There are 2 versions of Morrowind. One is a complete edition which includes both the base game and the expansion. This allows you to create a brand new account.
The other is an upgrade edition which is just Morrowind (and is therefore cheaper). This can only be used to add the expansion onto an existing account, which means you will get to keep all your characters.
So if you want to keep your existing account just make sure you buy the Morrowind Upgrade - which is the less expensive version.
Maybe I'm out of sync with current gaming marketing but I expected a "gameplay" trailer to show more actual gameplay and less flashes of what assorted landscapes might look like...if they don't get changed too much in the final stages of development. I suppose they just meant this one is actually using the in-game graphics instead of CGI they're only capable of doing in a video.

I do not think that is right there is a special pre order bonus version for 60 bucks it may include the base game but I am pretty sure you can add it to your current account.

I believe you did. I preordered the upgrade which is only $40. You might want to try and find a way to cancel that preorder and do it over again and be a bit more careful about it.
There are five, in fact. There are 2 versions of Morrowind. One is a complete edition which includes both the base game and the expansion. This allows you to create a brand new account.

I understand the game was called Morrowind and they're playing on people's nostalgia (myself included), but still.

No, *raises hand* at the very least it's you and me. I keep telling myself that as long as they keep the incorrect nomenclature to the advertising and it's correct in the actual zone, I'll be happy.
