    • Save your treasure maps. It's bugged on PC currently but they are supposed to drop paintings for housing.
    • Farm lots and lots of gold.
    • If you plan to do master writs go through and make sure your crafters have as many crafting achievements as possible.
    • Keep farming gold.
    • If you will be crafting furniture find a good material farming route, you'll need it in homestead.
    • Take some time and farm a lot of gold.
    • After all of that, farm more gold.

On a practical note, what is the size of the update so I can deliberate over what to delete off my ps4 so there is enough space. (Yeah I know I'm going to have to upgrade the memory for Morrowind :| )

But mainly shall be going for gold......

Wait for ZOS to fix housing before you even begin to participate.

You currently cannot furnish a house within a reasonable amount of time without spending enormous amounts of gold or real life money.

By reasonable amount of time I mean the furniture plans are all RNG based, so they're forcing you to spend huge amounts of gold or real life money to get them.

Farm lots of Style mats - you need loads of these.

Realise the drop rate for the new crafting mats for furniture is abysmally low.

Realise that the drop rate for patterns/designs etc is even lower.

Understand that everything you can buy with in game gold or Crowns is overpriced, in some cased by a factor of 20 (stack of 4 logs for 100g I am looking at you).

Go play a ten year old game like LOTRO and see that they were doing it better then than ZeniMax are doing it now.

    Prepare yourself to be disappointed.

Seeing everyone talk about stacking gold lol i knew it.

Made a thread a while back about crowns vs gold for housing.

Instead of spendings 100,000s of gold on houses or even millions, save all of that for decoration and buy the house with crowns.

20-25 £ or $ to save yourself countless hours of gold grinding? and get yourself the house itself too?

    Take my money ZOS

and farm more gold  , you would need a lot, if you want at least the medium size house and then for furniture you need also gold, or lots of grinding for the new materials

also max up your crafting skills, if you want to craft items for housing

    He can't do that yet.

He's on console, the furniture crafting mats do not exist on console until the homestead patch goes live.

    @Hallothiel

I'm pretty sure I saw on the patch notes (or natch potes) that it will be around 3.32GB. The houses are already in the landscape, just inaccessible at the moment, so it's a fairly small update all things considered.

I spent months getting ready, saving gold and trying to get all my achievement with the master crafter. It seems like it was all useless lol, the master writ drop rate is terrible, and the grind for materials a nightmare.
My advice is don't think about housing much, unless you are going to do what Zenimax wants, that is buying all in the Crowns store.

Farm up millions/tens of millions of gold.

Settle in to either spend the next 2d12+1 months farming for furniture recipes, most of which will be random garbage with enormously lofty material costs to actually craft, as well as the frequent requirement of multiple crafting skills, or...

...shell out a couple hundred bucks in the crown shop to direct purchase decorations.

Don't bother with the housing vendors that sell things for gold stationed in faction cities. They sell almost nothing worth looking at. Cicero in Coldharbor allegedy has better stuff, but I haven't seen his vendor list yet.

If you have some cash do the following
    1. Wait for a Crown Sale
    2. Stock up on Crowns
    3. Buy the Manor's (the biggest of the housing options), all three
    4. Rub other player's noses in the fact that you have the Manor related Titles and Achievements.
    5. Enjoy!

Farm gold. There are zero things more important than getting gold, as everything in the patch requires heaps of gold. You can't prefarm the new furniture crafting materials or plans, so you need gold to buy them. You need gold to buy achievement furnishings. You need gold to buy houses. You need gold to buy new gear like the new (old) Tel Var sets. Okay those you actually can buy with Tel Var as well, but it's probably easier to just buy them with gold. You need gold to buy gold. You need gold.

Don't buy motifs right now as it's a waste of gold and won't increase your chances of getting a master writ enough to matter. Don't buy nirnhoned trait for research as it doesn't impact enough to matter. Keep doing your research since it's basically free, but more importantly GET GOLD.
