My question is, are they worth it? So far I haven't used a single treasure map, I simply grumble and throw them in my bank promising "one day" I'll waste the time to hunt them down
I have gotten many, many purple set piece jewelry items from treasure map chests ...

I may be the odd one here, but I actually find "Simple" chests to be the biggest pain. I break more picks on Simples than any of the others.

    @MasterSpatula

The Pins have more friction to slow them down on the Simple chests. On the higher level ones, the Pins move smoother, ironically, making it easier to pick the locks.

Agreed 100%. I would actually say I find Advanced the easiest. The timer on Master kills me if I do break a pick, so I do occasionally fail a Master. But Advanced I almost do on autopilot.

    for OP

when I started doing this from early release, doing lockpicks I cursed every time I got something harder then single locks :)

now this is easy now after I have both practiced and unlocked literately over 5k chests :D

    also a spoiler
there is a skill line: legerdemain where u at rank 20, can force lock open almost every. even master chests

Well if they are that easy for you and others in this game. Then the present system is flawed. The game should at least require you to invest in opening Master chests. I still think they should be tied to skill points. Or possibly a system like Skyrim that is not based on coordination and reflexes.

I have SO many treasure maps stored away in the bank and on alts. Most are left over from ESO launch a few years ago. I think I will wait until they fix that bug with furniture not spawning in chests, then spend a Saturday treasure hunting.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I like how a Rakkhat cheese which results in a skin and a few pieces of untradeable jewellery is fixed in a day, then re-patched a week later, but a game breaking bug such as this, which completely takes away a huge aspect of hunting for blueprints is still on live server. Or the deadly strike writs. Seriously guys? These things need fixing and more attention than an exploit to get a skin.

yes....They are not easy for everyone.
I mostly have to do an extra try on the tumblers who don't go all the way down, most times master chests go in one try.
It fails if many tumblers are far down, expert only fails if many are almost to the bottom.
Some thief guild points and lots of lock picks is another option.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

An exploit leading to people getting what is largely considered best in slot gear, and a skin indicating you've completed some of the hardest content in the game is game breaking and trivializing content that is directly related to the improvement of a character.

blue prints and writ vouchers, while very fun, is not game breaking.

Sure, but people think it's great fun to throw around the term "game-breaking" in all kinds of situations where it doesn't even remotely apply... :p

Seriously though, to anyone planning on calling a bug game-breaking you need to ask yourself this: does this bug mean that the game is actually unplayable? If the answer is an unequivocal yes, then you can call the bug game-breaking. If the answer is anything else (including "well, it doesn't stop me from doing most things, but it stops me from doing X"), then it's not game-breaking. Calling something game-breaking when it's nothing more than an inconvenience just makes people look like Chicken Littles, or the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

@ OP - the pins on the locks only have three positions; 1/3rd of the way down, 2/3rd's of the way down, and all the way down. Remember that and your days of breaking lockpicks will virtually be over!

Seems like it should just be an unlocked chest if you go to all the trouble of finding it.

What trouble? Watching a 30 second video?

And we wonder why the game is headed towards the direction it's in.

Get ya, but don't fully agree. exploits that lead to improvement are game breaking IMO. I don't consider broken to be necessarily unplayable. Varying degrees.

But either way, to think an issue with blueprints or crafting writs is more important than fixing a trial exploit that leads to character progression and better gear, in terms of fix priority, is asinine.

For a little extra challenge, I recommend closing your eyes and picking the locks by sound alone. It adds a little spice to the adventure..... and reminds me of playing TES:IV every time.

That's a very good observation, I never felt it, even though I have unlocked a ton of chests, thanks for sharing.
