I want to debunk this once and for all...

I've gotten into several heated debates about exactly, or roughly at the very least, how many SKILL points are in the game. People either tell me 386, 368 unless they are typo's and it's one or the other I don't know, 400+ or 450+. I've had people swear to me that you can get more than 400. I have even had people try to give me the other end and say it's exactly 386, or 368. I even remember hearing back when ESO officially launched that it was somewhere in the mid 400's.

Now just to clarify I'm not talking CHAMPION points because some of the people giving me estimates were talking prior to this period. Could it possibly be that when they did away with VR levels they somehow recalculated the skillpoints?

I've tried to do research on the subject but unfortunately alot of information is from 2014 to 2016. I even had a guy at one point several months ago in one of these debates claim he had a character that had something like over 400 skill points and was going to provide a screenshot. Now I don't remember why I was never able to get the screenshot. Sadly alot of the times these debates occur are late at night so it could be the server went down or the guy logged off and either said screw it and went to bed or was *** me. I have always felt there was more than the supposed 368, or 386 or WHATEVER, amount. I want to stand by my conviction that there are in fact more than 400 because this is a personal feeling I have on the matter.

As I had stated above I've had plenty of people on both sides of the coin give examples, there justification for their numbers etc... The simple unfortunate fact for me is, I do not have everything cleared at this time to be positive on a static number. I know things are being added and these numbers also change. I don't want to be wrong and I want to make sure what I'm saying isn't incorrect because I get very passionate about what I feel is correct. And if I am indeed wrong and there are under 400 skill points I will admit I was wrong and move on with my life. But this is bugging the absolute *** out of me and to be quite frank I want to get this researched so if I AM right I CAN back up my argument. Maybe this is petty stupid silly whatever, but again I'm passionate about things I feel are correct and alot of times I do not know how to find the proper information to back up my claims. This is NOT to start a flame war or anything this is purely for my own personal knowledge and to help others who raise questions like this such as new players and the like. I want to be able to be helpful without being incorrect in my claims. Anyway I'm just being redundant at this point.

PS I've seen skill calculators which go above 400 so I don't know how accurate those are. I know some are not updated and I have looked at ones that are closer to the current period of time etc...

Recall seeing 361/386 on the top right hand corner after pressing C. I'd log in and confirm this, if not for maintenance.

The only number that I see that is 386 is SKYSHARDS not skill points. That is why I think people are confused and keep thinking the 368/386 are skill points when in fact it's skyshards. As I said I've had people argue on both spectrum ends. This still doesn't clarify anything either because perhaps there are more skillpoints yet to be discovered? I never finished Cadwell Silver/Gold before Tamriel Unlimited and now that I can freely go anywhere I still haven't gotten around to doing ALL known quests.

Taking into account that when new DLC's Arrive there are skyshards available which mean there are extra skill points available..

. But some of these people swear by the fact that there are *input number here* skillpoints I don't know my head hurts it's after 3am I'm gonna get some sleep X_X. Will continue later.

What I don't quite get is, if there are 300+ shards and about what, 500 skills total including morphs etc..., why is there even a cap at all. I guess this sounds silly to ask but I've always been a bit curious about this. Why have a cap at all when you get so many skills to use anyway o_O. Champion points I can understand obviously, but skill points? Maybe i'm over thinking this but somehow I just feel this is kind of silly.

What most PVE players overlook is the potential 50 skill points for gaining Alliance Ranks. Not, notably, that there's more than a few five-stars-over-their-heads running around.

386 is a weird number to stop at Skyshards as its not a multiple of 3, you would have 2/3 of a point left over.

56 from first group dungeon completion (1 normal + 1 veteran)
50 from PvP
53 from EP/AD/DC, IC and Orsinium quest chains
11 from main quest line
64 from levels
2 for throwing the mage guild quest lady to Sheggorath (optional)
1 from Maelstrom (solo)

What about the template characters on the PTS?

They get updated periodically, in the time I've been playing they've gone from VR14 to VR16 to having champion points and the number of CP has been increased to keep it at the cap. Have they done the same with skill points, or is the number they get just arbitrary?

Another, related question is what's the maximum number of skill points you can use? If you unlocked and morphed every single skill, passive, active and ultimate, on every single skill line a single character can learn how many skill points would it take?

If the number of skill points you can obtain is higher than that does it matter? I know they add new skill lines occasionally but they also add new skyshards and skill quests, so hopefully the two balance out.

Considering the cap, whatever it is, is high enough that it's never going to restrict anyone from making whatever build they want I suspect it's only there as a result of how skill points are obtained. A bit like how some single-player games only have a level cap because eventually you'll run out of places to get XP from.

They can't put an infinite number of quests or skyshards into the game to award skill points and after level 50 you start getting champion points instead.

I suppose they could do something like give you 1 skill point each time you "level up" (gain a champion point) after level 50, or make it so completing a certain number of repeatable quests will award a skill point. But considering part of the reason the cap is unknown is that its extremely difficult to reach it and it doesn't seem to prevent anyone from learning all the skills they want ZOS probably don't consider it worth doing that.

I think we can all agree there are more than 12. Other than that I see no point in counting as Vvanderfell will prob bring the biggest increase in number of potential skillpoints yet.

I currently have 330 Skill points, and I have done every single quest and PvE Content in the game. I am Alliance War rank 12 which would mean I am missing 38 skill points from that right? So shouldn't top skillpoints be 368? Oh and I got 381 Skyshards which would be 127 skill points from skyshards.

Looks to me like 368 (including DLC). I think the people posting 366 forgot the 2 you can (optionally) get at the end of the Mages Guild quest line.

There are 381 Skyshards for 127 skill points (including DLC).

I currently have 331 Skill points, and I have done every single quest and PvE Content in the game. I am missing points because of my Alliance War rank and I got all 381 Skyshards.

back at launch you used to be able to bank that purple book you get from the mages guild line, the one that rewards you with 2 skill pts. Can you still bank it and use on another character? i think some players were doing this to stack skill pts on one character (i didnt think it was possible)

So I will have to assume people claiming to have over 400 is either a mistake or of some other circumstance? I will just take it with a grain of salt unless I see physical proof. So I guess I will openly apologize to anyone I ever accused of lying or giving me BS about having under 400. I swear I felt like there were more than 400. I am wrong. I have to learn to just stay quiet on stuff like this even if I feel positive about something. Not worth making myself look stupid over miniscule things of this nature. I graciously thank everyone for the info on all of this.
