Nope, without access to the DLC you can't complete this writ.Joy_Division wrote: »I play a character was has no interest in being a murdering assassin so I did not purchase the DLC dedicated to being a murdering assassin.
My crafter is now asked to make a Varen's Legacy Mace, a set that is only accessible if you purchased the DLC dedicated to being a murderous assassin. Aside from buying content I have no interest in playing or buying a subscription, is there any way my non-murdering and law abiding character can complete this writ?

Did you already open the writ? If so, then really your only non-DLC option is to get a friend to do the attuned crafting station thing. I'm not 100% sure that will actually let you craft it if you don't have access to the DLC, but it would probably work.Joy_Division wrote: »nordmarian wrote: »it is possible that someone else craft ur gear?
Unfortuantely no.
I will support just about anything Elder Scrolls games release, but I just have no interest in playing an assassin (and never did), I do not appreciate that to be a master crafter I have to purchase content dedicated to being an assassin.

To be honest, I really don't like the text & option you get when you first take the sealed writ out of the container. It doesn't tell you what the requirements are for the writ, it's basically just "do you want to start this writ?" and the default answer is "yes".Joy_Division wrote: »Did you already open the writ? Yes. I don't recall seeing on the text that I had to buy the DLC catering to being a murderer on it.

Really, the smart thing for anyone is to not start the writ right when they get it, but rather to put it in your inventory unopened and decide if you want to do the writ on that character, transfer it to another character, or trade/sell it to someone else. That being the case, that should be the default when you take the writ out. I consider myself lucky that I haven't yet accidentally started a master writ on a character who I either don't want to do it on, or who can't do it. I'm sure that a day will come when I accidentally pick the wrong dialogue option there and start a writ that I didn't want to start.
Really? Awesome. I've been planning on getting some attuned crafting stations for DLC sets (especially IC ones, because it can be a real pain to get to the stations for them even if you have access to the DLC) so that friends and guildies who don't have access to the DLC can use them, but I didn't know for sure if it would work. And I can't buy any attuned stations yet anyway lol...It's been verified that you can use an attuned crafting station for a DLC set even if you don't own the DLC.

Quite possibly. I've never been entirely clear on what unlocks this quest - I just know that you can't do it until after you first do the other Gold Coast quest that involves Naryu, and you can't seem to do the other Gold Coast quest that involves Naryu until you've reached a certain point in the DB main quests, but I've never been clear on exactly what that point is... For all of my characters who have done the quest, at some point I just happened to notice Naryu's quest giver markers7732425ub17_ESO wrote: »Actually, one of the Gold Coast side quests is one of my favorite quests in the game: The Sweetroll Killer! You mean you don't unlock this quest until you've pretty much completed every DB mainline quest

Yes, it is. It's a role-playing game. The character isn't "you" or your avatar. You can play a role that doesn't reflect the character at the keyboard, unless of course your imagination is crippled.Joy_Division wrote: »Is it so strange that some people don't want to play a character that specializes in murder or play content in which the better and more you murder people, the higher rewards, achievement, stuff you get?
Nah, I'm with you on this. Well, kind of. I'm not with you in the sense that I enjoyed the DB content and I'm happy to buy it. I'm with you in the sense that I believe that you should let your dollars do the talking and not spend anything on something that you're not interested in. If DB-style content doesn't appeal to you, don't buy the DLC. Sure, there's other stuff included that you don't have to do the DB story to enjoy, but realistically if you're not doing the DB stuff, there's not enough other stuff for it to be worth buying anyway, and that's not even considering the "put your money where your mouth is" aspect of it.Joy_Division wrote: »Oreyn_Bearclaw wrote: »Also, just gonna say it...

If I had enough disposable income I would be.
The issue with just buying the DLC for the sake on the non DB quests, aside from the small amount that would be, is that if I buy the DLC, I am commicating to ZoS and other market trackers that assassin-oriented content is what I am looking for Elder Scrolls Online content.
People talk about putting your money where your mouth is, but in this case I am apparently supposed to ignore such advice and frivolously spend my limited bank account to begin with all for the sake of completing a Crafting Writ. I know I could just do it, but I am thinking a lot of people in my situation wouldn't just bite the bullet and do so.
The only way you would have seen the writ requirements before the dialogue asking if you want to accept it is if you had noticed it was in your writ rewards urn prior to looting it, and hovered over it there prior to looting it. Like I said above, I don't think it's a good system, and I'm sure it's going to lead to people (including myself) starting master writ quests that they didn't want to start.Joy_Division wrote: »When I received the writ, I do not remember seeing I would have to craft the Varen's Legacy set. I have been waiting ever since the patch drop for any blacksmith, clothier, or woodworking writ because I am a crafter and want to do this content. This was the first I got from either or those. So I opened it. I dont have any interest in making in game gold from this stuff. I am interested in furnishing my own house. Apparently I need to buy assassin oriented content to do so.
From my understanding they are correct that once a station is attuned it is attuned permanently, and if you want to have one attuned to a different set you have to get another attunable station.Joy_Division wrote: »About the Attune stations:
People are telling me in game this wont work because once the station is attuned, it is permanent. Is this true? It sounds hard to believe - there are over 20 crafted sets, why would it only be bound to one forever. What if you made a new character? What if new crafted sets come out? What is Zos changes the ones that are out? Hard to believe such that I have half of a mind people are just saying this because they dont want to go through the trouble of helping me out. Which is fine since I'm a virtual stranger and all, but it just makes me more frustrated with this patch, which has been filled with a whole lot of disappointment.
