One of the most interesting enigmas and fascinations for me in this universe of Elder Scrolls is the force of CHIM, the duality between Anu and Padomay, the fall of Lorkhan as well as all this in relation to Tiber Septim/Talos and Vivec.

You can clearly see how this permeates the early TES universe, with especially the Kirkbride writings such as 36 Lessons of Vivec, which has a clear parallel to Zen buddhism, eastern thinking and a deep spiritualism and esoterisism not often found in modern fantasy As a more 'mature' fantasy admirer myself, this immediately attracted me, while at the same time the whole semi-cultic following of MK and his thoughts, and the whole discussion of canon/non canon repelled me somewhat.

Towards Skyrim you do see a, if not dumbing down, then at least a trivialization and casualization of the TES universe, with less and less emphasis on the mythos, the spiritual dimension, and more and more emphasis on trivialities that are stock features of every mainstream and generic fantasy setting nowadays.

The return to Morrowind, both the land and the game, is a unique opportunity for TES to return to its spiritual and esoteric roots. We will meet Vivec, the only mortal being in the TES universe, other than Septim/Talos, to reputedly having achieved CHIM/enlightenment, and the Dunmer themselves are steeped in esoteric background and history, from their transformation from Chimer, the interference of several Daedric princes in their history (Azura, Boethiah), their ancestor worship, Daedric worship, current Tribunal worship and the prophecies of the Nerevarine.

I do hope, and perhaps somewhat in vain, that ZOS and TES will keep faithful to the roots of Morrowind, both the game and the land, and not simply present us with a multitude of dumbed down or casualized fetch quests and save-the-world quests. You have perhaps one of the richest and deepest vessels of esoteric lore and spirituality to draw upon, outside old and established settings such as The Forgotten Realms or Tolkien. Use it for what it's worth, let us sit down and have meaningful and philosophical conversation with Vivec, perhaps the most enlightened and spiritual living being in the entire TES universe at this timeline, let us contemplate what is divinity, with these living gods walking the lands, let us be able to read the 36 Lessons of Vivec on our own, and ponder their hidden meaning.

World bosses, item sets, trials and exp is all nice and good, but for the love of Talos, don't forget your own heritage as a TES game, especially now that you return to the wellspring of it all with Morrowind =)
