives that make stealing much easier. Legerdemain for better sneak, bigger loot limit, better lock forcing, better pickpocketing. Unless you are super careful, you are bound to be caught sooner or later, and Swiftly Forgotten and Clemency TG passives are a big aid. Haggling passive from TG will increases fencing profit up to 10%. DB gives you Blade of Woe.....no better way to deal with witnesses, not to mention more stolen items and rare style mat Tainted Blood. Scales of Pitiless Justice reduces the size of bounty from murders. TG dailies and DB Shadowy Supplier are good sources of Counterfeit Edicts, that melt away your bounty.

You also want to equip a set of Shadow Dancer or Night's Silence for speed and 3/pc Night Terror for stealth.

Everything above are great suggestions for where to steal. I do most of my stealing in areas with lots of targets and easy access to Outlaw Refuge to rinse and repeat quickly to daily limit. To maximize profit, I fence green and higher, and launder then sell the 40g whites.

If you have Thieves guild DLC and Dark brotherhood DLC it helps a lot. In thieves guild skill line you have passive that gives you 10% more gold for fencing items. In Dark Brotherhood DLC you have the ability to "reset" NPC (murder them :o ). So when they re-spawn they have full inventory again, so you can pickpocket them faster.

About the place, the best is where you have no guards, some containers and not too much NPC (if you don't like pickpocketing). There is such a place in Stonefalls in Devon's Watch. I think it was called Indoril Manor.

Loot everything sell the "junk" and launder the "goods". Then sell all homestead designs in a guild trader or zone.
The designs will bring more gold than the rest of the junk. By the time you are ready to play house yourself, the values of the designs and mats will have dropped significantly.
