Master Crafting Writ for a DLC I dont have (or want)

I play a character was has no interest in being a murdering assassin so I did not purchase the DLC dedicated to being a murdering assassin.

My crafter is now asked to make a Varen's Legacy Mace, a set that is only accessible if you purchased the DLC dedicated to being a murderous assassin. Aside from buying content I have no interest in playing or buying a subscription, is there any way my non-murdering and law abiding character can complete this writ?

Edit:
  • Can't sell the wirt (it is opened)
  • Someone else made me the item, it is not giving me credit for having it
  • Will an attunable blackmsith station work?

Nope, without access to the DLC you can't complete this writ.

Unless... Possibly if a friend gets an attunable crafting station for his/her home and attunes it to that set, and you're on the guest list for the home. You could probably craft it that way.

Otherwise you can't do it, and you should sell the writ to someone who can. Writs are selling for good money.

If you've already opened the writ then your only option is to find someone with a Varen's Legacy blacksmithing station in their house that you can use.

You dont have to join the Dark Brotherhood in order to access the crafting stations on the Gold Coast. In fact, there's a ton of content avalible in the DLC that can be done without ever touching the guild questline. Skyshards, dungeons, dailies and lots of minor quests.

Actually, one of the Gold Coast side quests is one of my favorite quests in the game: The Sweetroll Killer! But even though that quest isn't a DB quest, I'm pretty sure you can't unlock it without first doing some DB quests.

    Unfortuantely no.

I will support just about anything Elder Scrolls games release, but I just have no interest in playing an assassin (and never did), I do not appreciate that to be a master crafter I have to purchase content dedicated to being an assassin.

Did you already open the writ? If so, then really your only non-DLC option is to get a friend to do the attuned crafting station thing. I'm not 100% sure that will actually let you craft it if you don't have access to the DLC, but it would probably work.

To be honest, I really don't like the text & option you get when you first take the sealed writ out of the container. It doesn't tell you what the requirements are for the writ, it's basically just "do you want to start this writ?" and the default answer is "yes".

Really, the smart thing for anyone is to not start the writ right when they get it, but rather to put it in your inventory unopened and decide if you want to do the writ on that character, transfer it to another character, or trade/sell it to someone else. That being the case, that should be the default when you take the writ out. I consider myself lucky that I haven't yet accidentally started a master writ on a character who I either don't want to do it on, or who can't do it. I'm sure that a day will come when I accidentally pick the wrong dialogue option there and start a writ that I didn't want to start.

Really? Awesome. I've been planning on getting some attuned crafting stations for DLC sets (especially IC ones, because it can be a real pain to get to the stations for them even if you have access to the DLC) so that friends and guildies who don't have access to the DLC can use them, but I didn't know for sure if it would work. And I can't buy any attuned stations yet anyway lol...

That's the entire reason why crafting writs are tradeable. Some people just can't craft everything, because of the DLC restriction.

Sorry Joy, that sucks. I so much agree with this. If I had not been specifically warned about this, I would have accepted as well. That dialogue box adds NOTHING but frustration to this system. It should be removed and the writs should automatically drop into your inventory like everything else. It should also be clear, which it is not, that once completed the vouchers are character (not account) bound. The number of rage tells in my guilds about these issues on patch day was extreme.

Sidebar: I kind of feel you on the dark brotherhood thing. I did not want to complete it on my main (he is a stand up guy), so I did it on an alt. Same with the thieves guild. My issue is that it hurts achievement point totals. An account wide achievement tab would be most welcome. I feel this could be done pretty easily while leaving character achievements as they currently are.

An attuned station for that set should work though that's your only option without access to the DLC. Probably not many around yet.

Well, this is true if you deny the original quest. If you accept it right as you open the coffer, you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Unfortunately, nothing tells you that. The lesson from the player perspective is to never accept the quest. The lesson from ZOS's perspective is just to remove that bit of dialogue and auto drop the writ into your inventory. All that mechanic does is induce rage. It is stupid and should be removed.

One possible solution: Sub for one month. Complete your writ, and maybe even sneak in the non-guild content in Gold Coast.

Bonus, you'll get 1500 Crowns and all your crafting mats will move to the Crafting Bag, opening up a lot of inventory space.

Not ideal, I know. But it solves your problem and gives you a few other good things as well.

Only the DB DLC has one as a murderer. With the others we are saving the world or bringing to light a huge injustice. All good causes.

If I had enough disposable income I would be.

The issue with just buying the DLC for the sake on the non DB quests, aside from the small amount that would be, is that if I buy the DLC, I am commicating to ZoS and other market trackers that assassin-oriented content is what I am looking for Elder Scrolls Online content.

People talk about putting your money where your mouth is, but in this case I am apparently supposed to ignore such advice and frivolously spend my limited bank account to begin with all for the sake of completing a Crafting Writ. I know I could just do it, but I am thinking a lot of people in my situation wouldn't just bite the bullet and do so.

When I received the writ, I do not remember seeing I would have to craft the Varen's Legacy set. I have been waiting ever since the patch drop for any blacksmith, clothier, or woodworking writ because I am a crafter and want to do this content. This was the first I got from either or those. So I opened it. I dont have any interest in making in game gold from this stuff. I am interested in furnishing my own house. Apparently I need to buy assassin oriented content to do so.

    About the Attune stations:

People are telling me in game this wont work because once the station is attuned, it is permanent. Is this true? It sounds hard to believe - there are over 20 crafted sets, why would it only be bound to one forever. What if you made a new character? What if new crafted sets come out? What is Zos changes the ones that are out? Hard to believe such that I have half of a mind people are just saying this because they dont want to go through the trouble of helping me out. Which is fine since I'm a virtual stranger and all, but it just makes me more frustrated with this patch, which has been filled with a whole lot of disappointment.

Quite possibly. I've never been entirely clear on what unlocks this quest - I just know that you can't do it until after you first do the other Gold Coast quest that involves Naryu, and you can't seem to do the other Gold Coast quest that involves Naryu until you've reached a certain point in the DB main quests, but I've never been clear on exactly what that point is... For all of my characters who have done the quest, at some point I just happened to notice Naryu's quest giver marker :p

Yes, it is. It's a role-playing game. The character isn't "you" or your avatar. You can play a role that doesn't reflect the character at the keyboard, unless of course your imagination is crippled.

Nah, I'm with you on this. Well, kind of. I'm not with you in the sense that I enjoyed the DB content and I'm happy to buy it. I'm with you in the sense that I believe that you should let your dollars do the talking and not spend anything on something that you're not interested in. If DB-style content doesn't appeal to you, don't buy the DLC. Sure, there's other stuff included that you don't have to do the DB story to enjoy, but realistically if you're not doing the DB stuff, there's not enough other stuff for it to be worth buying anyway, and that's not even considering the "put your money where your mouth is" aspect of it.

So I opened it. I dont have any interest in making in game gold from this stuff. I am interested in furnishing my own house. Apparently I need to buy assassin oriented content to do so.
The only way you would have seen the writ requirements before the dialogue asking if you want to accept it is if you had noticed it was in your writ rewards urn prior to looting it, and hovered over it there prior to looting it. Like I said above, I don't think it's a good system, and I'm sure it's going to lead to people (including myself) starting master writ quests that they didn't want to start.

From my understanding they are correct that once a station is attuned it is attuned permanently, and if you want to have one attuned to a different set you have to get another attunable station.

There are downsides to being a...well you can't really be a pacifist if you made it out of the wailing prison and did 99% of the other content which requires you to kill large quantities of other folk...in any case, you made the RP decision not to buy the DLC, this is the result of your decision. Sucks but you have to accept the consequences of your choice. As with many of the quest decisions in ESO the decision to take the ethical choice often means you forego personal gain.
