The only reason I Can think that they don't allow the housing mats to drop via surveys is to reinforce the horrible grind mechanic, which nobody really wants. I still have trouble getting enough materials together to craft items. 2+ hours farming mats and I'd gotten less than 10 heartwood thanks to the RNG.
Why is the drop rate so low? I'm a hardcore player and I have trouble. I can only imagine the plight of the casual gamer.
Zos, please put housing crafting mats in normal surveys...
The crown store should be for matters of convenience. Basically, a great way to nickle and dime crowns of out of people who are looking for those last few items. And I wouldn't have a problem with it.Callous2208 wrote: »But then people won't get frustrated and pump money into the Crown Scam... err I mean store! Honestly I still don't see any purpose behind the new materials other than to make things tedious.

Probably got it by using a bot.
I kind of hope they plan on adding it to the survey nodes, but for the time being are just giving everybody equal ground on finding the furniture items.
I believe I had 118 survey maps saved up waiting for homestead to launch and I know there are tons of other hoarders out there. Had they been in the survey nodes when the update hit the market would have been instantly flooded.

Surveys are end game farming for master crafters. It allows people that have put in the work to expedite and narrow their mat farming a little bit. As it stands now enchanting surveys aren't even worth the time to do, and wood working surveys aren't far behind.
Now we are expected to run all over the place farming surveys, and I mean all over the place, -and then I turn around and farm on top of that. It typically takes me a few hours a week to do surveys. I don't have time to do both.
Please reconsider this move.
Edit: While you are at it, it's time to buff hirelings. It is getting pretty tough to justify spending 15 skill points on the off chance of getting a gold mat once a month.
I don't understand what is so bad about people who saved up their surveys being slightly 'ahead' of those that didn't. Why do we all need to start out on equal footing anyhow? So maybe I'll get some furniture mats from my surveys (I'm sure the drop rate wouldn't that high even in survey nodes, just like the regular ones). Wow, now I can craft a whole 5 pieces of furniture for my house! I also saved up gold to buy a nice large home. Are you saying that's not fair, since not everyone can buy a large home initially?
I'm doubtful this is even the reason that they didn't include furniture mats in surveys, most likely they just didn't want to bother, but I think it would be a dumb reason if so.

it was more bother to take them out. They had to change alchemy surveys to make them stop and likely the others as well but alchemy got missed and then fixed.
To the others - I am sure there are plenty who see tieing up inventory space as earning a head start and so forth, and with my hundreds of surveys i would have been cashing them in for sure. At which point, a lot of folks trying to get into this housing thing from further back than i would be even more further back. only instead of everyone trying to gather mats from equal footing - it would be them starting from well behind the curve and thats not a way to promote more participation by those not so prepared.
But you can bet that if they had put them in surveys, knowing how that floods the mats out, the basic drop rates would be even lower - making it even more inaccessible for those less surveyed than i.
if you want a greater drop chance/rate - thats one thing.
Asking specifically for surveys - thats asking for a head start.
if you already have master crafters you likely already have a head start over many many many - so how much more head start do you need?

That's the point. You're a Master Crafter. You've earned the right to a head start... hell, it's not even a "head start"... it's just continuing with what you've already earned. This game has gotten more and more new player friendly. Look how quickly people can move up in Alliance Rank, Undaunted, CP, etc. It's fantastic that ZoS has given these new guys the opportunity for that- but let's not take away from some of the OGs that have been here for a while.
Agreed.
As it stands now, furniture crafting is the black sheep of crafting in ESO. It's fractured apart from the rest of crafting. If you want furniture crafting to be crafting - then make it part of the crafting system!
Survery reports need to have a chance to drop housing mats.
Hirelings need to occasionally send housing materials.
Due to master crafting writ rarity, I also believe furniture specific mats should have a chance to be included as a regular crafting writ reward.
Make furniture crafting actually part of the crafting family.

But how would your reasonable suggestion push people to the crown store???
Unless you can answer this, ZOS wont budge!

so see here id the thing. You can have 11 tier-1 crafters running 5 writs a day each for tier-1 mats, getting almost all their wood/metal/cloth-hide back in shipments and churning out avg 5 surveys a day. That is with not one single skill spent on crafting.
Then hand them off to one 160cp craft 50 guy to harvest them as if they were done by mythical end game crafters.
Surveys acquired has nothing to do with end game crafting or master crafters beyond having one statted for the harvesting.
Adding housemats to surveys is a bad idea speaking as soneone with 200+ surveys on hand, down from 300+ when homestead dropped. It would propel a few way ahead of the rest and IMo hurt the "long term content" nature of this system.
On the other hand, adding a chance of housingmats to the final tier of the hirelings - thats definitely worth considering.
