Yeah I hope it can be changed so they act like they do normally. It would definitely liven up the house.

Agreed. I haven't placed any pets because of this very reason. I might place a frog or dwemer spider as decoration in my laboratory area though.

I'd be happy if they atleast wagged a tail and gave me a nod when I walked by.

Would require laying a framework for pathfinding. Possibly do-able, but probably not a priority at the moment.

Isn't it just a line of code to not overlap other items. Like the witcher 3 or skyrim, rabbits and chickens roam free, when seeing human they may flee, hide, or greet.

Well, it's not a "frozen" statue. They do their idle animations, so they at least look alive. :)

I think the reason they don't roam is because they'd have to do roaming animation work for every pet ever made, and that they ever will make. Now, some animals already have a roaming animation (like the cats) because they're in the game and have those animations already. Many of the pets don't already have roaming animations, though. I think it was a matter of them not wanting to allocate an employee to do the work required.

Well since the fruit and meat displays are made with wax, alchemical resin and flour maybe your pet is also waxed for decoration

i mean arent your pets and animals already animated to pretty much every terrain in the game? it would simply be the task of unlocking them to follow a ghost around the house.

I would also like to see more movement from the mounts. It would be neat having an option to allow free roam or stay put or just even have some movement. My horses look like statues lol

My Markarth dog barks, wags his tail and digs in the flower bed. I agree it would be great if he walked around but he is very active.

They'd have to re-do the pathing a bit so that the animal walks along a set, short path, or in a small circle. You would never be able to set an animal anywhere near a wall or furniture again, because it would have to have enough room around it to do the roaming.

It's doable, though. It would be really nice. I'd certainly welcome it with open arms if they decided to implement this in the game. It would be nice if my dog and lynx weren't always in the same spot every single minute of every day.

That's definately something to update....it's also odd that no assistants, mounts or pets can exist in homes other than being placed by the owner

I'm not sure what would be necessary to implement roaming pets inside our homes, but usually there is more that goes into the implementation of such things than what we think. It may not be as quick and simple as it looks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't ZOS use the existing models of the same 'family' (eg: wild senches and lion/senche mounts) and replace the texture of the former to the mount's and use the existing pathway framework of overworld critters and wildlife?

My guess is they were designed by different teams, developed separately, cos things don't seem to connect with the existing ESO environment.

Because ZOS gave their players the most bare-bones Housing update possible when compared to what other MMORPG's offer with their Housing.

I suspect that they did this in order to charge everyone a premium Crown Store price for all those "missing" features and features that "didn't make the cut".

Seriously, this Housing update is beyond worthless.

The sad thing is your pets and your merchants cant walk around freely. It would be nice to add some mechanic that can be added to the animation. I hate seeing my Merchant and pets just stand in one spot that's sad.

This is most likely a navmesh issue as much as anything else.

Pets, as well as any other NPC, require a pre-built path structure that aids them in pathfinding through complicated spaces. These structures are usually created by hand for every environment in game, and since the cluttering of player homes are handled by the players, there won't be any available Navmesh for NPCs to read.

This could be fixed by creating a tool for autogenereting Navmesh, but even this would likely require hand adjustents in order to work properly. Unless furnishing is restricted to a wireframe, like in Sims and other sandbox games, I simply dont see how this is going to be possible.

Interesting thought but explain why it can't be possible in some way about wireframe.

Fallout 4 and mine craft are user built houses too, the animals and NPCs free roam.
I really thought in this game when advertised initially that pets do roam free and jump on furnitures, surprised it wasn't.
