There's no sense for it, really. It's a node that drops on regular items like ore, wood, and cloth/skins. It should have a chance to drop on surveys just like nirncrux, casserite, pearl sand, etc.

Agreed. Way it is now is like it was purposely coded so the grind for housing mats would be even more of a pain.

The only reason I can think that they don't allow the housing mats to drop via surveys is to reinforce the horrible grind mechanic, which nobody really wants. I still have trouble getting enough materials together to craft items. 2+ hours farming mats and I'd gotten less than 10 heartwood thanks to the RNG.

Why is the drop rate so low? I'm a hardcore player and I have trouble. I can only imagine the plight of the casual gamer.

Feel you there. Somethings up with heartwood though. Either bugged or maybe it just feels this way since it would seem most of the things I'm making call for it. Traders either have zero heartwood for sale, or a tiny amount at 5 times the price of all other mats.

But then people won't get frustrated and pump money into the Crown Scam... err I mean store! Honestly I still don't see any purpose behind the new materials other than to make things tedious.

If Pacrooti weren't so busy with the crates business he could update his daily stock with a some heartwood occasionally.

Same goes for the other hirelings.

The crown store should be for matters of convenience. Basically, a great way to nickle and dime crowns of out of people who are looking for those last few items. And I wouldn't have a problem with it.

But finding the mats to actually craft has proven exceedingly difficult. I can build an intricate magical staff that vomits lightning strong enough to kill Rakkhat... but I'm sitting here scratching my head over how to make a coffee table. Game logic doesn't always make sense but this one's a serious stretch.

Probably got it by using a bot. :/ Using bots is so incredibly selfish. One, it's difficult to farm stuff for yourself if you happen to be in an area where someone has a few bots, because they grab everything as they spawn. Two, they flood the guild traders with the stuff, so then no one else can make gold by selling it. It's so selfish and awful.

That's the other thing: At least make the market competitive for people who ACTUALLY farm for mats. Right now, since there's no housing mats dropping in surveys- the only way to get them is to farm world nodes. This, of course, encourages shady players to bot farm... and it ruins the market for honest players. Bots don't do surveys. Real players actually collect mats from surveys.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Could you possibly reconsider allowing housing mats to drop during surveys? If not- is there any reason why ZOS decided not to put housing mats in surveys?

Wish I could press agree more than once. This is beyond stupid and the only possible incentive is to encourage a bigger grind. ESO does not need more grinds. If anything, it is encouraging Bots.

Surveys are end game farming for master crafters. It allows people that have put in the work to expedite and narrow their mat farming a little bit. As it stands now enchanting surveys aren't even worth the time to do, and wood working surveys aren't far behind.

Now we are expected to run all over the place farming surveys, and I mean all over the place, -and then I turn around and farm on top of that. It typically takes me a few hours a week to do surveys. I don't have time to do both.

    Please reconsider this move.

Edit: While you are at it, it's time to buff hirelings. It is getting pretty tough to justify spending 15 skill points on the off chance of getting a gold mat once a month.

I kind of hope they plan on adding it to the survey nodes, but for the time being are just giving everybody equal ground on finding the furniture items.

I believe I had 118 survey maps saved up waiting for homestead to launch and I know there are tons of other hoarders out there. Had they been in the survey nodes when the update hit the market would have been instantly flooded.

My guess would be that survey nodes are treated as seperate types of nodes from the regular ones, given the rich/lush/pristine labels on the nodes, and it wouldn't surprise me if ZOS forgot to add the housing mats to those lists.

I think you might be pretty close to the mark on this. Lets just say I have way more than 118. Now admittedly well over half are enchanting surveys, because I simply stopped doing them. They are a joke, and simply not worth the time it takes to do them. I also saved surveys for about a month pre-patch. I am going to at least have to put a dent in them this weekend because the inventory is out of control.

It would definitely not surprise me if about 2 months after patch, once all the hoarders gave up, they start dropping them in surveys.

so see here id the thing. You can have 11 tier-1 crafters running 5 writs a day each for tier-1 mats, getting almost all their wood/metal/cloth-hide back in shipments and churning out avg 5 surveys a day. That is with not one single skill spent on crafting.

Then hand them off to one 160cp craft 50 guy to harvest them as if they were done by mythical end game crafters.

Surveys acquired has nothing to do with end game crafting or master crafters beyond having one statted for the harvesting.

Adding housemats to surveys is a bad idea speaking as soneone with 200+ surveys on hand, down from 300+ when homestead dropped. It would propel a few way ahead of the rest and IMo hurt the "long term content" nature of this system.

On the other hand, adding a chance of housingmats to the final tier of the hirelings - thats definitely worth considering.

    @STEVIL

So, here's the thing Stevil... at least you earned those surveys. The fact that you've hoarded them is fine. If you've hoarded them for so long- and it just so happens that now the surveys drop housing materials- then that's great! It was a smart move and good investment for you to hold on to them.

At least you're not bot farming. If you've managed to save up enough surveys to *maybe* get a chance to have more housing materials than others- then so be it. You'll make some money (maybe) when you sell them. You haven't exploited the system and you made a wise choice. There's nothing wrong with that.

I don't understand what is so bad about people who saved up their surveys being slightly 'ahead' of those that didn't. Why do we all need to start out on equal footing anyhow? So maybe I'll get some furniture mats from my surveys (I'm sure the drop rate wouldn't that high even in survey nodes, just like the regular ones). Wow, now I can craft a whole 5 pieces of furniture for my house! I also saved up gold to buy a nice large home. Are you saying that's not fair, since not everyone can buy a large home initially?

I'm doubtful this is even the reason that they didn't include furniture mats in surveys, most likely they just didn't want to bother, but I think it would be a dumb reason if so.

it was more bother to take them out. They had to change alchemy surveys to make them stop and likely the others as well but alchemy got missed and then fixed.

To the others - I am sure there are plenty who see tieing up inventory space as earning a head start and so forth, and with my hundreds of surveys i would have been cashing them in for sure. At which point, a lot of folks trying to get into this housing thing from further back than i would be even more further back. only instead of everyone trying to gather mats from equal footing - it would be them starting from well behind the curve and thats not a way to promote more participation by those not so prepared.

But you can bet that if they had put them in surveys, knowing how that floods the mats out, the basic drop rates would be even lower - making it even more inaccessible for those less surveyed than i.

if you want a greater drop chance/rate - thats one thing.

Asking specifically for surveys - thats asking for a head start.

if you already have master crafters you likely already have a head start over many many many - so how much more head start do you need?

That's the point. You're a Master Crafter. You've earned the right to a head start... hell, it's not even a "head start"... it's just continuing with what you've already earned. This game has gotten more and more new player friendly. Look how quickly people can move up in Alliance Rank, Undaunted, CP, etc. It's fantastic that ZoS has given these new guys the opportunity for that- but let's not take away from some of the OGs that have been here for a while.

I have enough of a head start now, by being as master craftery as i am... i am way ahead after only 11 days of many in the master writs dept. i dont need that much of a head start that it doesnt even seem like others need to leave the starting line.

Great Shades of Elvis, i dont want the average homesteader seeing their drop rate cut to say 1/3 of what they are now so that i can get survey madness and be already so flooded with housemats i will be furnished to the gills by march madness.

And BTW each of those surveys i earned before homestead was during a period when surveys did not provide housing mats. i made the cost benefit choices based on that. i do NOT by any means "deserve" to have them suddenly become "richer" just because i let them sit and accumulate. i earned surveys with no housing mats and that is what i still have.

lets put it another way - if after Monday's patch you found out all surveys going dropped half what they do now - so that having them in our banks we lost out on what they would have been - that they were now worth less than when we earned them in actual mats provided - i bet most likely there would be a hue and cry that "we earned them when they were contained x and we deserve x so grandfather them!"

Well, if that is true, then its inconsistent (put politely) to say we deserve to get more from them just because they sit in our banks until new rules hit - right?

All this talk of surveys and master writs is great - for those of you getting them. Meanwhile, everyone I know who has top tier crafting is getting stiffed on both. I for one have now gone 3 days without seeing a single one of either. So to me and plenty of my friends and guildies it looks as though the drop rates on both of these things is next to zero.

@Zypheran Because this will only help me enjoy the "I made it, I furnished this small home" part.

Won't be stopping my from also buying a furnished large house and the cave. People who enjoy the crown store and purchase from it quite often do actually like to "earn" things in game sometime ya know ;)

Then perhaps they should look at how surveys are issued. I have 9 maxed out crafters that get surveys. I am in the same neighborhood as you in terms of numbers in my bank. Hirelings used to work the same way, then deltia posted a video and they changed it. haha.

The whole point of surveys is that it consolidates your farming. It is reward from crafting writs, which are currently as close to end game crafting that we have. I am not pretending that it is some glorious end game system, but it is end game for crafting. Sure you can do it along the way before you are maxed, but I am also fairly certain that a level 10 crafter doesnt get as many survey or gold mat drops as a level 50 crafter. Therefore a true endgame crafter is more likely to be doing surveys.

Also, surveys have every thing to do with end game crafting. This is how a lot of us get our mats. Crafting without mats doesnt exactly work very well. I almost never do open world farming.

If they were worried about hoarders crashing the market on patch day, admittedly a legitimate concern, they should have change the code so only new surveys drop them.
