Whats the point of the treasure maps leading to master chests.

Seems like it should just be an unlocked chest if you go to all the trouble of finding it.

    I have not seen this happen.

    However, I'm not sure it's a problem since lockpicking is easy and ZOS seem to have genuinely improved the quality of the contents of Master chests. A couple of years ago, they were very rarely better than Simples. Now, they're much better.

    Um, treasure maps don't lead to master chests. They lead to buried chests that you dig up and open without picking a lock.

    Also, if you level your Legerdemain skills, you don't even need to pick locks, you just FORCE them.

    Well then there is a master chest behind a statue ..by the water..near a tower. Just like on the Glenumbra treasure map. I am fairly new to the game however and if that is the case I am glad to hear it. Thats the way it should be.

    Treasure maps don't do that, actually! They lead to little mounds of dirt that you just activate to dig up, and out pops an unlocked chest that only you can see. If you found a master chest, it's just a complete coincidence and super lucky!! I hope you unlocked it and got the juicy prizes, then dug up the actual treasure map chest. If not, go back! The treasure map isn't used up until you dig open the actual treasure map chest!

    Look for a mound of dirt. Depending on the location sometimes they stick out like a sore thumb and sometimes they're super hard to see. The master chest that you found at the location had to just be a coincidence.

    Why would it be unlocked? Only smugglers on the skooma would be so silly.

    Practice, it doesn't help people are breathing down you neck to unlock it if not try to unlock it before you.

    Be a good? thief. Thieves Guild has a passive.
    I'm not sure how successful forcing locks is as I've never had trouble with locks, many second attempts at masters though.

    it was beta so it's fuzzy but I'm pretty sure i ran out of lockpicks trying to get this open lol. and Doshia....... that took a battleplan and coordinated tactics to beat her back in the day.

    No XP from forcing a locked chest though ...

    The first character i ever leveled to VR ranks did the final level up by opening a locked chest in Coldharbour.

    I may be the odd one here, but I actually find "Simple" chests to be the biggest pain. I break more picks on Simples than any of the others.

    What?? Complaining about opening chests lock?? Woww ... There a skill on the ledgermain that bypasses the lockpicking mini game...

    My problem with treasure maps is that after walking all that distance just got crappy items... And no furniture items due to a current bug... I usually delete treasure maps.... Just not worth the trouble for 78 gold pieces and a random blue crappy item with increase experience trait

    This opens a good discussion, though. Why are treasure maps so valueless? You'd think they would give a shot at something rare. Even regular chests need some love.

    My question is, are they worth it? So far I haven't used a single treasure map, I simply grumble and throw them in my bank promising "one day" I'll waste the time to hunt them down

    @Purrmaid

    Yes. Especially if you have the Treasure Hunter Passive, but even that is not needed. Every Treasure Chest drops a Dropped Set Item, and that can be Jewelry or Weapons or anything else. In fact, in Coldharbor or the Starter Islands, it is the only way to get Jewelry for those Sets. There is also some decent gear to decon and other loot.

    Other than one chest I can think of, they are all in really easy places to get to. One in Bangkori is right under a pesky World Boss. So, get the Passive and go Treasure Hunting. Nice activity if you log in and have no immediate goals.

    One thing, on the PC there is an add on that puts a Red X on the map where the Chest is. On the consoles, well, use a website to show you were they are.

    @MasterSpatula

    The Pins have more friction to slow them down on the Simple chests. On the higher level ones, the Pins move smoother, ironically, making it easier to pick the locks.
