How would you change housing (aimed at those who think it useless)?

I think the danger of putting too much into a house, as far as Services goes, would be empty cities and less socialization. I mean why would you ever go to town if you have NPC Vendors, Crafting Stations, Stables and other services all in your home that you can fast travel to. The cities would become ghost towns other than the Kiosks.

So, in my mind, the only things that should be added to the housing from what is going to be introduced is:

    1. Storage (this is no brainer)
    2. Display (form of storage but things like Mannequins and Placards to mount weapons)
    3. Interactible Furniture (we are getting chairs but perhaps a bed we can sleep in as a way to log out I don't think we need Exp Bonus, we have enough avenues for increasing that)

I am not sure if it's all that good for the social aspect of the game to allow us to install our Assistants in the houses. I know its more convenient, but we might be giving up a vibrant and active city for it.

From my understanding if there going to have such low numbers for ppl actually being able to go to theses instanced areas I can't see it destroying the social side of big city's ... Really what purpose does the house have then other than a waste of crowns or gold if there's nothing to do inside of them .. be nice to get away from the wts / wtb spams that flood the chat now... I think its more about giving ppl a choice to do some things in there house away from the spams and the cp 561 trying to dual with 160-300 cp players because they suck at even matches...otherwise I feel housing with out constant things to do in it will be dead within a month or 2 and would have been a waste of effort to buy/ develop..

What kind of storage? Would you mind if it was purchased daily on a timer like for mounts? Offered in the Cash Shop in a later update? Are you saying you only want display storage to show off armor/weapons like we had in Skyrim? How much storage are you asking for? Are you asking to get a craft bag? Or do you just want dressers, cabinets, and closets to have five extra inventory spaces? TALK IN A WAY THAT MAKES SENSE TO A GAME DEV. Elaborate and stop spitting out tiny little child like sentences. You have all taken up a chant, "Give us storage, give us storage..." but you don't really care if you get it because you are not being specific enough to look like you care. It looks like you just want to participate in a mob mentality. So if the devs give you the wrong kind of storage you can yell at them some more. Seriously you don't want to work with ZOS you just want yell at someone.

    angry-mob-o.gif

Ignoring for the moment the fact that I have given specific examples for how I imagine it would work I'd say that's entirely up to ZOS to decide.

I would say people aren't "spitting out tiny little child like sentences" - they're making a broad statement about a general feature they would like to see and leaving the details up to the professionals, as is sensible.

Otherwise you run the risk of people saying (for example) "we want mannequins to put armour sets on" and someone at ZOS going "Oh wow, that's going to be a huge amount of work, I'm not sure that's possible with the way the game is currently set up but maybe if we can modify the back-end we can get it to work...if only they'd asked for a chest to store stuff in, that I could definitely do and it'd be a relatively quick project". When in fact the person asking would be happy with a chest because their top priority is just to have somewhere to keep armour they want to keep but don't want mixed in with everything else in their bank. They're asking for a mannequin because that's how their last game did it and now they're in the habit of using 'mannequin' as short-hand for 'armour storage' (like all the people who say they want an 'auction house' when what they want is a global trade system, with our without the capacity to sell by auction).

Obviously that's a hypothetical example, but the same is true of any method we could request. What seems simple to a player may be horribly complicated to actually build. So if we keep the request broad so it encompasses all the options it leaves it open for ZOS to choose the one/s they think are best for their game.

It would be nice to be able to have your character sleep in the bed and be able to leave him there when I log out. Being able to use the wardrobes for outfits/costumes and the trunks for jewelry would be great. I did buy a house and I knew I wasn't going to be able to do more than decorate it, sit here and there, etc but I bought it with the thought that eventually it will be more than cosmetic. I really hope that more interactive options are down the road but I've been playing this game since beta so you think I'd know better.

I like how you guys plan this stuff for housing how they should be Daily's for housing quest and other opportunities for housing like all the crafting skill line should be into housing, and down to inventory space need to be increase. Because even though I do half PVP and PVE I like the concepts that you guys bring to the table for housing.

I really wanted housing to be like it was in Oblivion or somewhat similar. The tower, underground lair etc all had their uses, alchemy garden/practice lockpicking chests to name a few and of course storage.

Housing in ESO just feels underwhelming at the moment, but hopefully more functionality will be added in the future.

    3. Guild functionality for large houses such as instanced rooms for members.

I think housing is incredibly good at the concept and the majority of the implementation level. Really the only thing I don't like about it is how inaccessible the furniture crafting system is. If you want to make one fancy Altmer cup you have to find the recipe and then get a boatload of incredibly rare materials for it. Finding the recipe won't be a huge problem in the long run beyond a possibly substantial gold sink, but if you're doing this all on a master crafter (and you SHOULD be) it's not really any worse than the provisioning recipe or motif grind. The materials, though.... bad times. 11 Regulus, 7 Alchemical Resin, 8 Decorative Wax, 15 Adamantite, and 3 Grain Solvent.

To compare, let's look at a fancy Altmer table. 11 Mundane Rune, 7 Regulus, 8 Heartwood, 15 Adamantite, 3 Rekuta. Slightly different materials but all at the same cost. Sooo heaven forbid you want to make four place settings for your table, you will need to spend four times the materials to make the cups alone as you did for the table you put it on. It's bonkers!

Even this wouldn't be quite so bad, except you don't get furniture crafting materials from every node. You get them from about every ten nodes. This is why people who like the update are still pretty upset in the implementation.

As others have stated storage, but I would be willing to compromise a little bit and ask for Mannequins so I can display my old, no longer useful gold armor in my home and at least be able to take those ones out of my bank or off an alt character.

I would change housing to be more like other games' housing:
    1) add storage, of course. Every other game in the last 15 years has storage in housing.
    2) add display cases, weapon racks, armor wardrobes and display mannequins
    3) allow exterior decorating that others can see
    4) add some form of gardening
    5) add minor buffs, like a sleeping bonus, eating bonus, when done in the house

ESO's housing as it is has almost no connection to the game, and could just as easily be done as a stand-alone housing decorator sim.

I don't think housing is useless, but here's what I would like to see:

    - Guild bank access
    - Guild store access
    - Repair function
    - Stablemaster
    - Item limit for furnishings and collectibles at least doubled for all houses.

If you want to know how housing should be done just log onto a free server of the mother of all MMOs Ultima Online....

It has imo the best housing system ever implemented and unequaled to this day and the game is 20 odd years old. With today's current technology why housing cant be better than a 20 year old game is beyond me.

I may pick up housing if it ever becomes useful, as it is it is just disappointing 'fluff' that will be a 5 minute wonder.

Go check out Ultima Online housing to see what I mean, try a free shard and wander about the wilds and see peoples individual creations that are viewable to all that pass.

They at the very least need a single storage chest per house with 20-30 inventory slots in it, kind of like a bank. That way you can store your unused household furnishings in it, and a few other assorted things.

I think housing needs treasure storage.. I need to explain this because its not just storage I want.

Every quest we get done gives us XP, weapons, armor, and treasure. Why not be able to put those treasures on the wall and in display cases? EQ did this didn't they? We should get bonuses for what we display. Each trophy does something and we can only have one or two displays at a time. Kinda like skill points.

Just in case this wasn't mentioned enough times here is a short list of what needs to be added for houses to actually be useful , other than for RP purposes :

    1) Storage
    2) Full access to personal and guild bank
    3) Notice board that can provide you with the daily quests from Undaunted ( to be specific here , i am referring to pledges ) , Mages , Fighters guilds dailies
    4) Same as number 3 , but for the daily crafting writs .

Storage for one, some mention weapons/armor mannequins which I think is a huge huge HUGE must.

I would love to see bulletin boards for writs or something, maybe far fetched but would be cool X-D

Every item able to interactable. Have cups on the table with interchangable liquid look. No real utilitarian purpose but I love stuff like that personally. Have plates of food and you can designate what food look is there.

THE ABILITY TO SIT IN EVERY KNOWN STOOL/CHAIR/COUCH/uh pillow? This is a huge peeve of mine. There are like 30% of the chairs that I fiddled with on the test server, well that I could with the fully furnished houses so the limitation on the actual chairs were limited to the ones given by the furnish option >.>. But to ZoS I question, why are we unable to use specific things? Take Skyrim and Winterhold That long ass table in the main dining area in front of Ulfric Stormcloak, has a nice animation specifically TAILORED for it.

The ability to get more NPC's to randomly wander around your house, maybe for the mansions you can get NPC butlers or something. I like how you can add the assistants but there are only 3 that I know of that you can actually put there. I don't know why they couldn't add NPC's like faction guards for aestetics. Hey if you are going to go merely aestetic why not go ALL OUT :P.

At the moment I can't think of anything else, this was just thought up in about 10 minutes. If I was to get some sleep and really think on it I'm sure I could pump out more interesting, albeit weird, ideas.

EDIT: Just thought of something someone else kind of mentioned but I want to further the idea. Right now you have a VERY limited number of colletible NPC elements, like 2 for the rooms etc... I want to be able to put more of my pets down in a house. But lets go a step further. Instead of having pets just sit still like they are animatronic stuffed puff balls >.> lets face it thats what they are right now, why not have them wander around. NPC's characters could even be made to interact with stuff inside the house, IE sit at tables or on chairs eat food etc.. I know this is probably asking for WAY more than they can handle but a man can dream >.>...

STORAGE! Period. This is THE only feature that will make houses appeal. And I don't mean a teeny tiny 100 slots, I mean you should be able to buy a wardrobe, dresser, trunk that you can store items in. If I buy a house furnished then I want to USE the furnishing.
